Nightshift 38: M1- M10 Hallway
Dean had taken a nap after dinner, figuring that he might as well grab whatever rest he could before he took off trying to find supplies for a full-blown exorcism. His sleep was fitful, the hunter tossing and turning in the bed, eventually settling for sprawling face down in it with his arms flung around his pillow. When he woke up, Angel was gone. Dean rolled over to sit up, jaw set as he rubbed the sleep from one bleary eye, still breathing heavily. Cold Oak. Fucking Cold Oak. That was over and done with, yet he was still having nightmares about the goddamned place, as if enough wasn't enough that all of that was far behind him now. Reaching up, Dean took in a slightly shaking breath, pinching the bridge of his nose as he told himself he wasn't gonna keep waking up in cold sweats feeling Sam's blood all over him, and, if he was, he would deal with it 'cause it was just a bunch of dreams. Wasn't real anymore. He'd saved Sammy.
When he stood up, he was ready to get on with the night. He'd find his little brother, no matter what, even if he had to get his information from that demon Punk-Ass and not by asking nicely.
Dean was even looking forward to it now.
Heading over to the closet, Dean opened it. His clothes hung there in the closet, all perfectly folded, just like it'd been this morning when he'd left it. Feeling under his jeans, his fingers closed around the bowie knife's hilt. Setting the knife aside, Dean began changing, shrugging out of his simple patient clothes and kicking them aside so he could put on his real clothes. The last things to go on were his boots and jacket, the weight of his pendent settling comfortably against his chest. Dean turned his attention to getting ready for the night. Flashlight? Check. Bowie? Check. And something to carry more than a handful of salt...Dean improvised, removing the pillow case from his pillow and balling it up so he could stuff it in his pocket.
Ready as he was ever gonna be. Aside from being bandaged up still, he was good.
Dean consulted the map he'd copied his first day here from the bulletin board. If he was gonna try to get hold of a rosary, it'd most likely be in Patient Possessions - someone here would've had to be a Bible-thumper who believed in God and all that stuff at some point, right? Salt, he figured the kitchen. As for something to deal with Punk-Ass, he figured he'd need some rope (or duct tape, if they didn't have any rope just lyin' around) and something to draw out the Key of Solomon. Not to mention water; kinda hard to make holy water when you had the holy but not the water. First thing was first though; he still had that meeting with that "R" chick - he thought it was a chick - in F-A hall for that spare flashlight.
The hunter turned on his flashlight and opened M2's door, stepping outside.

"Kurt's right here," he said to the young girl. "He just tells people he's scary looking 'cause he doesn't want them to know he's actually almost as handsome as me. Right Kurt?" The good news was the girl didn't seem at all bothered by Kurt so her friends should be fine too. Which meant Kon could think about his job without worrying if his friend was going to be OK. Plus, seeing someone as young as this girl here just drove home how badly he needed to put a stop to this place. Little kids like that (even though she was technically older than him) shouldn't be locked up in crazy prisons like this.

"That's not true..." Kurt said, looking a little embarrassed at how Kon was explaining the situation. He looked back at Ururu and then at the floor. "It's me, Ururu. This is how I look, normally. Without hiding it."
no subject
"Hi Kurt-san." Ururu went over to him, short enough to be able to look into his face without much problem even though he was looking down. "I was looking for someone scary, so I didn't realize it was you. I'm sorry."
She didn't want him to be mad at her for not recognizing him, after all.

Bounding to his feet he went over to his side of the room to get out his flashlight and get ready to leave himself. "So where are you guys heading anyway?" He didn't know what a kid as young as this girl was would do here at night. It seemed like it would be safer for her to stay in her room but obviously she wasn't doing that. To be honest he wasn't sure what most people did here at night. There was rescuing people being experimented on and apparently getting supplies for weapons and stuff, but apart from that? Not that it would even matter after tonight.

When Kon punched his shoulder he nearly fell over. It took him another moment to realize that Kon was on the other side of the room and therefore wasn't holding his tail.
"It's alright," he said to Ururu, his voice a little hoarse. He slowly leaned down and pulled Ururu into a hug, shaking a little. There weren't any words to describe how relieved he was that she wasn't afraid of him. "Now you know, so it's alright."
no subject
She'd been about to answer the other question when Kurt hugged her. Ururu thought that was more important, and she returned the hug without hesitating. "I'm glad it's okay. Do you feel better, Kurt-san?"
Ururu felt better when she didn't have to worry, so she thought Kurt probably would too.
The little girl turned her head just a bit, glancing at the other boy. "I'm going to take Kurt-san to meet my friends. Then we're probably going to look for people who are missing." Ururu got sad at that, and she tilted her head down some. "Sometimes people vanish her. Lots of people from my world have. My friends and I want to find them."
no subject
He grinned at Kurt again. "See, I told you it'd be fine." It never hurt to remind people when he was right. Not that he ever wasn't right, just sometimes he was a little less right. As opposed to now when he was totally right. "You guys need me for anything?" He was eager to get moving, certain that tonight he'd actually achieve something.

