Day 39: Intercom, Evening

The Head Doctor seemed a little rushed as he spoke on the intercom, not taking as much pleasure as he usually did in describing the delicious food that would soon be served.

"Hello, everyone! Tonight is turkey night, which means turkey breast in a great turkey gravy with some nice turkey sides: peas, herb potatoes, a small garden salad, and for dessert, a slice of pumpkin pie. We of course have vegetarian substitutes available, as well as our usual assortment of drinks.

"...I believe that's it! I'll talk to you soon!"

The intercom clicked off abruptly.

"I'd appreciate it." The sentiment was sincere, despite having to fight down the urge to question. If the teen wanted to help, who was Nigredo to refuse? One misunderstand was simply not enough to warrant suspicion.

He managed a long exhale, sounding just about as patient as the other looked. "Oh," he said after a moment. "I'm Nigredo." The boy figured introductions would settle the last of his doubts.

Given how long they've been in close proximity with each other, it was somewhat surprising that it took this long to exchange introductions. Sync had been flipping through his notebook when Nigredo finally introduced himself, looking up with an intrigued expression.

"Nigredo. That's an interesting name." From what he could make out there was nothing that connected it to Ancient Ispanian, but that was to be expected. Had he kept to himself more he would've lied about his name, but since Joshua's room was nearby the chances of him popping up where the kid could overhear was high. And so he closed his notebook and nodded.

"Sync. It's nice to meet you."
