Nightshift 32: M-C Block Hallway
[From here.]
Meandering about like this was really just a waste of his time, but Sync strove forward anyway with that same bored expression as he made his way into the next area.
It was true that he wanted to explore outside and examine any weak spots for escape, yet it wasn’t on the top of his list of things to do. No, instead he was more curious about what ludicrous lives the staff plastered on top of them. The God-General was used to shadowing his own identity, so it was interesting from his point to see what they’ve managed to conjure up in their spare time.
Call it an acquired taste.
He followed the wall from the time he entered the room, allowing the tips of his fingers to run along the surface before he exited into another hallway.

Danny really didn't know what he planned on doing tonight. But at least he realized he was being pretty stupid for wandering out with no one else. He'd never been attacked in the halls, though, so he figured it was one of the safer areas (but still not entirely safe).
Maybe he'd run into someone who also needed someone around them. That was what happened with him and Bridget a while ago, after all. Who knew what would happen if he ran into another giant bird? He certainly didn't want to go looking for one.

Scar eventually reached the next hallway. His feline eyes spotted one patient a little further away. If length was anything to go by, this particular person only seemed to be a child, thus more of an nuisance than good help. He moved on.

Looks like everything was okay so far. It appeared that not too many people had left their rooms yet. Keeping his flashlight low, Archer moved towards the next hallway.

Tyler slipped out into the adjoining hall and paused to make sure the way was safe before continuing onwards.

The hallways weren't too crowded yet, though that shouldn't last long. Looking around, he saw the outline of what looked like a young man. Something about him seemed even younger than Sasuke, although it was hard to judge in the light. And the light was odd... he'd swear the kid was glowing a little.
But that could just as easily have been a trick of the light too. At any rate, the boy didn't seem to be a monster waiting to attack, either through direct assault or subterfuge, and so Mark walked on. It wasn't too far to his destination, this evening. He could only hope their route would be as clear as the previous night.

The hallways were surprisingly empty, though whether or not that was a good thing was debatable. Normally, the fact that he couldn't hear anything was enough assurance that nothing was there, but he wasn't so sure how much of his senses he could trust anymore.
Reaching the door that led to the bathroom, he tested the knob, expecting it to be locked. Instead, the door swung in easily. Huh. He'd been under the impression everything was pretty much locked at night.

Harry switched on his flashlight as he entered the hall, grateful Peter had told him to bring it. Even though his vision was enhanced it was impossible to see anything clearly without the meager light it provided.
It seemed there were a number of other people wandering around already, indicating that all the patients here were allowed free reign of the institute at night. He wondered what exactly happened to the staff during the night. Did they allow this? He vaguely remembered Omi saying something about the staff being rather forceful when it came to patients being out at night but Harry couldn't remember if he had explained what that meant or not.
Whatever the case, Peter had thought he would be able to reach him in front of the Sun Room easily enough, so he probably didn't have anything to worry about. Looking around, he attempted to get his bearings. Finding his way around the institute at night, when it was pitch black was going to be a lot more difficult than he'd initially thought. He was certain that Peter would wait for him as long as it took, however.

The tension of walking out into the darkened halls of Landel's eased up a bit. This was still familiar territory. He'd never seen any monsters in these halls, though he knew he shouldn't take anything for granted.

And now Fayt had a problem. Albel had told him what room he was in, which was helpful considering how many rooms there probably were in the asylum, but now he had to find it. The patient blocks were all probably on the first floor and all group together, if only for convenience, so that wasn't too big of a deal... Fayt frowned and turned the beam of his flashlight towards the hall to his right. M90... He had just come from M94 and he was standing next to M100 so... the room numbers decreased the further down the hall you went.
So, if the layout of that hall matched the one he had just come out of, there was no way Albel's room was in this block. Great. Fayt sighed and began walking in the opposite direction, this was going to be a fun night.

Xelloss kept an eye on his map as he walked. He did hope he remembered the right room number--after all, it'd be terribly embarrassing to walk in on two people who wanted to be alone in the dark. Stealing from the possibly-empty rooms was not a very wise idea, if the chance offered itself, considering the possible consequences with the patient population if he were caught. So if it were the wrong room, yet unoccupied, he'd simply have to try another room, or find some other way to spend his evening. And would there be consequences for his actions tonight...? But why should there be? They were two consenting adults, both in bodies of the same species, even.

Nothing in particular in this hall. Well, there was the door. Haseo looked down at the paper map provided, and back up at the exit to the hallway. "So those little square things are the doorways." Not that he couldn't figure out as much before, but it was a good idea to try and get the gist of what every little thing on the map meant. There were usually indicator maps when he went on a quest that were filled in as he went along, sometimes the symbols differed. It was a good thing to watch out for, in any case, especially when doing a solo mission. Haseo proceeded onward and outward.

He really hoped nothing attacked him. Archer wasn't in the mood.

The corridor at the end of the rooms blocks was empty when he stepped into it, but he frowned a little. Something was off. He flicked on the torch for a few seconds, eyes widening at the change in appearance. Dirty and dark now, rather than the pristine cleanliness of the daytime. Things really were strange here. It worried him.
He switched the torch back off, and rested his hand against one wall to guide him towards the door that would lead out into the main corridor. The darkness was something that he was used to. Nothing could really compare to the blackness of space when you were all alone, even when you were in a Gundam with so much power at your fingertips. This darkness though had a different feel, like it was concealing things, watching him as he moved like a scared child.

