Nightshift 36: F-A Block Hallway

[from here]

She didn't pause, only noting that the halls were empty for once. It seemed that she was one of the first out. It didn't matter in the long run. She was focused on her tasks; nothing else registered.

Momo trailed her fingers along the wall as she paused to see if Sora had made it to the hallway yet. No, it seemed not. Unsurprising, considering how far some of the men's blocks were. He may be in one of the further ones for all the shinigami knew.

There was someone else in this hall, Hanyuu noted with slight relief. It was always a lot scarier when the halls were completely empty, so she was glad to see at least one other person out.

Only a couple people in this hall. Apparently she was out earlier than usual.

MOMO kept her light off as she moved. She knew where she was going, so it was best to avoid wasting the batteries. Plus she didn't want to risk drawing any unwanted attention to herself either.

Ururu did okay, until she came to the end of her hall. Then she had to go one way or the other, except she was too dizzy to tell one way from the other, or to even understand at first where the wall she'd been leaning on had gone to. It wasn't good, not at all, and Ururu wanted to keep moving. But moving was very hard, and even though she wanted to get to her friends, Ururu thought that maybe she could take a little break. Just a small one, long enough to feel better.

Ururu sank down onto the floor, and hoped everything got better soon. She didn't want her friends to worry.

The smaller hallway opened into a larger one, and here Ayumu found the source of the voices she'd heard. Some of the people there were carrying small lights in their hands which didn't look quite like any candles or lanterns she had ever seen, and she paused a moment to watch them go past, frowning slightly. Some kind of Western invention? The clothing and the furniture seemed to fit that.

Ayumu finally shook her head slightly and started to move again, carefully giving a wide berth to the person she could hear slouching against the wall nearby. There'd been a door visible for a moment when someone else moved through it, and she headed that direction.

So far this didn't look anything like any of the places she'd been in Kyoto, and she was entirely baffled. It was not a state of mind she enjoyed being in, either.

[identity profile] morphenominal.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)

Okay, so the one hallway led to another. The flashlight made traveling a little easier, but it would've been a lot better if she had even the slightest idea about where she was going. Or where she was, even.

There were people in this hall, but Kimberly didn't even think about trying to ask them about this place. If this really was some sort of scheme, then they could very well be in on it. Or they could've gotten caught in it unwillingly, but she wasn't ready to take a risk and find out just yet. She needed to find her communicator, or at least another way of contacting the others, first.

[identity profile] marin-karin.livejournal.com 2008-10-29 12:58 am (UTC)(link)

As she continued down the hallway, Mitsuru noticed that the doors all had numbers over them with a letter F in front of them. She certainly didn't know of any places in Kyoto that labeled their rooms like that. The numbers went in ascending order as she went towards the adjoining hallway, as well. It was simple information that likely wasn't important, but for all she knew it would prove important later on. It was best to take note of it now.

There seemed to be other people wandering around as she went out into the next hallway, several of them with flashlights. Most of them also appeared to be women, as far as she could tell. Whether this was important or not would be proven later. Until then, it was just another piece of information that might give her some insight as to what was going on.

It was difficult to think of any reason why the people who had kidnapped her would take all women, but perhaps she simply hadn't seen the men yet. Even organized criminal circles never kidnapped this many people at once for various ransoms. Or at least, Mitsuru thought that they wouldn't. Despite all the implications and rumors against them, the Kirijo group was nothing like that.

For the moment, she continued on towards the nearby. It seemed like going away from the door would only lead to more rooms, since most of the women seemed to be leaving the vicinity, so it seemed logical that the information she was looking for would be further away.

Stepping a bit sloppily into the hallway, she placed a hand on the opposite wall, to steady her swirling head. Even Harley wasn't crazy enough to think venturing out in this state was a good idea, what with the crazy cats and monster bug things running around. But as the saying went, hell hath no fury...

She swept the flashlight back and forth, down the hallway before walking herself down the hall, hand still on one of the walls. She'd been sedated before; she could cope with this... maybe. All she needed was to remain focused on her goal. Her babies were somewhere in this facility, she knew it. And she wasn't going to leave without them.

Heading down the same way she was accustomed to by this point, she pulled her hand away from the wall and walked carefully toward those familiar large doors.

By the time Michiru reached the end of the hallway, there were already a few people loitering in the open space. A few seemed to be alone, but none of them were Seiya, so it didn't concern her. She only had one goal tonight, and that was to assist Seiya in locating Usagi--if she was still in the building.

Frowning slightly, Michiru chose an unoccupied section of the hallway to lean against, crossing her arms over her chest. She kept her eyes fixed on the other corridors, waiting for any signs of her 'companion'.

