Dayshift 34: Men's Showers

Albel had wasted an entire night, but he couldn't quite figure out how he had actually wasted it. He had left his room early, didn't stand around doing nothing and no pathetic worm had dragged him down. Finding Fayt's room and smack the foolish maggot against the nearest wall shouldn't have taken a full night, but yet he found himself back in his bed before he even had so much as located the right door.

What the hell?!

But he didn't have much time to think about it, as one of the wenches instantly stepped into his room as soon he sat up. Had she had been waiting behind the door or something? He ignored her useless babble along the way to the showers. Apparently, he had slept through most of the day. Perhaps the lack of sleep was taking it's toll, though the warrior wouldn't even think about admitting that thought. And who cared about it anyway? The days were useless!

By the looks of things, Albel was the first one to arrive. Not that he cared. After stripping himself of his clothing he stepped inside the shower area and picked a stall by random. It took some fiddling with the knobs before the water temperature was good enough, but he eventually let the water wash over his body.

[Free!]

aww~ *pets* how horrible >:

Having reached one of the stools, he grabbed it and towed it back over to where ZEX was waiting. "I'm going to wash your hair for you," he said, patiently, settling the stool between ZEX and the shower-- still very carefully not really looking at ZEX. "Sit down, please."

it's a hard life

ZEX watched him come closer curiously, head just slightly tilted. He did so wish he had his head tentacles at times like these.

"My hair...?" ZEX reached up and touched one of the lank strands near his face. "Is there something wrong with it?" He thought the water would clean it for him... perhaps there was more to it than that? Although, this did seem a lot less fun and interesting than say, groping his human while he was so vulnerable.

On the other hand, ZEX tugged at the strand of hair in his hand and remembered how it felt when his human touched his hair that way... humans certainly came up with such fascinating methods for foreplay! ZEX was more than willing to play that game, in which case... even if the water's spray felt harsh to his skin as it was.

"If you insist..." ZEX smiled at him in that lecherous way, and sat facing him.

well, captain will make it all better~

Zelnick made a non-committal noise-- aside from the odd greenish tinge and general look that ZEX had no idea how to take care of it, there wasn't anything actually wrong with it-- and ignored the lecherous smile to go to the dispensers along the wall. Lessee, this one was shampoo, right?

Pumping a generous amount of the stuff into his palm (probably more than he needed, but ZEX's hair was kind of wanting for it), he turned back to ZEX, standing behind him (blocking most of the shower's spray) and beginning to work the shampoo into his hair.

He conveniently ignored that this was probably really, really intimate looking to anyone else. Just washing a friend's hair, nothing to see here, at least he isn't clinging now...

oh really O3

ZEX watched his Captain, trying to puzzle out what he could be doing. The devices on the wall had some kind of fluid inside them... some type of cleaning agent, perhaps? Humans did seem to take a lot of care and upkeep... ZEX would have to remember that in the future, should he ever come into possession of one. Or at least, possession of one in different circumstances.

His Captain did block the spray somewhat (which, he realized, he was somewhat thankful for... it was beginning to make his skin feel a little raw), and he touched his hair in a... different way than before. Human hair felt very different when wet, he quickly learned... it felt a lot heavier, and it didn't move as smoothly or as cleanly through one's hands, and it felt like his human was just... bunching it up onto his head and pulling at it in a way that wasn't... entirely what he was expecting...

ZEX squirmed a bit, and made a somewhat uncomfortable noise.

yeah, really~ ;B

Zelnick could guess why ZEX was wriggling uncomfortably-- this wasn't exactly petting or finger-combing, and it was hitting a bit of a snarl. Namely, the tangles and snarls of ZEX's hair, which were not being helped by working shampoo through it. Zelnick stepped back from ZEX's now-lathered hair and unhooking the showerhead from the wall. Good thing they were detachable, that made this easier...

Turning the water temperature from "steaming hot" to "pleasantly warm," he stepped back behind ZEX, gently tilting his head back slightly. "Close your eyes," he warned, "this stuff'll sting if it gets into them," and he began to rinse out the shampoo.

use a no-tears formula O3

So his hair's sensitivity certainly had a downside... having it pulled was very unpleasant, and at the same time somewhat reminiscient of having his head feelers pulled... an equally unpleasant sensation, but at least one that was familiar. He winced a bit and instinctually tried to move away from his Captain's hands. Definitely not what he'd been expecting.

"Ah, is this really necessary..." Punctuated with soft unhappy sounds. "It, ah... if you could..."

