Day 39: Intercom, Evening
The Head Doctor seemed a little rushed as he spoke on the intercom, not taking as much pleasure as he usually did in describing the delicious food that would soon be served.
"Hello, everyone! Tonight is turkey night, which means turkey breast in a great turkey gravy with some nice turkey sides: peas, herb potatoes, a small garden salad, and for dessert, a slice of pumpkin pie. We of course have vegetarian substitutes available, as well as our usual assortment of drinks.
"...I believe that's it! I'll talk to you soon!"
The intercom clicked off abruptly.

Re: M14
This was the first incident he'd heard where someone hadn't been successfully drugged, though, and that immediately caught his interest. Instinct demand that he approach this skeptically - 'blow the doors open' sounded like something far beyond anything anyone here was capable of - but he couldn't hold back the curiosity as he asked, "And what do you remember?"
Re: M14
"But the point is," he continued, sticking his fork in the turkey breast for emphasis, "there were two flights of stairs, which means whatever they did to me happened on at least the third floor. And unless some of the patients have been keeping a huge secret from the rest of us, nobody has been up there yet." That was a big "unless" - given some of the bulletin board chatter he'd seen, there were still many prisoners here who were not to be trusted. But nobody had even been talking about the third floor until today... which, to Tanaka's mind, was proof enough that they had figured out what Landel wanted to keep them from knowing.
Re: M14
"I believe the reason nobody has been up there yet is because we have yet to find the flight of stairs that leads to the third floor," he said, unable to keep the note of dryness from entering his voice. "Still, I wish you luck in your endeavor. Exactly what are you planning on doing?"
Re: M14
"So far, nearly all the locks on the second floor have been forced or picked, with no stairwell in sight. The only exceptions are these." He pointed, in succession, to the appropriate doors, ending on the set of three doors off the South Hall. "These ones are the most interesting of the group; they're close to the known stairwells, and they seal off a large section of the floor. Since the usual ways of getting past locked doors don't seem to work on them, however, Admiral... Admiral ZEX and I" - it still felt strange to talk of the VUX as a collaborator, enough to make him stumble a bit - "have been planning another line of attack: explosives, currently being manufactured by Captain Usopp. I'll be checking on his progress tonight, before going to get more supplies and possibly scouting the three unopenable doors myself. And once Usopp finishes making some charges... BANG!" He pounded on the table, and his grin somehow spread even wider. They were finally getting closer to the plan he'd been suggesting ever since he arrived - and with ZEX's (ugh) circle of friends, it'd be no time at all until they were at Landel's throat.
Hopefully. If everything went well.
Re: M14
Javert was still inclined to be doubtful about the success of the plan, but perhaps too many nights here had begun to take their toll on him. And what was the use of discouraging anyone else when they had already gotten this far?
He smiled slightly, nodding at the map. "And you do have a point; I don't think anyone has managed to open those doors so far. Well, best of luck to you tonight."
