Nightshift 36: West Wing, South Hall 2-B

[From here.]

The hall seemed deserted, with no one else up here yet. Elena wondered if everyone was outside or something, the way they'd tried to go that first night. But they had a mission to accomplish, and hopefully they could find what Rude was looking for.

"We should keep going, right?" she asked. "I don't think these rooms are right from the map..."

There was a pause. For a second, he honestly couldn't remember where it was. He could only recall somewhere in male block, which was only fucking obvious, but the number wasn't coming up. Sanzo frowned slightly, closed his eyes for a moment to help concentrate.

After a moment, it came back to him. His eyes opened.

"...M23." Sanzo finally said. He hadn't exactly been too open where his cell was with the other patients in general, but there wasn't any avoiding this. It wasn't as if he could go parrot that back at Homura anyway. The fucker already knew where his room was, and Sanzo wasn't in the mood to argue with Kenren about it. Kenren might've betrayed them by siding with Homura, but at least on this issue, it didn't have that much bearing. Not if Homura already knew.

Kenren pretended not to notice the long pause between asking his question and Sanzo giving him an answer. Memory loss perhaps? It certainly would seem to fit, he thought. He occupied himself with checking along the next corridor instead, peering along it both ways before shining the flashlight down it to get a better view. Nothing nasty that he could see, which was a relief. While he could protect Sanzo if something attacked them, there was only one of him and that would leave Sanzo open to attack.

"M23, right," Kenren said softly, returning to Sanzo's side once he was certain that the corridor was clear. "We'll take the staircase to the left, the one that comes out by the waiting room. It's closer to that block of rooms."