He did say to close his eyes, and the most primal protective instinct for a VUX was to protect the eye. He closed them immediately as he directed, and then nearly yelped in surprise at the sudden sensation of water, much closer and stronger than he expected. This human skin was a blessing and a curse, he could practically feel every droplet impacting, and his human's fingers ran through it and scratched against him, and...

ZEX made a strained, thin sound, and again almost instinctually tried to move away a little.

ZEX obviously wasn't enjoying this, and Zelnick paused, feeling a bit sorry for him.

After a moment of hesitation, he softly and self-conciously pet ZEX's hair. "It is kinda a mess," he said, tone a tentative sort of kind-- it wasn't ZEX's fault he had no idea how to take care of his human body, after all. "That should've rinsed out most of the grime, though, and conditioner will make it easier to brush." Zelnick somewhat suspected that "easier" would still be "not very easy," but with a comb and some patience... "I don't suppose anyone's shown you how to brush your hair?" He continued petting ZEX's hair soothingly, trying to ignore the weirdness of doing so when ZEX's distress was over getting his hair washed, not an identity crisis or having fallen before a fairly minor enemy or something.

ZEX was still wincing, all the muscles in his face tightening in a way that was unusual enough without the added sensation of water pounding into his head. How did humans survive with skin like this, rain must have been unbearable...

He almost missed the softer touch at first, in comparison to the intensity of the water, but he certainly welcomed it. That at least felt a little familiar, and definitely preferable, even if his scalp felt raw and sensitive.

"I don't know anything about human hair... I thought it took care of itself. I didn't know it took so much... effort to clean." ZEX leaned into his touch, and then stiffened a bit. "Is it not over? What's 'conditioner'?" That was an odd word structure... he couldn't figure out anything from it that told him what it was or what it entailed. He couldn't say he was looking forward to more of the experience, but that wasn't something he felt entirely comfortable explaining... surely to a human, this kind of thing was common and unremarkable, and definitely not worth complaint or discomfort. He sighed a bit. "If you think it's necessary..."

ZEX did, however, very much appreciate more gentle touches, even if his scalp still felt overstimulated at the moment. "What do you mean, brush?"

[aaargh sorry for the slow post I kinda fell asleep XD;; ]

[identity profile] captain-hunam.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well, it does, a bit." Zelnick couldn't help but still feel a bit bad about ZEX's bewilderment. "Conditioner's basically to make your hair smoother and softer-- as said, easier to brush, and more healthy in general. And it doesn't need to be lathered like the shampoo did, since it's not meant to clean the hair." Which meant "yeah, necessary."

Of course. Zelnick sighed quietly at the question, considering how to answer-- he didn't exactly have to explain these sorts of things every day-- as he turned away, putting the showerhead back into its hook on the wall and getting a palmfull of conditioner from the dispenser.

"Brush. Right." Rather more gently than he had with the shampoo, he began rubbing the conditioner into ZEX's hair, using some of the same gentle petting motions as before. "Using something with closely-spaced blunt prongs or bristles, run through the hair, to get rid of tangles and to smooth the hair out... It also helps to keep hair cleaner between washings." There, that explained it. He'd probably have to demonstrate, too, once he was done with the washing bit, but, well...

Okay, so it wasn't exactly an inevitable result of allying with a non-human in a human's body, but he'd started to get used to explaining things to ZEX. For someone so passionate about humans, it was pretty clear ZEX knew next to nothing about them.

nah i figured |3

[identity profile] wantsyourzex.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Healthy...?" ZEX still wasn't entirely enthused about the idea, considering, but his human seemed insistent... "What happens to human hair if it gets sick or damaged?"

Human hair fed him no information, and it didn't seem to have any nerves except near their roots, a far cry from his natural head tendrils. ZEX had generally assumed that hair was decoration, like a bright marking or something similiar, and not that it was alive in itself. How strange...

Although, speaking of strange, ZEX tried to visualize what his human described, or the activity that went with it, and it was... difficult. It almost sounded painful, or at least it would have been with his head feelers. But, if it felt like when his human touched his hair with his hands on previous nights, perhaps it wouldn't be so bad. He was sure his human wouldn't intentionally hurt him...

At least now his touch felt more familiar, more like the gentler, intimate touching that they'd shared before, and ZEX sighed, partly in relief. His head still felt strange, tiny nerves firing continuously and his hair felt heavy and slick which was weird in itself, but he tried to focus on his human's fingers instead.

