Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

The visitor shift left Joshua more than a little bemused at the outcome. He'd learned a lot from the brief interaction, and though he'd never admit it out loud, he was a bit shaken from the encounter. Neku acted entirely like himself, but how things had played out... no, he didn't like that. Not at all.

That was why the blond was quiet as he walked into the room and sat on his bed, pursing his lips and obviously deep in thought. This... wasn't good.

Brooklyn looked up from his dinner to watch his roommate curiously. The boy hadn't even glanced at his own food, seemingly lost in thought. Hopefully nothing too bad had happened that day...

"Everything okay with you?" he asked, having swallowed a large mouthful of steak. Whatever that deal with the visitors had been about, it seemed to be throwing a lot of patients off recently.

"Mm... not particularly, no." Of course, he'd have to explain things to Shiki later on, perhaps with the aid of an orderly to keep her from running him over with that wheelchair. Ugh, his life was becoming such a mess.

And now he'd have to face the particularly unpleasant reality that some third party had stepped between himself, his plans, and Neku. That was perhaps the most worrisome part. Someone who had beaten him at his own game Joshua could admire in a way, or at least play their new game by their rules. But someone who had just yoinked him from his home and dumped him here, in this inelegant, pathetic excuse for a Game? No, that he couldn't admire at all.

"Visitor?" Brooklyn asked, following through with his speculation. Even if Joshua wasn't willing to speak much about it, he was still curious as to how the process had gone down. It'd be nice to know in case he ever got one.

He went on to say "If you don't want to talk about it, that's okay," even though he would have preferred that the boy did.

"That's a good guess," Joshua answered almost flippantly, as though he was too distracted to give a proper answer at the time. Maybe he was... maybe Neku was one of the few things in the world that could hold Joshua's attention even after he was gone. Or perhaps it was just the sudden change in situation that had his attention?

Regardless, after a bit of a pause, he suddenly looked at Brooklyn with a curious expression on his face. "What would you do if someone you thought you'd killed was suddenly back to life?"

"Someone I killed...?" Brooklyn blinked at the question. That was hard to say. Who had he killed in the past? A few nameless vikings perhaps, but considering what they'd done to his clan he hardly felt sorry for it. Maybe the occasional bandit... "I don't know, are they immortal?"

There had been times when someone they'd thought dead had come back - mostly MacBeth and Demona. It was hard to think someone could survive some of the explosions they'd lived through, but then that was the point of immortality, wasn't it?

"I'm reasonably sure that he's not. Not yet, anyway." Joshua had had much bigger plans for Neku than that, but unfortunately, it seemed like a wrench or five had been thrown into those plans. How aggravating! Almost as aggravating as being stuck in here of all places!

Ah well. Joshua laid back on his bed again, his eyes sliding shut as he did so. Might as well take it easy until it was time to start wandering around, right? Hopefully he'd catch Sync before his partner ditched him again. "...then again, I was reasonably sure about some other things about him and was proven wrong. Who knows what else might have happened to him?"
