Day 38: Lunch

Soubi was beginning to feel the effects of a busy morning on a tired body. To make things worse, they were serving Tacos and Burritos. He could really do some with something a bit softer today. Blander. But it was hardly his biggest concern right now.

Having picked out his lunch, he looked for Ritsuka. He had to apologise, but these things usually ended up in bigger arguments, so, as could be expected, Soubi was a little nervous. Maybe they wouldn't find each other this shift. Maybe he had a little more time?

Soubi sat alone, being sure that his face was set in the expression that sent the girls at College the other way.

Clark was glad to hear Kvothe was doing okay - well, relatively speaking - and he wasn't angry. He still felt guilty though, because he knew people had put up warnings on the bulletin board about their own encounters and knew he should've trusted them. Clark was snapped out his thoughts when Kvothe asked about Brainiac 5.

Oh jeez...

Clark's smile was sheepish. They weren't exactly friends (he'd just met the guy) but that could change, you never knew. "He's doing much better. But I think he's getting into trouble with other patients on the bulletin board."

At least he thought it was Brainy. All he knew was he needed to talk to him and not just about the attack on him last night...

"What kind of trouble? Is everything okay?" He didn't know the guy that well but he'd seemed nice enough, and it seemed to him that the patients should be trying to work together, not against each other. They had enough working against them.

Clark made a face. "I think he's been talking with the person who attacked him. There might be two people though, the person he was supposed to meet and this attacker who posed as the first person. They're still threatening him though. And I guess they might be threatening me now because I tried to break it up," Clark added, as if it was an afterthought, "but I'm worried he might get into trouble again if he tries to go after this person."

He wasn't too worried about himself, even without his powers working like they were supposed to. Brainy, as far as he could tell, didn't even have any powers. It was far too dangerous to go after this person, even though they'd done terrible things to him. Clark said he'd try to take care of it and he would - but he refused to kill anyone even if he got the impression Brainy wouldn't be against this attacker of his ending up dead.

That sounded really ominous. "Do you know their names? Either of them?" Whether they're different people or the same person playing some nasty trick, it didn't sound like anything he'd want to get more involved in than he already was. "Why would they be attacking him, anyway? You'd think with the way the place itself works against us that it would be better for us to work together instead of trying to do their work for them."

"No, I'm going to ask Brainy about it when I see him," Clark said. He needed to get more information about last night and how Brainy knew these people before they did anything. He shook his head. "I don't know. I'm not sure if they got into a fight or if the person flipped out in Landels and started attacking people."

Or they were already that way. Clark didn't want to jump to assumptions but there it was.

He nodded, poking at his burritos with his fork. "I hope whoever it was doesn't come after him again. Because if we hadn't run into him when we did, he'd probably be dead by now."

"I know," Clark said. He was silent for a second, as if chewing over something that was bugging him, "I just don't get why someone would do that. I mean, I want to believe that this girl Brainy was supposed to meet just missed him and didn't do this. But he seemed pretty sure it was her. I just don't get why you'd turn on someone and just tear them up like that."

Despite all the weird, often terrible things he'd seen in Smallville, Clark still couldn't understand it. He wasn't sure he wanted to but he still felt he needed to know if there was any reasoning behind this.

"I don't know either." He was quiet for a minute. "I'd think Brainy would know best who attacked him, whatever the people on the message board say. You don't get injuries that extensive without seeing the person who attacked you. It just makes me wonder why they would be so insistant that it wasn't this person."
