Day 38: Lunch

Soubi was beginning to feel the effects of a busy morning on a tired body. To make things worse, they were serving Tacos and Burritos. He could really do some with something a bit softer today. Blander. But it was hardly his biggest concern right now.

Having picked out his lunch, he looked for Ritsuka. He had to apologise, but these things usually ended up in bigger arguments, so, as could be expected, Soubi was a little nervous. Maybe they wouldn't find each other this shift. Maybe he had a little more time?

Soubi sat alone, being sure that his face was set in the expression that sent the girls at College the other way.

Okita had spent the last shift resting. After his talk with Kaito and the rough night before, he'd needed it. The tightness in his lungs had gotten to him by the end of lunch and he'd been taken back to his room to rest for a bit. At least there, he'd been able to cough and sleep in peace. Now that the shift was over though, he was brought back out and lead into the cafeteria. He wasn't much for eating again, especially since his stomach hurt, but the food was something he recognized. Of course, that was just because they'd had it awhile ago, too.

Taking a burrito so he could dissect it again, Okita made his way into the nearly empty cafeteria. He glanced at the other occupant, but the man's face was nothing if completely unfriendly at the moment. Normally that wouldn't deter the swordsman, but today he was still tired. He found a seat toward the middle and sat down, facing the door so he could see who came in. Then he began pulling the burrito apart, bit by bit to see what was inside.

Soubi's expression might have sent the girls from College away, but Sheena was somewhat immune to this face. After gathering her tray, a smug look on her face, she plopped herself down right next to Soubi.

"Heya," she said, bumping his shoulder with her own. "You wanted me? Here I am." It wasn't meant to be flirtatious, no matter how it sounded, but the ninja was in a good mood.

Beatrix vaguely wondered if she should start making a tally of the various 'robotic' beings in this place for her own amusement. She doubted this Rampage was about, but it might be worth her time to find out of Depth Charge really was as worked up about him as he seemed.

Taking her tray, the Bride was directed by her nurse to a table with a lone woman sitting at it, some excuse about not sitting alone given to her. She didn't care enough to argue, so she sat down. Peering over, her keen eyes noted that her first impression was wrong, that this was a man, despite his feminine appearance. She supposed it was enough to fool a good portion of the male populace. How amusing.

"It's better if you don't bother looking inside it," she stated in regards to the burrito. "Refried beans never make anything look appetizing."

As strange a conversation as that had been, Teisel was in much better spirits now. He'd made what could turn out to be an excellent ally, he had a solid goal for nighttime rather than his usual aimless wandering, and he had a chance to do something useful, which, considering his currently fragile sense of self-worth, was not trivial. As long as he didn't screw anything up.

He hadn't really felt up to eating at breakfast, so he was good and hungry by now. Unable to decide which kind of meat he'd prefer, he ended up taking one taco of each, and some of the salad. He had missed breakfast. Finding an empty seat, he started with the chicken, since that was the most familiar (and therefore least speacial). He ate mechanically, still feeling pretty glum, but not as soul-crushingly bleak and depressed as he'd been earlier.

By all accounts, Depth Charge should have been, if not happy, then at least satisfied.

That made at least four people he'd asked to look out for X now- Lugnut, his roommate Matsuda, the man he'd met that night (Javert?) and now Arlene- with X himself possibly making himself known during the next shift. The net was tightening already, he could feel it, and he was going to be there when it closed on the mutant.

But none of that stopped Depth Charge from taking his sweet time getting from the Sun Room to the cafeteria for lunch. Dawdling along the corridor, 'forgetting' his journal, stopping to look out of every available window... all delay tactics, designed to prolong the time it took him to reach the cafeteria.

He really didn't want to see Blitzwing.

Partly because he knew the topic of conversation wasn't going to be a walk in the park. Slag, he could lay the facts out well enough, spin a little story to whoever asked about Colony Omicron, but actually discussing it? Forget it. That meant thinking about it. But mostly? Mostly he didn't want to admit he was wrong about the 'con. Depth Charge didn't like to be wrong. It opened far too many doors in himself that he didn't wasn't prepared to look into.

