Day 38: Lunch

Soubi was beginning to feel the effects of a busy morning on a tired body. To make things worse, they were serving Tacos and Burritos. He could really do some with something a bit softer today. Blander. But it was hardly his biggest concern right now.

Having picked out his lunch, he looked for Ritsuka. He had to apologise, but these things usually ended up in bigger arguments, so, as could be expected, Soubi was a little nervous. Maybe they wouldn't find each other this shift. Maybe he had a little more time?

Soubi sat alone, being sure that his face was set in the expression that sent the girls at College the other way.

And there he kept going, just chatting him up as if they were friends. The thought was disgusting enough to make his stomach turn, but Claude stubbornly took another bite of his burrito.

"No, I'm not ashamed of it," he replied hotly. He just didn't feel like explaining why he was carrying around a stuffed sea-horse, and that went doubly so for Sync. It was a long story, it wasn't worth the effort right now, and he definitely didn't want Sync to know anymore about him than he already did.

"Why do you even care, anyway?" he added with a scowl. "It has nothing to do with you."

"Oh really now? Because it sure seems like it." He casually replied to Claude's response, making it obvious that he wasn't going to give up just like that. The latter already made a big enough fuss about keeping it a secret that there was no way for him not to be interested. Plus the blond's stubbornness was amusing in its own right, so either way the God-General was definitely getting a kick out of this.

Sync stopped his antics for a second to grace Claude with an amused smirk, leaning in closer until their faces were barely inches apart.

"What? I'm not allowed to be curious?"

"I just don't feel like talking to you." Why was it so hard for him to wrap his mind around that? Then again, Claude had to keep reminding himself that Sync probably knew that all too well, and was just taking advantage of the situation. At least he wasn't off bothering Guy now, though he had a terrible feeling that he'd already gotten in his fair share of that at some point.

When Sync leaned in, however, Claude instinctively tried to back away, his teeth clenching. The last thing he needed was this bastard getting up in his face.

"If you really have to know that badly, it's something somebody made in arts and crafts, okay?" he added hastily. "It's not a big deal."

Sync merely blinked when Claude tried to back away from him, almost like he honestly didn't know why the latter was acting like that. Of course, he used this to his advantage and tried to lean over the blond to get a better look at the object in question. At that point he could've sworn he caught a glimpse of yellow.

"If it isn't that big of a deal then why were you trying to hide it?" It probably wasn't all that great anyway, but it was just too much fun poking and prodding Claude like this.

"Why do you have it anyway? Was it a gift?"

He just wasn't going to let this go, was he? Claude frowned as he took another bite of his burrito. "I'm not trying to hide it," he said. "I just don't feel like talking to you about it.

Not for the last time, he wished he could just get up and move. Or that he could just sock this guy in the face. But the cafeteria was too crowded to cause a commotion, and he was afraid the situation would get out of hand if he tried to shake Sync off his heels. Which was probably partly why Sync had probably cornered him in the first place.

"It isn't even mine," he added. "I'm just supposed to deliver it for somebody."

Indeed, Sync knew very well that Claude couldn't risk starting a commotion here, but even that was somewhat of a disappointment in its own right. It meant that he'd have to work harder to make the latter snap, but that was only if he even learned his lesson from last time. And of course, it'd just feel weird giving the latter more credit than he deserved.

The God-General was certainly having a grand time reflecting Claude's questions back at him, but he stopped and blinked when the blond finally 'confessed', doing his best to look over his shoulder before glancing back at him.

"...Oh," Sync began before he smirked slightly. "And here you had me thinking that it was for your boyfriend."

Claude opened his mouth at the remark, ready to give some kind of nasty retort, but he stopped short when he realized what it was Sync had said. Wait, wait, wait, boyfriend? He wasn't talking about...

If it had come from anyone else, he might have just gotten embarrassed and denied it, but, without thinking, Claude slammed his palm against the table, eyes viciously narrowed as he turned to look at his enemy.

"Stop acting like you know what the hell you're talking about!" he snapped. "He's not--we're just--!" Dammit, he didn't have to explain himself to this guy! Gritting his teeth, he turned back to his food, intent on eating it, but his appetite had left him altogether.
