Nightshift 36: F-A Block Hallway

[from here]

She didn't pause, only noting that the halls were empty for once. It seemed that she was one of the first out. It didn't matter in the long run. She was focused on her tasks; nothing else registered.

He's never seen someone throw up blood and keep going, has he? Some nights Hokuto thought she was going to come out of this with a very odd concept of what made an injury qualify as severe. "We both will."

Before they could get moving, she asked Sora, "Do you have any magic? I'm more of a fighter--I can put up shields, but they're usually not strong enough to do much good." The fact that her weapon was a shovel probably didn't tell him much (and her outfit gave away even less--so to speak), but he was welcome to ask anything he wanted to know.

Momo chuckled lightly. "I'll be fine, Sora-san. I appreciate your concern. The easiest way to help is to stay to my left. I have a bit of a blind spot there and need someone I can count on to help cover it a little," she said with a wink. Even the gravity of her injuries could not keep the smile off her face and the happiness that seemed to radiate off her.

"After you answer Hokuto-chan's question, we need to be moving, alright?"

The two certainly seemed confident despite the fact that one of them was injured - on the other hand, they all appeared to be armed, and they all had some level of ability, so that might explain it. Usually Sora was the first person to be confident, but Landel's had certainly humbled him. Taking out Heartless was a walk in the park compared to what he had to deal with here.

He immediately moved to Momo's left side and nodded to her before glancing back to Hokuto. "I don't have any magic here, no. I can summon my weapon when I'm in immediate danger, though, and it can do some damage." Even if they were functioning more on the offensive side, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Magic could be unreliable, after all - especially if the monster was elemental and absorbed the spell rather than sustaining damage from it.

On the other hand, creatures with particularly good shielding could take physical attacks and barely flinch, so it really depended on what they ran into. "But all right, let's get going," he agreed. "Who should lead the way?" He knew how to get there, and he wanted to volunteer since Momo wasn't at one-hundred percent, but Hitsugaya had designated Momo as group leader, so he didn't want to overstep his bounds.

"Hinamori-fukutaichou does," Hokuto explained. There was SO no way the vice-captain's new blind spot (Hokuto was kind of surprised she'd admitted to it) was going to slow her down--it couldn't really be adjusted for completely, but close enough.

So--they were planning to go outside the Institute, on their own? If they made it, this should be a night to remember.

...she was trying not to worry too much about in what way.

Momo chuckled and patted Hokuto on the shoulder. "Unless the situation is dire and I have to issue an order, let's ease up a bit on the formality, Hokuto-chan," she said.

She turned her attention to Sora. "Normally, I take point until we're in a known combat zone. The formation then depends on the terrain and the situation. We will move quickly until we get to the wall. Stay close," the shinigami said as she turned and left the women's block for the rec field.
