Nightshift 32: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[From here.]

For all the hype he heard up on the bulletin, Sync had to say he was somewhat disappointed with how dull these halls have been. Maybe these ‘monsters’ only attacked when there was less traffic around, but his guess was as good as anyone’s.

Regardless, even if he did keep to one side of the wall, the God-General was anything but impressed. He’d barely seen anyone, and the only person he did see was some guy limping around on crutches! How pathetic could they all possibly be?

He didn’t bother to hold back a snort, keeping straight until he disappeared around a corner.

Finally, she was out of the rooms. Shion grinned to herself and peered around once again, eyes taking in her surroundings as she allowed her ego to inflate.

Okay, time to figure out what to do. Moving slowly, the teenager thought to herself – if she wanted to get out to at least see where she was, the first thing she’d have to do was look for the entrance. An exit would do as well, but at least it appeared as if she were close to the entrance, so that would be the right course of action, most likely.

Sounded like a plan. Shion quickened her steps as she moved down the hallway, looking for any signs of the entrance that she could find.

Another hallway. More darkness. She flashed the light, down and only for a second to get her bearings. She needed to go to the right, and the open space it seemed to hold. Then she would camp there to wait for Toboe.

She moved quickly.

Clark continued on, keeping a firm grip on his flashlight, the other on his batteries. He didn't hear anything coming at him, but that didn't mean he couldn't be sneaked up on. If he remembered correctly, he just had to go a bit further to the hit the main hall, where it'd branch out and become that more wide open.

It was always so dark. So dark, that it was almost too bright. It was hard to see Landel's in the day, but in the night it lay bare before anyone with eyes and ears and a brain to see. River followed her path, balanced precariously on her tightrope as she walked on.

Just a bit longer now.

Scar moved from one hallway into the next. These halls were always rather dull, though he couldn't decide whether to be glad with this little fact or not. From what he had seen, the nightly abominations that roamed around the facility were anything but pleasant to run into. Especially if now he were on his own.

Another dark hallway, but this time someone was in it. She continued to tip-toe, her skin almost blending into the walls-- an illusion shattered by the gray outfit (she tried, okay?). After seeing he was a normal man and wondering just why she started believing this whole 'monster' thing in the first place, Esmeralda walked up to him with a comforting smile.

"Hey," she whispered. "Do you know your way around here? I thought maybe you could help me look for the Music Room. Or at least point it out? I'm not so used to being shown around."

Still an amazing dearth of people walking around. There were some, but this was stupid. Did all these people just sit around and do nothing all night? Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Or maybe they were faster than her. Which wasn't possible. ..Granted, she was only jogging. Which was easier than she'd thought it'd be. Then again, Alkaid spent ninety percent of her PC life running around, and she didn't really eat that much Caramel Sauce at all.

The halls were kind of spooky, though, she had to admit.

This was the way the nurse had led her today, wasn't it? She wondered what kind of 'supplies' there were down here. Might as well continue on her little trip, right? And - and she didn't need anyone, no matter how creepy this was, right?

Lia breathed a sigh of relief as she entered the next hallway. While it was by no stretch of the imagination bright, the gleam of lights held by the other patients bound on their own explorations gave her straining eyes enough to pick out vague shapes by. She reiterated her promise to herself, that she would ask someone about possible light sources before setting out the following evening.

Her mind offered up a faintly cynical clarification. She would ask someone about light sources provided nothing ate her before she had the chance.

CLaire continued on her way, pausing as she stepped into a larger corridor. She glanced to her right and to her left. She'd come from the right earlier, and she knew that led off to the main part of the building. The left seemed to stretch off farther than her flashlight beam could illuminate, and she debated for a moment before deciding to stick with familiar paths for the time being.

Turning to her right, she moved into the next hall.

Melissa couldn't help a small feeling of satisfaction as she opened the door to find herself in a familiar hallway. She quickly pushed it down, focusing on where she was going.

Melissa wasn't even really sure where she was headed or what she was trying to find. She studied herself as she walked carefully through the dark. Maybe the mindcaster was just stalling for time until the midnight hour hit, when everything else would freeze and she could finally get some answers in peace.

The medley in her head was increasing, and Melissa found herself automatically pressing her hands over her ears as she tried not to touch anyone, even though the action didn't help whatsoever. What she wouldn't give for some loud rock music right about now...

Only one hall away, if Seiya remembered correctly. That was assuming he'd be there, of course. Well... she'd travelled quickly enough, not stopping to speak with anyone or gawk at anything. If he wasn't there, she'd wait a little while, then move on alone. The idea wasn't exactly pleasant, but she knew how to be careful if she needed to, how to avoid a fight.

Even how to let other people fight while she breezed past as though she didn't see a thing. It didn't leave a good taste in her mouth, but she couldn't afford to be responsible for all the people of this place. She was already responsible for too much, as it was. Besides, Usagi had said most of the people here had some sort of powers of their own. Just stay quiet and out of the way, let others clear a path... she'd fight if she had to, but she'd just as soon not lose some of her own body parts on her first night here. Usagi had survived intact without the help of Sailor Moon, she could make do without Fighter.

Archer took a look around. The coast looked clear. Soon this little journey would be over, and Archer could pass Brook off to his friends. Then he could return to the meeting place.

[identity profile] promisedawhale.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well yes, of course the map was a big help, but regardless...! "You still seem to be accustomed to this place. Have you been here for a while? M-met any, ah, monsters?" No matter how much he tried not to think on it, the subject just kept coming back to Brook's mind. There were monsters here! Somewhere! They'd probably just been lucky so far and Archer wasn't saying anything to keep him from worrying!

