Day 21: Lunch
Hikaru and Kaoru had been so caught up in their little game that they initially hadn't heard the intercom go off. The new "ding" system was far less jarring than the old SCREECH, and as such, wasn't as easily heard, even in a place as quiet as the library. All too soon, the nurses came to separate the twins and take them to the next activity--lunch.
It only felt like a few minutes since breakfast, somehow, and yet Hikaru was starved. The lunch selection was ridiculously Americanized food of the "Pan Asian" genre, as bad as when his family had wanted Japanese food in California and had gone to the "nicest" restaurant in the English language guidebook. He cringed visibly when the surly cafeteria worker poured sauce on his rice--which was supposed to be plain--but...food was food, and he wasn't feeling terribly picky right now. At least it smelled all right.
One of the good things about being the first one into the cafeteria was having his pick of the tables. Hikaru chose one of the larger ones, saving seats for Kaoru, Tamaki, and (in a fit of hopefulness) Haruhi.
He hoped they'd come soon. He hated being alone.

Zelos' room was-- oh, that was rich. Aerith couldn't hold back a quiet chuckle, hidden in her hands. "So Landel's does have a sense of humor."
More than flirting, which only came naturally to her, she also wondered about who would end up being leader. As a healer she was used to taking the backseat in such positions, but all three of them were strong-willed and suited for the job.
"So upstairs is definitely dangerous. If we're looking for files, the doctor's offices is probably a good place to start. We'll probably have to go upstairs eventually though."

He wasn't sure what to make of Zack's statement. This guy seemed to have been here longer than him, but somehow he'd missed a whole block? "More to 70 or 80, but I'm not sure." He hadn't really looked around the male block all that much, but he could remember peeking back when the nurse had dragged him out in the morning - there was another row of cells beyond his own.
He considered Aerith's words. "The doctor's offices will probably be on the higher floors, so we might as well head on up there."
Zelos suddenly had the feeling they couldn't skirt around it any longer, and that positions had to be handed out and someone had to be leader. He wasn't really going to fight for the position, but someone had to say something. Picking up his index finger, he suddenly went around pointing at everyone at the table.
"Eenie meenie miney mo....my mother said to pick the very best leader and you...are....IT!" His finger landed on Zack.
"Glad we got that settled."

"I guess we did," she said, her voice tight. "But I do remember where my doctor's office was. And he did have a desk with drawers and files with him. I don't think it would be that far fetched to assume he keeps them in his office. You know, if you're open to suggestions."
So she was bitter. She didn't feel badly about it. She was sick and tired of doing work and lending more than her weight and not getting anything but fucked over or ignored.

He nibbled on his lip for a moment before sighing. It seemed that Lyta wasn't so pleased with him being leader. It wasn't like he'd asked to be in the first place; he just often fell into that position. However, he had no problem taking orders, either. He'd worked under Sephiroth for a good amount of time, after all. "If you want to take charge of this, that's fine," he told her. "I'm flexible."
He stretched his arms out and then let them fall back to his sides. "But to give my bit of input, it does seem like we should check out the doctor's offices on the first floor first, then move to the second floor to check that out once we're done." Maybe it was planning too much for one night, but if they moved efficiently and knew when to pick their fights, it would work out.

Zack offered his elected position to Lyta then, and Aerith smiled. Hopefully they wouldn't be in conflict over this later on tonight. "I agree. Looking for files first is still our best idea. Gathering information can be a powerful tool."
Also, it sounded less dangerous than the second floor. Even if they would have to face it eventually.
