Day 38: Game Room
She’d never been in the Game Room before.
It didn’t look spectacularly interesting, she had to admit… but it’d be more fun than just hanging out in the Sun Room, right? Yuffie idly thumbed through a deck of cards, walking around the room to examine various bits and pieces. Board games, video games, chess… No really awesome prank material that she could see, but maybe she could rope somebody into a game of poker? That could be fun, but… ah, then again, most of the patients were just like her -- they didn’t have anything really cool that she could swindle out of them. Not until Nightshift, anyway.
Still! She’d keep it in mind. It wasn’t like there was anybody else in the room yet anyway, so any potential swindling would have to wait a little while. What could she do in the meantime, huh? Pick- pocketing a nurse could be fun..! Wait -- no, not when it was quiet like this. She’d have to wait until there was more cover, unless she got distracted. Yuffie hadn’t stolen anything in days, not since that time in Doyleton, with the Kaito kid…
Yuffie smirked. That had been fun.

As it was he was placed next to what was called a 'deck of cards'. For the lack of anything better to do, he began studying the images drawn upon them. He couldn't even begin to comprehend what each of them meant, much less how to play a game with these.
Humans even made 'playing games' rather complicated (not to say that he would resort to something as childish as playing a game. It was what a cub would do, not adults). How tiring...

Her suspicions of what Landel's "Game Room" would have to offer were more or less confirmed upon entry. She saw many decks of those little cards humans loved so much, boxes containing dull-looking "board" games, and a few items she didn't recognize but assumed were equally dull. As if there weren't enough evidence of Landel's delight in foiling her in every way, this room certainly didn't help matters much.
Well screw you too, Martin Landel. We'll see if I can't make my own game here somehow, she thought with a determined smirk.
Improvising a quick idea in her mind, she made her way over to a dark-skinned man holding one of the little decks of cards. Without a word (but certainly with a smile), Ophelia plucked the cards from his hands and sat down across from him. Taking the top card between two fingers, she flicked it out across the room, testing how it would fly. Unfortunately, it didn't go very far, spinning off to the side and landing harmlessly on the floor. No matter. Once she had figured out the best way to throw the cards, hopefully she would soon be sniping cheeks or necks. Maybe if she got good enough, she might even draw blood. It wasn't the best game ever, but at least it was better than any of the lousy human games in the room.
Taking another card, she glanced across the way to the man whose cards she had swiped. "Oh I'm sorry, were you enjoying these?" she asked, flicking her wrist and spinning another card out over his shoulder. It too missed, sailing to the floor behind the man's chair, but it had come close to his face, which was good.

In any case, her actions were rather disrespectful. He was just about to open his mouth to speak up before already biting his words back. He would not lower himself to the level of someone like Mozenrath, who would throw tantrums over such small things. He was no spoiled brat, so he opted for a different approach for this female's obvious lack of respect. She would learn in time, so he merely smiled.
"By all means, don't let me stop you from throwing harmless pieces of paper around the room." he answered, almost kindly. "You never know. Maybe one of the nurses would bleed to death from a small cut."
And with that, Scar leaned forward, feigning interest (almost in a obviously mocking way) as if the peculiar woman and her cards happened to be a excellent source of entertainment.
And maybe she was, more so than the silly pieces of paper she enjoyed throwing around.

"And I suppose you have a better idea about how to pass the time until the night comes, hmm?" she asked sweetly. "Play the silly human games they want us to play? Sit here and stare at the wall? Even if it's just finding ways to cause paper cuts, it's a far more pleasurable endeavour than anything else I see happening in this room."
She experimented with her grip on the card, holding it with her index finger on one corner so that she might get more spin out of her throws. Sure enough, with another flick of her wrist, the card went flying more smoothly than it had before, this time hitting the back of someone's chair. "So what if there isn't a useful purpose? That's what games are for, aren't they? To bring pleasure to those who play them," she explained, lowering her eyelids a bit and chuckling softly as she threw another card out in a random direction.

However, she had mentioned something rather interesting. Though not exactly a rare case, Scar still wished to know more.
"How remarkable that you mention something such as 'human games'. Does that mean that you're not human?" he questioned instead of continuing to discuss the subject of games. Games wasn't something the King happened to be very interested in, after all. Some weaker creatures were interesting to play with - especially mice, but this room simply didn't have any available.

She listened to the question as she readied another card, this time selecting a person at random (a dark-haired girl who was also playing with cards) and then aiming for her specifically to see how accurate she could get. She flicked the card out, hoping to hit the girl on the cheek. The card didn't hit that mark, sadly, but it did snipe nicely on the tip of the girl's ponytail at least, which wasn't bad. "Only half," she answered, turning her gaze back to the scarred man after that. "I appreciate the human brain and the intelligence it offers, but I much prefer the things my other half has to offer." She raised an eyebrow, looking at the man with interest. "And yourself? Are you also one of the several non-humans I've come across so far in this place?"
no subject
"Half human, you say?" Scar echoed, actually genuinely sounding interested. That wasn't something the King had heard of thus far. Either someone had been human or not human, but certainly he hadn't met some sort of hybrid. He figured the other half must be something similar to a human in the anatomic sense. A cub of a lion and another feline worked in theory, but pairing a feline with something far below the food chain (say, a zebra) wouldn't produce any offspring. He supposed it worked the same with humans and any variations thereof.
"So if I were to understand correctly, you think intelligence is tied solely to the human brain?" Unless whatever breed that was the other half of this female was something without any proper intelligence.
"I suppose I would fall into the category of 'placed into a human body' or whatever they have done to place us into this situation." he answered. "I had not been human before arriving here."

She quirked her head to one side with interest when the man finished speaking and confirmed her suspicions. "You could say I'm half demon, in a way, though that's not quite accurate. The full story is a bit complicated, and I'm not particularly in a mood to relate it right now," she answered. Normally she would have been glad to talk all about herself and her role as a warrior, but she had explained the whole damn story a few times already in such a short span of time and thought it only pointless to have to do it every time she met someone new. "But yes, the source of my other half, while possessing some form of intelligence, has a much baser mind. As far as I've seen, no creatures who weren't at least once human at some point can even dream of having proper thoughts."
Ophelia gave the man a clearly interested look. "Although, I would be quite pleased to be proved wrong on that front. It could add some interesting new elements to the playing field as I see it," she said, leaning her head in one hand. "What were you before, if not human?"
no subject
"I see." he answered with a nod. Though Scar happened to be curious about that 'full story', he saw no point in pushing her to tell it. If anything, it would only backfire.
"I suppose our worlds are completely different in that regard." the King commented. "Are you familiar with lions?"
He wondered if this female would also look down on him for being 'a mere animal', like many of these foolish humans (or it's variations) did.

The sudden memory of stories told amongst the higher ranked warriors made her grin again. "I have also heard many stories of one in particular, though he isn't a true lion, I believe. It is said that he resembles a lion with monstrous claws who runs on two legs like a human, and also that his speed and power are rivaled only by the three most powerful evil beings in my world. He is called Rigardo, the Silver-eyed Lion King." Ophelia was almost disappointed that this man's - this lion's - eyes weren't silver. She would have loved to challenge one so feared as the elusive Rigardo was.
