Nightshift 38: M-A Block Hallway

[From here]

This hallway wasn't exactly bustling with people either. Granted, this nuthouse was probably different from a general town square, but the fact that Tyki happened to be one of the first people out could probably considered as surprising. The Noah of Pleasure was known to be slacking off on occasion, usually needing others (more often than not the Millennium Earl) to urge him to do something. But tonight was a little different. Tonight he was going to take some revenge. And have some proper entertainment while he was at it.

And unless Martin Landel had an annoying sense of logic he was only one door away from his destination.

The hallway seemed far emptier today; Blitzwing wondered why. It didn't really matter though; the only relevance any passing humans could have had to him was if they had dared to get in his way, and in that case he would have treated them as any other obstacle: something to be either ignored or destroyed.

This round, Kristoph was careful to keep his flashlight off and tucked beneath his arm. The darkness should provide a decent cover until the time came for a reveal. No one should hopefully think ill of him for carrying around an unused tool.

Ah, well. If anyone asked, he ran out of batteries.

Outside his room, Klavier actually found nothing particularly unusual. Sweeping the flashlight to his right revealed nothing but a dark hallway. It seemed to be a normal medical wing for the most part. It only lacked light and people, the absence of both giving the area an eerie atmosphere.

He turned to check the number of the room he'd left before proceeding down the hallway. If something should happen, it was best to know where he could backtrack to. Not that a small bedroom sounded like a particularly safe place to be in the given situation either.

Carefully proceeding down the hallway, he scanned the doors he passed, all with similar room numbers. More importantly, however, was the lack of noises he could hear on the other side. Likely, the rooms were empty. Or everyone was keeping quiet.

The hallway opened up, displaying a bathroom up ahead and a large door to the far left. If these were the bedrooms, then that door likely lead to the main part of the building. Anything worth worrying about was most probably out there rather than in here. It would probably also be easy to find someone more informed outside.

Let's see what Herr P.A. had in store...

Junpei wandered into the hallway at the end of the one his room let out into. He paused and looked around, finding other hallways coming into it. So... did he hand around and see what his subconscious decided to throw at him, or did he move on?

Screw the waiting. If he wasn't careful, his own mind would throw something like Koro-chan on mutated steroids at him. Not happening. Junpei noticed a door that looked like it might go somewhere, so that's where he went.

First thing was first--before he met Renamon, he'd have to have his nightly meeting with Naruto. Except things were going to be slightly different this time. Naruto wasn't aware that Jiraiya planned to quickly drag him over to meet Renamon.

He'd probably have to tell the kid that Renamon made him admit to his feelings, though. That'd be a drag. Especially since Naruto would have to tease him the entire way because of it.

Jiraiya actually hoped for the teasing--it would mean that Naruto was feeling more like himself, after what happened the night before. They still had no idea what that device would do to Naruto. He hoped they'd never find out.

Naruto was taking his time getting to the usual spot, still carring his flashlight. He'd found nothing better, since, but hoped to keep an eye out for a better weapon during the night.

He found Jiraiya waiting and gave him a small smile.

Oh, it looked like there were a few other people around! Sora used his flashlight to inspect as he moved along to the door out of the block, but none of them were familiar to him. That wasn't too surprising these days, considering just how many patients there were. And Mr. Landel still wanted to bring more in? It wasn't right.

After taking a few more steps, Sora realized that he really shouldn't be wasting his brand-new batteries, especially since he was just heading to the stairs and he could make that trip with his eyes closed. So as he reached the door and opened it, he clicked his flashlight off and stepped out.

Endrance swept his flashlight's beam from side to side as he stepped down the hallway. There were a few people out and about, but none of their faces were familiar. That didn't bother him as much as it might have bothered someone else in that situation. He had been spending so much time wrapped up in his own world that there were few familiar faces outside of it.

He nodded to himself once and then moved along into the next hall.

Scourge kept his flashlight off as he snuck down the dark corridors. His dark vision was significantly weaker than normal and the lack of infrared or energy signature detection was making him as paranoid as a minibot in a Sharkticon factory, but he could see decently enough and less light meant less visibility.

Kon sauntered confidently into the next hall, glancing around at the other shapes he could see moving about. There were a couple of people waiting around for friends or something but nothing that caught his attention.

He headed straight past the adjoining halls and the door to the bathroom, planning to follow the same route he had last night. Out the door at the end, along the hall and to the stairs. Once he got up there he still had to find the head doctor - assuming there were only two floors to this place - but, seriously how hard could it be? The building wasn't that big and the type of bad guy who made gloating announcements to all his prisoners was also the type to have a huge office or throne room or something. It'd be easy to find.