Having to make up for the disadvantage such opaque darkness created meant relying more on the other senses, not just sight. Focus on her breathing, on the sounds of other's breathing, on the small sounds of movement, on the changes in the feel of the air against her body. Focus on her assassin's training.

Using her flashlight would have made things easier, but Tsubaki couldn't always depend on it. In some ways, it was safer making a habit of moving in the dark.

She sensed quite a few presences, some near, some only murmured voices in the gloom, though she thought one of the figures was Michiru from what she could see of the person's build. It sounded as though many were in pairs or groups. With caution in mind, Tsubaki crossed to the open cell block door, where the equally dark and foreboding hallway lay beyond.

It seemed like there were just as many people out over here as there had been back in Matsuda's own block. He'd never really been down this particular block, but if it was anything like the others (at least from the maps that he'd seen on the bulletin board), then the hallway he was looking for should be coming up soon.

Naminé was silent this time as she led the way, not questioning Alita's reason for heading to the file room. In truth, she was still thinking about what happened today - meeting Roxas, finding out that Soma had adopted this world as his own, and that Luxord was going to do the same...

Some part of her still wanted to stop her friend, but she knew that this way probably was the better way for him.

Damn, his bag was a little heavy with all that metal in it. He never would've had this problem in his old body. He adjusted his baggage as he made his way to Skuld's room.

The same damn hallways every night. Lust was beginning to grow bored once more. The same walls, the same creatures, the same teasing and taunting voices calling out....

It was enough to drive a girl mad.

She ran a hand through her hair, her bladed knuckles hanging by her side, and made her way towards the men's dorms.

Well shit. Reno was out for the night. Rude had taken his pipe and headed out to fetch Elena. She was pretty quick, so maybe she could do the Monster stabbing tonight in Reno's place. He'd wanted her to help him keep the bastard distracted while Reno went for the kill, but whatever. He was a Turk. Adopt, Adapt and Improve.

After leaving her room, thoughts of Skuld continued to plague Archer's mind. There wasn't anything he could really do for her without knowing where she was and some back up, but that didn't stop him from thinking about it.

It looked like Thursday wasn't there yet, which was surprising, considering Archer had taken the scenic route to get here. Hopefully the institute hadn't taken her too.

As she turned from one dark hall into the next, Anise realized she should have checked with her partner to make sure he was bringing a flashlight. He had to have one, right? It seemed like everyone had one except her.

There had been a few notes about lost flashlights on the bulletin earlier though, she recalled. Some people had even listed places to find replacements. Anise would have to try to remember them, and grab one for herself one of these nights. She couldn't depend on other people to bring theirs all the time, could she?

Fortunately, light wasn't something she needed at the moment. Anise knew the way too well to have any trouble navigating these halls.

Sakura held the flashlight in one hand and the pens in the other. She kept it off for the moment, relying on her other senses as she crept soundlessly as she could down the hall. Nice as it might be to see better, it would also give away her location, and in an unknown situation like this one, she wasn't sure she could afford to do that.

There were voices and footsteps that were easy enough to hear. It didn't seem like the people here were trying very hard to disguise their presence. It was of some comfort, but not enough to make her drop her guard. A male by himself, and a couple of females further down if she was correct. They had lights, so it was easy to spot them without (she hoped) being noticed.

The cramped hallways reminded her of Orochimaru's last base, in a creepy and uncomfortable way. With all the strange things that man did, she wouldn't put it past him to dress up his prisoners in grey pajamas and put them in weird little rooms. That thought was enough to give her the chills, even though reports had said that Orochimaru was already dead.

Picking up what she could of the conversations along the way, she continued on, in hopes that there might be something beyond the tiny hallways with their little rooms one after another.

That last stretch seemed to last forever, but he'd reached the meeting point. And Thursday still wasn't there. Now, he really was worried about the woman.

Still, the faint sounds of conversation and movement from the surrounding area gave a small sense of comfort. The other patients were still there, looking for a way out. Unless those sounds belonged to the monsters, which was a very unsettling thought.

The path to the Sun Room was well worn into her memory now, and coupled with her well-adapted night vision, maneuvering through the halls without light was easy. Preferable, actually. Melissa hoisted the umbrella further up on her right arm and continued on, ignoring the varied tastes and thoughts that still lingered.

It seemed Archer was already here, noted Thursday as she scanned the area with her torch. He appeared to be deep in conversation with a young pink-haired girl, though - a new arrival, perhaps? She didn't really want to eavesdrop, so she settled against the wall and waited for them to finish, trusting Archer to see her eventually.

Of course she needed to check the bottom floors a little better just in case. She'd been around places with stairs, but except for her outing with Arlene, she'd not been to other parts of the place. Maybe it was time for that unbeaten pathway she'd been yelling at the Doctor about so much.

She knew where the bathrooms were and passed them up for heading to one of the larger hallways.
