Nightshift 33: F-A Block Hallway
[Coming from here.]
Max didn't slow down or even pause to look around her as she slipped out of her hall and headed onwards, a determined expression on her face. If anything was stupid enough to pick a fight with her right now, she'd be more than happy to oblige it.

"It's Toph." The girl paused thoughtfully while trying to regain her bearings. "Renamon, you say? I've never heard of that name before." Normally, she wouldn't remark on such a trivial matter, but Toph had the tendency to babble when nervous.

She continued looking at the girl for a moment. "Would you like to accompany me tonight? I can protect you to a degree, if you require it." She hadn't forgotten the confident stance. Though she did wonder... "How long have you been here?" So far three days was tops for the people she met in person. The thought of any person or child, being in this place longer strengthened her resolve.
And she hadn't forgotten the intercom announcement. Not at all. She tensed slightly, alert for what was hidden in the dark.

"I don't need any protection," she cut in, without meaning to. People who offered to help often triggered a knee-jerk reaction. If it was not for the prospect of those voices returning, Toph might have brushed off the lady altogether.
Good thing for that fear, then. "But I wouldn't mind tagging along," the child continued. "I arrived yesterday. It's been kind of crazy trying to figure out what's going on." The admittance did not come out easy, but Renamon sounded like she would understand. At least, she had a better idea of the place than Toph did, and that would prove beneficial in the long run.
Though, the flutters from Renamon did not feel particularly encouraging. Could she have caught those voices as well?

She left the hall, trusting that the girl would follow. If not, she wasn't as smart as Renamon thought.