He couldn't put it off forever, though. Eventually, his nurse took his arm (gently but firmly) and led him to the cafeteria, put a little salad on a plate to pick at and sat him down at a table. Bring it on, Decepticon.

Renamon had much on her mind when she came to the cafeteria, and it was safe to say that food was not one of them. She moved to a table near the wall and sat down, closing her eyes as she started a light meditation.

It wouldn't do very well if she was preoccupied when the person she was to interview showed up. She tried to focus her thoughts.

Senna was doing a little bit better after the talk with Meche. Some of the sedative had worn off and she was able to walk almost fine she only ran into the wall once. Stomach growling angrily at her not eating earlier, she loaded her plate, and made it over to an empty table.

Not wasting any time, she started eating. Food was more important right now than any drama.

Anya was usually attracting attention of some sort -- she was fairly hard to miss -- so the fact that Angel hadn't seen her since last night was...concerning.

But he wanted to talk to Willow first before he moved on to asking around.

The nurse shoved a tray into his hands. Angel frowned down at it and steered away before she could navigate him to a seat of her choosing in an attempt to get him to socialize. That rarely worked out well.

So breakfast was okay. But there was no Yuuri. And then Wolfram waited impatiently in the sun room, eyes never leaving the door. He barely allowed himself to blink. But still no Yuuri. Finally he couldn't stand it anymore, and asked a nurse if he could go to his room to check in on him.

Only to be told it wasn't necessary, that the boy in question was no longer here. He'd tried to go down the hallway anyways, only to be firmly stopped and forced to go into the cafeteria for lunch. He didn't fight back, only because his mind was in shock and he couldn't motivate himself to struggle. Wolfram didn't want to be in the cafeteria. Or anywhere else, for that matter. He was still in shock, but even that was starting to be taken over by a hated that was slowly starting to burn deep inside. Once left to his own devices with a plate of food, he stared down at it blankly, expression both dark and emotionless at the same time.

And then he slid the plate off the table with such force that the dish almost shattered, making a loud clanking noise and spilling food all over the floor. Wolfram stood up, intending to make his way back over to the food line, reacting rather than thinking.

If he couldn't have what he wanted, then no one would.

[Free as a cranky, verbose robot bird! ...Or something like that.]

Ugh, more food. HK began his usual mealtime ritual, poking suspiciously at the least threatening-looking dead, processed organic product on his plate, trying to determine whether it was likely to attack. It was unlikely, but still. Some neurotic (or justifiably cautious, as he preferred) part of his processing core still didn't trust this idea at all.

Kaoru was facing Lunch with more gusto than he had on previous days. Mostly because he wanted to find Ed and see what the bulletin was about. Spotting Wolfy, he was about to smile and wave, when the old man decided to throw his lunch on the floor.

Kaoru almost laughed, confused. But then he took a good look at Wolfy. Something was really wrong... Without a second thought, kaoru followed his roommate.

"Hey," he smiled, deciding to approach him gently.... He didn't want he same fate as the plate.

If it had been anyone else, they would have been ignored completely. But Kaoru (at least Wolfram assumed it was him and not Hikaru) was, at the very least, his roommate. And even though they weren't extremely close, the other boy had been willing to listen to him, willing to offer to help with Yuuri...

He felt the anger build up stronger inside, allowed it to consume him. He had to stay angry, or else the pain might be unbearable, and he refused to deal with that right now, not when so many other people were around.

The look he gave Kaoru was still slightly dangerous, and he balled his hands into fists, starting to breathe faster.

"He's not here... He wasn't ignoring me. They took him away."

And they were about to be quite sorry that they did.

So. The twins weren't people, uh, people. As such, they weren't really very good with certain situations. Tamaki's flambouyancy and tantrums and bouts of depression were easy. Becuase it was Tamaki and the twins knew he'd get over it. But real stuff? Kaoru didn't really have a clue.

But he figured that touching Wolfy's shoulder would get him thrown over it.

"Are you sure?" he asked, but he new the answer. Yuuri had to the same place as both Haruhi's, Kyouya and.... and Honey.