[identity profile] manhattan-red.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 05:12 am (UTC)(link)

The gargoyle wondered if the front hall would be crowded at this point in the evening. It was a good meeting spot for sure, not as common a spot for monsters as the rec field. Most groups didn't stand around for long, though, so it probably wouldn't be too difficult to catch sight of Peter if he was there.

[identity profile] accursed-rock.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Zelgadis had avoided any confrontations after his dull, if nice and quiet dinner. Now he waited in the upper hall, hoping he could find Amelia before she wandered too far.

Maybe he would find this mysterious person as well. Anything was fine with Zelgadis as long as it didn't involve monsters or blonde girls with pigtails.

[identity profile] pacifistcrush.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)

Amelia didn't have to wander far. The moment she stepped into the next hall with her Lighting spell overhead, the princess immediately spotted the very man she was looking for. Her face lit up, and she gave a big wave.

"Mr. Zelgadis!" the princess called. She was going to stay optimistic and keep on hoping that he was willing to drop the subject from earlier that day. Bounding over to her friend, Amelia looked up at him and smiled. "Where should we go tonight?"

Another hallway and, guess what, plenty of people, no danger. What was everyone here so worked up about?

The only thing he was at all worried about was running into someone else or a wall or something. He could see well enough out of his good eye, but in the darkness he was as good as blind in his right eye. Just another thing to thank Peter for. Or, according to him, an alien. It admittedly was easier to hate some faceless alien - that had apparently been the one to stab him, too - than to go back to hating Peter. All the same, it was hard not to feel a bit resentful as he moved carefully through the night, keeping his right side near the wall whenever possible.

Shana kept moving, winding her way through the connecting corridors and heading towards the main hallway that ran the length of the building. She hoped she'd get some more exploring done tonight and find the supplies she needed to craft a bow. She'd feel more comfortable with her weapon of choice in her hand.

Barely even pausing in her pace, she turned right again, heading out of this hall and into the next.

Elle glanced around, shining her flashlight down the hallway in both directions. Which way to the file room, now?

Pressing herself up against the wall, she took the map out and perused it, holding the beam of her flashlight close to the paper. Her eyes narrowed in concentration. The main hallway probably had a lot of traffic, and knowing Sylar he would avoid that sort of thing. But maybe he'd had the same thought she had, about the patient files.

Oh well. Files or Sylar... The sure bet of the files won out against the vague chance of bumping into Sylar. "File room it is," she mumbled quietly to herself.

It was just like one of those collection quests that they had in the dungeon areas; as he ground his way through the hallways, he found it just as dull and monotonous to the point as those kind of quests. The only difference between that and the present situation being he didn't know what he was supposed to be looking for. The most logical strategy right now was to check as many rooms as possible that were located close to his room, and as the days pressed onward he'd fan out to check rooms that were located further away. Unless there was something intriguing he heard about some other room that would require making it a priority to visit, anyway.

Haseo had, by this time, begun to blatantly ignore the sound his feet made against the floor as he proceeded onward down the hall. Even stranger was the fact that he didn't find his own out-loud commentary a bother. It came as a habit to speak his thoughts in order to work out his next move. "There should be a room coming up soon.." Alternating between checking his map and looking around to correlate the area with the picture equivalent, Haseo paused when he saw a figure a little ways ahead in the hallway.

Another person on this wild goose-chase?

Okay... let's see. The sword-maker hadn't ever gotten back to her, so maybe he'd changed his mind and didn't want to blow things up after all. "Now I'm even being sarcastic to myself," Anya mumbled, rather sarcastically. "What are the Scoobies doing without me? They've got no one to be snide about their plans." Not that she'd been in the thick of things since the 'wedding' but trapped in here she couldn't even offer criticism from the sidelines.

So no sword-maker meant meeting Angel. He'd said bathrooms, right? Men's bathrooms furthest to the left of the... What? Anya pulled her map out. Oh, he must mean those men's bathrooms. What was he doing in there?

A quick swipe of the flashlight's beam left and right and she turned to her right, continuing to follow the general flow of energy and people. This place was spooky, sure, and she could maybe sort of see what Clark had been talking about, but it wasn't so bad, yet. Just dark, and really, why should anyone who spent most of their time in the blackness of space fear a little darkness?

There were people milling in the hallway outside the F block, which was an extra nuisance, but when they grouped together and focussed on their companions like that, it left plenty of openings to sneak right on past.

Even if there was an unnatural source of light in the hall, but Aidou just focussed on the task at hand, and didn't acknowledge the source. Rima wasn't here, and so he wasn't interested.

He only stayed a short time in this hallway as the door was quickly upon him, this time at the left - his first of the night. This would be his first time in the female block, and he honestly didn't know what to expect, but he knew whatever different there may have been in comparison with the male blocks, he would still be faced with searching through all of the rooms until he found the Princess.

This corridor too smelled of food. All of the scents of humans and not-humans were beginning to blend together into one giant scent of 'food', making her mouth water. A kitty would be good maybe, like the nekomata had been, enough juicy flesh to staisfy her for a while. Maybe she could find a corpse around and drag it back to the room, even if it would go bad if she tried to store it. But no, outside would be a good bet. More dark corners. Momo lead Hokuto and Willow into the hallway. A quick look around showed Archer waiting, a sword at his side, and the shinigami moved directly toward him.

"Archer-san," she started, her voice quiet and her expression still pensive and withdrawn. "There has been a change in tonight's mission. We must move quickly, so listen as we move."

The shinigami started down the hallway toward the rec field. "Signum-kun was taken by our captors tonight and I need you to take command of her team and lead them into the basement while we see to Signum," she stated as she walked.