Kon looked just about ready to go, even though he was giving Ururu instructions on his care and keeping, it seemed. Jeez... it was like he was his mother! Only... less evil, more lecherous. "Yeah, you were right. But I still have to meet other people in the dark." He smiled at Ururu, "But if I'm with you, they'll understand, I think."
Kurt stood up, stumbling just a little. It was still difficult to get used to switching from knees to his normal legs, but he figured that would come eventually. "What, the great Superboy is going to come on a mission to find lost people? Instead of just going after the head doctor himself?"
no subject
The idea of not addressing Kurt with an honorific was strange, however. Ururu was a very polite girl, and even the people she loved the most were still called "-san" or "-kun.". Kisuke-san was Kisuke-san, Jinta-kun was Jinta-kun, and that was normal for Ururu.
"It's okay, Kurt-san." Ururu shook her head slightly. "Saying Kurt-san isn't any trouble."
But what Kurt said to the other person got Ururu's attention, and she turned to him in obvious surprise. "You know where the head doctor is?!" Ururu couldn't think of anyone who had known that for sure. "You should come with us, Superboy-san! We can work together and find him, you and Kurt-san and my friends! And we can beat him!"
The little girl was suddenly full of hope and excitement like she hadn't been in days. Maybe they really could win tonight. Then everyone could go home!
no subject
Looking at Kurt he added, "That is, the great and sexy Superboy is going to find the head doctor and make him tell him where the missing people are unless the equally great and almost as sexy Nightcrawler wishes for his amazing presence tonight."
no subject
"She's only twelve!" Kurt spluttered, looking disbelievingly at Kon. "Maybe refrain from all of the innuendo in front of the C-H-I-L-D?"
Kurt was a little torn on this issue. On the one hand, Kon was his friend and if he wasn't worrying about whether or not everyone he knew and cared about was okay, he would be able to face Ururu's friends without having other things on his mind. But on the other... Superboy's personality was a little unruly and unpredictable. Plus he didn't know if it would be rude to bring Kon along when the group was only expecting him.
no subject
"Um, Superboy-san? Are you sure you're invincible here?" Ururu pushed Kurt's hands away from her ears with an ease that defied her small size. It wasn't that she minded the touch at all. She just wanted to be sure. "I used to be really strong before, but when I got here, I was weaker." It made the girl frown a little more to think about.
"You should be really sure before you go, because otherwise something bad could happen." And since Superboy and Kurt were good friends, Ururu didn't want that. "Oh, and I'm not twelve, Kurt-san." Ururu leaned her head back to look up at her friend. "I'm eleven."
The difference was important.
no subject
Crouching down to look the girl in the eye he told her, "Don't worry about me, I got everything under control." That was a lie but hopefully she wouldn't know and also wouldn't notice the almost healed scratches and bites on his arms. They put a pretty major dent in his claim of invulnerability. And while she might have a point, that it wasn't the best idea to go after someone like the head doctor who probably had a heap of traps and stuff keeping him safe, Kon couldn't not try and stop him. Superman hadn't been afraid to attack Engine City with all its weapons and soldiers when he hadn't had any powers at all. Kon couldn't do any less. "The only bad things are gonna happen to the bad guys, promise!"
Looking up at Kurt, Kon tsked as the girl corrected him. "Yeah man, she's eleven. And I'm two," He added, winking at her. "Did we wanna get moving? You don't want to keep your friends waiting right?"
no subject
He had to admit though, reassuring Ururu that he would be okay, even when that probably wasn't true, was pretty cool of him. Kurt had never had lengthy interactions with children, but Kon seemed to know exactly what to say to reassure her. Must have come with all of that self-confidence he had. Maybe he should go get some of that...
"Yeah, I don't want them to think something's happened to you," Kurt said, offering Ururu his two-fingered hand. "Where are we meeting them?"
And if Kon was going with, he really would be forced to leave the sheet behind. The thought made him extremely anxious.
no subject
"Okay." Ururu was willing enough to believe Superboy, but she trusted most people. She still didn't like the idea of him going off on his own though. "Just be careful, okay? And if you want to in the future, you can probably work with my friends and me too. We're the Lost and Found Club. Someone usually puts a note up on the bulletin."
Like Fai-san had that day. Ururu hoped he and the others were okay. Not everyone had said something, and that wasn't good.
Ururu thought Superboy looked kind of big for a two-year-old, but she didn't think he'd lie about something like that. It seemed kind of silly to her. "Okay. Are you coming with us, Superboy-kun?" She was a little worried when she saw Kurt only had two fingers though. Had he gotten into an accident? But in a weird way, Ururu didn't think it looked like his hand was supposed to have more fingers, so she didn't say anything. Instead, she took the offered hand. "They're in F3. I know how to get there, since that's close to where my room is."
no subject
"Yeah, I'll be real careful. You should be more worried about taking care of Kurt. He's a real sensitive guy you know?" He grinned at the girl. It was reassuring to know she had some powers and should be able to take care of herself even if she was pretty young. And she was smart enough to make sure she had someone to watch her back. Kurt would make sure she was OK tonight and once Kon was done she wouldn't have to worry about anything ever again.
"Like I said, I got stuff of my own to do. But, hey, thanks for asking. I was just asking if you wanted some company on the way." It was cute that the kid was worried about him. She was probably used to watching out for others because of her powers.
Kon stepped out into the hall, flicking on his flashlight and looking around. He was tempted to stay and make sure Kurt didn't try wrapping up again but it would be pointless to hide like that if he was going to meet other people. And he was itching to get moving, to find the head doctor and take him out before he could zap Kon back to his room again.
Waving jauntily to the pair he said, "I'll see you around guys." Next stop loony central!

"We should get going too," Kurt said, and he led Ururu out of his room--wondering if it was really okay to leave his sheet behind.