<3 And now I'm going to be mowing the lawn! *Will continue to post slowly, joy*

[identity profile] captain-hunam.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Er..." And there stood the question, didn't it. There really wasn't much of a reason, beyond social conditioning and wanting to look good; it was just something you did.

Tentatively, and a bit uncertainly, he ventured, "Nothing particularly bad, it's just... something to avoid...? It's not like the hair itself is actually alive, except at the roots..."

Staring thoughtfully at the top of ZEX's head, he continued absentmindedly working the conditioner through his hair, automatically worrying at any snags or snarls his fingers came across.

i'm probably going to sleep soon myself really

[identity profile] wantsyourzex.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
ZEX made a vague note of his human's apparent confusion at his question, although it was hard to focus on anything other than all the sensations his body was feeding him. It seemed that some of his nerves were finally calming down, so that the softness of his human's gestures were coming through more clearly. That he liked.

"So that's why they don't give you information..." ZEX said, wincing a little at a tug at a tangle. "It's a shame... if you had our head tentacles, things would be -nmgh- much easier." And you didn't have to do this to them, either... although, sometimes the heightened sensitivity of humans did have its benefits...

Like how sometimes his human's touch made him sigh in a pleased way, although it was too infrequent for his tastes. What a strange scenario, inwardly asking for his human to be gentle with him... he often imagined the situation in reverse.

[identity profile] captain-hunam.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's not like you can't feel it if someone's touching your hair," which Zelnick really didn't think he needed to demonstrate more than he already was, "but I take it your tentacle things are more sensitive?" Wouldn't that be strange, having wriggly sensor things all over your head...

Realizing that the conditioner wasn't going to get much more into ZEX's hair, he snagged the showerhead again, taking a moment to turn down the water pressure in general and make sure it was a fairly mild temperature before rinsing ZEX's hair. (Not that he was concerned about ZEX's comfort, or anything like that, there was just... no need to make him uncomfortable, right?)

[identity profile] wantsyourzex.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course!" What a silly question. "They're mobile, useful, somewhat prehensile, help indicate mood, give you information on the air, the scents around you, any movement, water currents,... they're far more useful than human hair." ZEX sighed a little. "You certainly don't need to do such things to them, to keep them in working order. And hair doesn't move at all... it's like you're covered with dead weight. With your tiny eyes, it's a wonder you see anything around you at all..."

And how he missed his head feelers. He never realized how much he used them until they were gone. He sputtered a little when the human came back with the water again, and this time it wasn't as unpleasant, although still a bit... intense, in a way. He squirmed a little again, trying not to let the feeling get to him, but it was such an odd sensation! Like being massaged with something just slightly harsh... hmm, was his face heating a little? Odd.

"I see." So big twisty whisker-things that could smell things. That was actually kinda cool, and even if Zelnick was only a dabbler in xenobiology, it made a sort of sense for an amphibious species. There were marine Earth animals that had the same kinds of structures, after all...

Zelnick couldn't help but smile a bit at ZEX's commentary. "It's not like we can help how we evolved," he said, "and the two eyes thing is common in pretty much every Earth animal with a skeleton." There, the conditioner was mostly out of ZEX's hair, and he should probably find a comb to brush it with soon... "And one of the defining aspects of mammals is the hair-or-fur thing. We can't really change that sort of thing."

... Well, actually, they probably could, but that would be almost Umgah-like levels of genetic tampering, something he couldn't see any human scientist getting the permission and supplies for.

(Unless they were Landel. But seeing how Zelnick didn't know what Landel's actual aim was or how he was funded or, really, much of anything about the powers behind this place... yeah.)

It was strange to explain something that was so self-evident... this must be how his human felt when he explained human things to him in return. An interesting experience... while ZEX was fascinated by all forms of different life, in general he did not expect that interest to be returned... VUX were normal, after all, and how interesting could a normal thing be, compared to the extraordinary?

"Of course! I wouldn't change you for all the world. You're wonderful as you are." ZEX smiled, hoping he hadn't offended him somehow. "So delightfully different... it's fascinating to me. I just wish... I had my own body to better appreciate yours... it's so uncomfortable inhabiting something so... borrowed and unfamiliar." And inhabiting something he could barely use, and much less understand, but that didn't need to be said, he thought.

Another rush of water over sensitive skin, and he shivered a bit in response. Was he getting used to it? He wasn't sure he could say this felt nice just yet... but it didn't feel quite as strange as it did at first.