There was little of interest in this hallway, Phibrizzo decided after a moment of taking in the surroundings. It would be more fruitful to move to a more populated area before he tried anything fun.

Was it just him, or was his scramble toward Yukari's room more of a leisurely walk? Considering the items in his hands, Ken supposed the delay was understandable, if just a tad annoying.
Fumbling once with his equipment, the boy managed to open the door out of the male block and step into the next hall.

Anya stepped out into the hallway and glanced around. "So we have to walk all the way back to the women's rooms, right?" she grumbled, a bit annoyed by that.
"And how do you know this girl is trustworthy? Are you sure she won't take the pipes and then beat you over the head with them until your brain is a small but difficult to wash floor-stain? That would be unfortunate - brains do not come out of pretty much any substance, no matter how hard you scrub."

Angel paused a second before answering. He did trust Skuld on an instinctive level, but actually, considering he knew next to nothing about her, logically speaking—
"Not really, no," he replied casually, before starting down the hall. "C'mon."

He considered falling back to lift a torch from somewhere; that was when the one presumed to be dead sputtered to life, shining a weak ray across the hall. Dean's eyebrows traveled aloft, and he shook his head in wonder as he pushed forward.
Maybe Sam had shared his older brother's thoughts about Landel's announcement. What if he'd chosen to act on his suspicions by leaving without him?
Dean couldn't stop the sullen look spreading over his face. There wasn't time for this. They might've screwed with his head, but since when did that permit the other man to stand in for him? What were they now, a tag team?

Iroh's soft footsteps echoed in the hallway. He shone his light into the corners, but saw nothing. Silence pressed around him, suffocating.
All his muscles tensed, loosened with every step. "Is anyone here?" he asked softly, though he was not unhappy when no one answered. Standing in a hallway that led to more smaller halls identical to the one he'd come from, he began to feel more unease settle in his stomach. All the walls looked the same; they were so manufactured, not organic. He might wander around all night and be lost, at least until the sun came up--if the endless hallways didn't swallow him up first.

There were voices not too far away, but shining his light around in this hall revealed that he was alone for now. This was definitely someone's idea of a freakfest, turning off all the lights and unlocking the doors at once like that. Straight out of a horror game, and terribly cliché.
Matt knew better than to start asking the darkness if anyone was there. The last thing he wanted to do was attract attention. For now, he was simply going to listen to whatever he could hear the hall over, keeping his own room close enough that he could dash to it if need be.

Aidou wasn't stupid. Depending on how one argued, prowling like this was more detrimental to him than the alternative. Still, when it came down to it, scary a few humans without actually harming them was better than taking blood handouts like a dependent pet. When he thought of it like that, Kiryu always came to mind, and that wouldn't ever be him.
So the young vampire slipped inside the cell block, through the open door left open by dozens of passing people. In comparison to the previous halls, the corridor was practically abandoned... Except for one. A male? Not a boy, but not an adult... If judging by looks alone, not really his type at all. But he was thin (and weak builds often only hid strength when it came to vampires), unarmed, and alone. And another fairly new face.
Keeping his distance, Aidou circled like a noiseless predator, putting himself into a position to attack.
He liked routine, but he also knew it was bad to fall into when it came to staying ahead of the 'law'. Another crude blow to a back of a neck was just asking for trouble. But tonight he didn't have much choice, as usual. Not unless he stayed his hand and used more delicate powers instead--the only problem with that approach was that freezing the blood in a human's veins was good for killing, not getting a good meal, and the rest of his abilities were severely weakened or gone. Almost a full minute went by. He didn't have the patience for a lure, and although he loathed to admit it sometimes, brute force coupled with surprise was effective more often than not. Especially in keeping his identity to himself.
It was a good thing that Aidou wasn't the type to hesitate once he made a decision. When he finally lunged at the guy from behind, he did so with the full intent to incapacitate the other male so he could feed in peace.

He swayed only a moment before going limp, fully unconscious for the time being, and free to be anyone's prey.

It wasn't like Aidou was professional at this sort of stuff, either. Unsure of the best way to get a grip on the unconscious body--and Aidou needed to find an empty room, damn it--he just held Matt high enough off the floor that his dangling appendages didn't drag.

Well, all things considered, Aidou figured there was going to be a big fuss on the bulletin board the next day. Two vampire attacks in one night, occurring in the same way, was either going to make do-gooders dislike Aidou's image more, or lead them to suspect two vampires were afoot. Either way, Aidou wished they would all shut up.
He still hadn't gotten any closer to finding out about Akatsuki, nor if Abarai's little soul search meant his cousin was still here, or if there were more freak bloodsuckers like Alucard around.
And if there were, a few people must know their faces and names and be donating willingly. How else could they be getting blood?
Careful to search out any prying eyes before they found him, Aidou slipped out the way he'd come, wanting to put distance between him and the cell blocks.

His flashlight was still on, laying on the floor. Cursing inwardly, he bent to pick it up. Matt hoped he hadn't been out for too long, as any use would be draining the batteries. He only had one spare set. Mello would likely know how to get extras, but he couldn't rely on that just yet.
He didn't want to pause too long in this hallway. Who could say whether or not those attacks were a frequent thing? It was tempting to swing the light around wildly in search of the culprit, but that would probably be a fruitless use of his time. No, he was just going to do what he set out to do and head back.
Without waiting any longer, Matt took a few quick strides towards the bathrooms.

There was no pause this time. Straight back to his room he went. No passing go or collecting two hundred dollars as the saying was. He hadn't been out long, but he'd had enough. Mello was going to get an earful the next day...