"He'll come back, ok? Wherever he is, he's alright," Kaoru said, almost certain. He didn't want to think of the alternatives....

Talking to TK had helped. Armand now knew what was facing him. He clenched his jaw shut to keep quiet as the nurse, still fussing over his apparent lack of being fat, piled food onto his plate and steered him to a table. No matter what name he answered to, Armand could very well pick out his own food and find a seat himself. He sighed, then pulled the burritos apart to see what was in them before trying one.

Recluse sat down at an isolated table, waiting impatiently to see if either Marcus or Kimberly would arrive. He really should have expected it, but once again, doing something at Marcus' suggestion had turned out to be a complete waste of his time. He'd waited all night, but nothing had happened. He could often wait decades to see a plan fulfilled, but the instant anything remotely tied to Marcus was added into play, he had to work so hard not to ignore all common sense and just kill something.

"Yuuri's... gone," Wolfram insisted, voice still oddly cold and distant. "He won't come back again. Never."

He raised his voice a little, temporarily distracted from his mission to try and destroy every taco, whatever the hell that was supposed to be, but not forgotten.

"They took him away forever once. And then they brought him back here. And he lied to me! He said that he'll come back home in the future. But there is no future!"

No escape. And Wolfram had seen the notes on the bulletin board about murders and deaths, in his search for some clue for his fiance. At the moment he refused to think about it too deeply.

Bridget had argued (well, pouted and fussed and apparently was cute) with his nurse to allow him to bring Roger to lunch. She'd said that with only one hand, how would he eat? While there was logic in that, this was Roger and clearly much more important that silly logic.

The nurse got her way, he'd stuck his tongue out at her, and still wound up in the lunch line, sans teddy bear.

Tacos and chips on his plate, Bridget looked around for a place to sit. He grinned when he spotted Armand and quickly walked over to his table. "I hope you don't mind if I join you Mr. Armand," he said with a smile.

Armand smiled at the boy, though he hid his worry about Bridget still only having one good arm to use. "Of course, you can sit with me. You're one of my favorite people."

In fact, he stood up and tried to take the tray to help Bridget settle easily. "Do you know what this food is?" he asked. If he asked enough questions, perhaps Bridget wouldn't get a chance to ask many of his own.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget beamed and blushed slightly at the help and compliment. "Thank you," he said, sitting down. "YOu're one of my favorite people too." He looked down at what Armand had on his plate.

"Yup! It's a burrito. A dish, when prepared like this anyway, that originally came from Central America. It's good," he added.

"If you recommend it, then I'll happily eat it. The nurses seem to think I'm underweight." Armand hovered until he was certain Bridget had his situation under control. "They do have a lot of strange food here," he commented. "I don't recognize many things." Talking about food was safe. Even admitting his ignorance wasn't embarrassing.

"They still won't let you have Roger?" he asked. More questions. Good.

[identity profile] hangenki.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wolf... please don't say that," Kaoru said, softly. "My friends have...disappeared too. But they've also come back before. I refuse to believe they're gone forever..."

He knew Wolf was angry, but he had to try and reassure Wolf, and himself, that....maybe it wasn't the end.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget made a face. "I got to have him this morning, but they said he'd only get dirty if he came with me to lunch." Reaching up and brushing back a bit of his hair, he smiled and shrugged one shoulder.

"I can go get him after lunch though." He looked Armand over with a worried eye. "Are you alright? I haven't spoken to you in what feels like forever."

That he was allowed Roger during non-mealtimes was something. Armand nodded. "It's--" he began, then realized he'd have to answer the question first. "Physically, I'm fine. It has been a while hasn't it? The nurses are silly to think you'd get Roger dirty. You value Roger very highly."

He didn't think that answer would satisfy Bridget, but it was completely true. Armand tore into the burrito thing with a fork.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Physically? Bridget frowned. "What about otherwise? Did something happen?" He was worried for his friend. Armand seemed to be more evasive than usual.

"Are your other friends okay?" What if Armand had lost someone? One of the people listed as missing or dead? That would be horrible!
