Day 39: Intercom, Evening

The Head Doctor seemed a little rushed as he spoke on the intercom, not taking as much pleasure as he usually did in describing the delicious food that would soon be served.

"Hello, everyone! Tonight is turkey night, which means turkey breast in a great turkey gravy with some nice turkey sides: peas, herb potatoes, a small garden salad, and for dessert, a slice of pumpkin pie. We of course have vegetarian substitutes available, as well as our usual assortment of drinks.

"...I believe that's it! I'll talk to you soon!"

The intercom clicked off abruptly.

The young mage smiled a bit, shaking his head. "You need your strength too. Besides, I'm small. It doesn't take much." He leaned forward, holding out his tray. "Here, let me see your plate." He could scoop half of his dinner onto the other boy's plate easily.

And anyway, he'd at least still have the pie!

"Well...if you insist..." But Keman was already handing Leon his plate and it looked like his reservations were only for politeness' sake. He had no idea why he was still starving after eating all that, but his metabolism worked differently in this body. Apparently now he was binging.

And Leon was keeping his pie to himself. Good. That was only right.

"There you go!" Leon laughed as he shared, not wanting to find the situation amusing but doing so anyway. He wondered if the other boy had gotten enough to eat for his other meals. Teenagers had those growth spurts, didn't they? Maybe Keman was going through one of those.

That thought led to him wondering if he was ever going to have a growth spurt of his own. What if one day after he reached puberty he'd wake up to find he was taller than Claude?

Right. He doubted that would happen.
