Nightshift 33: Greenhouse Yard

[from here]

With the door shut and Toph safe for the moment, Renamon allowed herself to think again. Her body would be feeling the pain soon, as soon as she calmed down, and she needed to search the outside before it set in. She didn't see anything, but she was learning that meant nothing. And then she realized she didn't need her flashlight.

Renamon stepped further out into the night. She was instantly more relaxed. Outside in the night? She was in her natural element. She wasn't confined in a dark place with walls that felt like death. She was outside, at night, when she was the most powerful. Well, when she was a Digimon.

At that second the pain decided to set in, and she breathed in sharply. That was it. She wouldn't wear the sweatshirt anymore, not if it got caught on things and got her hurt like this. She gently peeled it off, then examined what she could of her wound. It was long and diagonal, nearly the length of her upper arm, and seemed deep. She couldn't see the bone, but it was bleeding freely. An inch, maybe. She wasn't good at determining things like this. She balled up the sweatshirt and held it to the wound tightly.

Once all that was completed, then she looked around more thoroughly.

Yohji nodded, following Omi's example and wiping the knife clean of the blood on his pants. He really didn't like how much blood they both had on them while stepping out into the unknown, but, like Omi, he didn't think they'd get a better shot at it.

"Sure," he said, readying himself to give Omi and leg up.

With Yohji's help, it wasn't hard getting to the top of the wall. He settled himself astride the wall, warily listening for anything that might signal he'd need to get down in a hurry, and just looked out at the area.

They really were in the middle of nowhere. That... made things considerably more difficult.

On the other hand, the immediate vicinity looked safe enough. Certainly safer than being a sitting duck on top of a wall. "Looks clear." He tossed a grin down at Yohji as he flicked the flashlight off and gathered himself on top of the wall. "Catch you on the other side, Yohji-kun."

And he dropped down outside the wall.

Yohji returned the grin with one of his own and then watched as Omi dropped out of view. There was no shout of warning after a couple of moments so Yohji looked up at the wall speculatively before beginning to haul himself up. His arm was screaming at him from the pain as the wound was pulled, but he managed to get to the top.
