Nightshift 35: Main Hallway, 2-Centre
[from here]
Siegfried led the way along the main hallway and past the balcony looking down on the Sun Room, constantly on the lookout for anything that might sneak up on the two. He expected that they would hear something before they were attacked, but that may not always be the case. It was better to be safe than sorry.
As they walked, Siegfried spoke quietly to Xelloss. “There’s a storage room at the end of this hallway where they keep the batteries. We can search there first.”

At least whatever was going on behind them made it easier to see. The room was some sort of lounge, housing a few armchairs and tables and so on. He wasn't inclined to look any closer, and so he turned back toward Hughes and held back a gasp when his eyes settled on the large creature that had appeared and was targeting the blond girl.
The girl at least looked ready to defend herself, though it seemed like the monster was retreating back down all of a sudden. Letting out a sigh of relief, Roy nodded to Hughes and started to quickly lead him back to the main hall so that they could get away from all of this chaos.

They had gotten to the second floor's main hallway safely enough, but Roy wasn't intent on just running away. He grabbed for his lighter, hoping that Hughes would understand. He knew this wasn't exactly the time and place to be a hero, but leaving people for dead was a concept he had tried to abandon when he came out of the Ishbal War.
He forced his thumb over the lighter, causing it to spark, and then the array carved into the back of his hand lit up. He threw his hand forward and a medium-sized blast of fire was sent straight for the creature.
It took a substantial amount of energy out of him, but not enough that escape wasn't an option. Not even delaying long enough to see if the attack did any good, Roy raced down the hall toward the other side of the building, only hoping that things weren't as hectic there.