Then all he had to do was fight his way through the guards and whatever traps there were. Kon was willing to bet the doctor himself had no powers, he was probably just an ordinary guy with some seriously advanced technology. As soon as he got his hands on the guy it'd be all over. He'd just send everyone home, maybe get some addresses for if he ever wound up in the same reality as some of the babes here and grab himself something so he could travel to other worlds and finish his mission. The JLA would be amazed to hear he'd managed to take out a huge prison like this and save the world from a completely different threat all on his own!

It was going to be a piece of cake, he didn't know why he'd been worried by his powers being weird. He was still Superboy and no prison could hold him. Humming a cheerful jingle he remembered from somewhere or other, Kon moved on to the next hall.

As Lev walked down the hallway, he familiarized himself with it. He'd be seeing this area a lot if he was going to repeat this routine of nighttime adventure every day.

He reached the end of the hallway, where it joined with a much larger hallway that led to the rest of the building and turned right, following the map intensely, but making sure not to look too much at it in case something decided to jump out at him.

There were several others in this hallway as well, and Ayumu had to take care to avoid them as she made her silent way toward the corridor that was her destination. As she approached she could hear the sound of voices up ahead, Himura's among them, and frowned slightly. He would have to have the room at the end.

She paused for a moment to slide the pen out of her hair, allowing it to fall free once more, and carefully arranged it so that it at least partially concealed her face. Since she'd kept it pulled back during her time here, hopefully this would be enough to cast doubt on her identity if they managed to catch a glimpse of her passing by in the narrow corridors outside the patient rooms.

With her preparations made as best as she could in this place, with limited time and equipment, she moved on again as quickly and silently as possible.

Kio wouldn't allow himself to break down. He had a mission to do. No matter what Soubi said, he'd made a promise. He would take Ritsuka to patient files and then find the lies they made up for him. He could bare it. He could bare anything.

Carefully avoiding most of the people in the hallway, Kio realised he was on his own. Ritsuka was a child. He shouldn't be here at all. He should be home, eating junk food and playing video games. He should be enjoying himself. Laughing, being happy. Was he happy with Soubi? Kio would have to ask. Sou-chan had never seemed more alive than with Ritsuka.

For a split second he almost went on alone. But he'd promised. He'd take care of Soubi's friend. Because that's what real friends did. With grim determination, he walked on.

No, that Mello person was expecting him, and Teisel might not have appreciated the detour. Besides, his human said he was busy tonight... he might not even be there.

Okita made certain to leave a wide window between Ayumu's movements and his. Long after she'd gone, he slipped into the hallway, taking his time in picking his way to Homura's hall. He could hear Himura's voice and those of his friends, which was going to be...a strain. The last time he saw any of them, he'd put a sword through Himura's shoulder and nearly killed Sanosuke. Perhaps "strain" was a bit of an understatement.

Ticking off the time in his head, he waited about ten minutes before he followed after Ayumu and headed into Homura's hall.

Dark and deserted. Not much of a surprise there. Sam shone his flashlight cautiously down the hallway, half-expecting something to come at them. If spirits were around as part of the set of "monsters" Peter had mentioned, they'd be screwed. What were the chances of there being iron lying in close range?

"You know where the patient you're looking for is?"

There was more he wanted to know, like exactly who this patient was or what Peter was obtaining from them, but Sam figured he'd be able to see for himself. He could only assault someone with so many questions before even the most open person started to get edgy and there were more important things to find out instead.

He wondered, too, if Ruby somehow ended up here as well -- she'd been with him, after all -- but that didn't seem likely. If she had, she would've found him by now. Hell, maybe she'd end up finding him, anyway. It seemed to be a habit of hers, and even now, he couldn't decide if that was a good thing or not.

[identity profile] human-sponge.livejournal.com 2009-01-28 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Peter hadn't expected Sam to just head out of the room like that, and so he'd been forced to quickly hurry after the taller man, clicking his flashlight on while he balanced his shovel on his shoulder. (It occurred to him that his shoulder was probably going to get sore if he kept that up, but there really wasn't an easier way to hold the thing.)

While the connecting hallway was empty when they first got there, other patients were soon bustling around them, moving here and there with their flashlights on and tensions high. It was the norm, but it didn't really help that feeling that a monster might be around the corner. Considering the way he and Nathan had been jumped by that cat while in these halls, Peter didn't even feel safe near the rooms.

"Yeah, it's close," he told Sam, pausing for a moment as he worked out which way they needed to go. He was used to heading toward the door that would take them out, but M3 was actually in the other direction. He moved forward to take the lead, and hoped that Sam would let him keep it from here on out.

He hoped he hadn't missed Mello, since he wanted to thank him in person, but he would just have to wait and see. Reaching the last hallway in the block, Peter took a right.

Daniel was out in ghost form, again. Vlad bit back any commentary on the choice, for now, instead keeping quiet until he was close enough to be easily recognized even in the dark. At least the boy had shown up.
