Nightshift 35: Main Hallway, 2-Centre
[from here]
Siegfried led the way along the main hallway and past the balcony looking down on the Sun Room, constantly on the lookout for anything that might sneak up on the two. He expected that they would hear something before they were attacked, but that may not always be the case. It was better to be safe than sorry.
As they walked, Siegfried spoke quietly to Xelloss. “There’s a storage room at the end of this hallway where they keep the batteries. We can search there first.”

For now, at least, they were making steady progress.

Sousuke took Miku's hand and moved quickly across the hallway, sword held loosely at his side. They were going to make it to that damned room if he had anything to say about it.

"So quiet..."

He quickened his pace a little--they were so close, and he didn't want them to trip at the finish line.

Not bothering to wait for the boy to answer her question, Elle turned her attention to the Sun Room. There seemed to be some fighting going on down there, but it was too dark to make out details.
Partially out of boredom, partially just because she could, she shot a few arcs of electricity at the railing that theoretically prevented really stupid people from falling to their death - or more likely, grievous injury - on the Sun Room floor below. The blue arcs danced along the conductive surface, lighting the whole area up. Elle kept the electricity going, not wanting the light show to disappear quite yet. Maybe someone would think it was pretty and touch it. Not that it would hurt them much, she though bitterly.

"You're seriously wasting energy, you know. Doesn't this place weaken powers?" Shito was pretty sure that had been mentioned in the new-patient primer thing on the message board.

"Have your powers been weakened?" she asked casually. No harm in expanding her list, even if this turned out to be her last night here. Considering how obnoxious everyone here was, she wouldn't mind handing that list to Sylar and giving him her blessing to go psycho serial killer on everyone. Though she'd be sure to cross Eddie's name off first, if she did that. And maybe Peter's too - not that Sylar didn't already know Peter was here. But she wouldn't want to encourage him.
Was she really deciding to forgive Peter for what he'd done to her? He'd betrayed her, he'd disappointed her. He'd made her think he really cared about her, when clearly all he cared about was using her to escape. But at the same time... he was Peter.

... Actually, he wasn't lying at all, unless Akatsuki showed up at some point.

The glowing ball of electricity sprang to life in her palm again. "Is more of you going to fall off?" She gave the boy's right wrist a pointed look.

A bit closer to the goal, however, and the carnage became evident. From below there were screams of pain, and Near could only hope Brooklyn didn't pick that moment to forget that he didn't have wings with which he could fly down and assist those in seemingly greater need. Also present were a pair of people, neither of whom looked significantly older than Near. The teen easily ignored all of it, seeing no apparent danger, but the closed door that marked their goal.
"It's there." Near shined the light on the door for a moment, but didn't advance more than few slow steps. He had to know what Brooklyn would do first, and more importantly, if the man would need to be convinced that moving along with Near was still the best course of action.

If he'd thought he'd seen monsters here before, they were nothing compared to what he saw now. There was two of them, and very young patients under attack by them. If he hadn't been with Near, he was quite certain he would have lept from the rail at this point - lack of wings and strength be damned. He was growling before he knew it, eyes briefly lighting white. Then he stopped, glancing back to Near and then to the sun room again.
It was an effort to pull himself away, but he did. He tried to put the sounds of screaming out of his head as he tested the knob on the door. Locked. Not surprising. Using some of the anger built up over his current situation, the gargoyle threw himself into the door with a satisfying crack.

Roy became more cautious when he saw that there were two other groups of patients who were searching this area. When everyone clumped together like this, it meant there was a larger chance of monsters getting attracted. So he kept silent for the moment, knowing that Hughes would come to a similar conclusion and act accordingly.
Of course, some of the others seemed to think that they could carry on conversations without a problem, but Roy knew they weren't his responsibility.
He moved down the center hallway, wanting to get to the other side of the chapel to try out the doors there. He was fairly certain he had tried a few of them already, but it was best to be completely sure.

He moved to the end of the railed area and then turned left, trying the first door there and finding that it was locked, but loosely. It could have been broken into just as easily as the door next to it that the others had just entered, which meant that they didn't need to waste any more time on it.
Roy continued north, past the broken door and onto the next one.

He just hoped this actually resulted in something. He knew Roy had to be feeling pretty defeated, and any progress was something to celebrate in the institute. Hopefully they'd have something to celebrate before the end of the night.

But there were also some weights, so perhaps those other machines were meant for exercise? He couldn't really be sure, but he doubted Hughes would have a better idea than he did. There were obviously some things about this place that they just couldn't understand considering the world they came from.
He turned back toward his friend, ready to explain, when a bolt of lightning shot up from down below and hit one of the other patients nearby. Roy pressed himself against the wall, narrowing his eyes as he tried to get a look at what was going on down there. Usually whatever brawl that was going on in the Sun Room didn't affect the second floor, but apparently they couldn't even take that for granted.

...well here were all of the people that Joshua had been wondering about from the previous hall. All clumped up, with a light show down below casting everything in darkness and light all together. It was fascinating to watch, especially watching the people up here, in relative safety, going about their business as though they were completely unconcerned with the idea.
It made him giggle, it really did. Neku would have pitched a fit if he knew so many people could be so callous to their fellow man.

Allelujah heard the crashing sound and the boom of thunder before he got to the Sun Room hallways, and it gave him pause for a moment. But if there was something there, then he'd rather know what it was than wait for it to come and hunt him down like that creature last night had. He stepped out a little way, peering into the corridor.
What the hell was that creature?!
He could see it attacking a man and a blond girl, and for a moment, a dark smile of satisfaction crossed his lips when he recognised the girl. Just what she deserved. Hallelujah would be glad to help if he didn't think that the monster creature might go for him as well. The expression quickly faded and he pressed himself back against the wall, wanting to make sure that that creature didn't see him.

Ah well. What was the point in being unfriendly? Joshua ambled next to the other boy, grinning as he did so. "Quite the show, isn't it? Interesting to see that the deck's pretty stacked against us." Using a giant flesh-eating Noise with lightning and a big spear against underpowered patients? That was just crass.

He was a little startled when a young-looking boy spoke to him and Allelujah turned towards Joshua, feigning a little more surprise than he actually felt, making himself look off-guard. "We should move while it's distracted," he said quietly, glancing towards the other side of the railed area and judging how much chance they had of getting there.

Again Near took care to shine his light around the area before stepping out of the room. It seemed something had happened, if the state of the men on the far wall was any indication. But at the same time, there was a person leaning over the railing who seemed less afraid and more delighted. Regardless, Near knew it was best to move on before Brooklyn's control failed him and he really did leap down into the Sun Room.
"This way." Near kept close to the wall, heading the opposite of the way they had come earlier. "It's the second hall on the left."

Charred flesh, that was a familiar smell. Dead flesh that was walking, though, that was something else.
Diva stopped to watch for a moment, the bright lights burning her eyes a little, but otherwise illuminating everything for her sense of sight, even if it wasn't the sense she needed to rely on during all of the dark nights. The girl and boy were interesting; interesting blood. She licked some of Fai's from the corner of her mouth again.
But not so interesting that she cared to do more than pause briefly.
She moved past them and further into the gloom.

It seemed as though the two of them had missed something that had recently occurred in this hall. Brooklyn tried hard not to think negatively of Nate for making him leave it. There were others around. Surely help would be offered?
He needed to learn first aid. There was only so much he could do to tend to human wounds, and his medical knowledge was extremely outdated. Gargoyles had been blessed with the ability to heal while they were stone.
