Nightshift 30: M-C Block Hallway

[[from here]]

It didn't take long to scurry down the short hallway and into the main block one.  His flashlight bounced along as he went, not quite a run, not quite a walk.  He'd feel much better once he was clear of most of the people here.  At least, that's what he told himself.  The truth was, as much as it scared him to face Kurogane or the others, it scared him a lot more to think of facing the things that lurked here in the dark by himself.

Quatre heard the sounds and forgot all about the conversation about his friends. He saw the scorpion with the light of his flashlight and once again cursed his lack of weapons. He held up the beam to make sure that he could at least keep an eye on the stinger. He knew scorpions pretty well, but he had never seen one so big.

He didn't take his eyes off of it, but prepared to move quickly if it came to you. He wasn't about to just let the thing poison him.

Bridget shifted back slightly. Not in fear, but to get a better look at the creature and the surrounding area. It wouldn't be hard to get around, but it wouldn't be right to leave it for the next group of people to face...

It approached them slowly, its legs build to move along loose soil, not the hardened floors of the institute, but it could sense them. Its pincers smelled the air, smelling the young and warm flesh that seemed to have stopped in front of it. It stopped briefly itself as the light shined directly on it, then began moving forward at a faster pace.

It was still slow, easily slower than a human could sprint, but it would be upon them soon. Then it wouldn't matter.

Quatre held the light steady and glanced at Bridget. The monster might be moving slowly now, but if it were like it's smaller counterparts it's stinger could move pretty quickly. He didn't think simply running would be a good idea, but he also wasn't sure what they should do. He moved the light of the flashlight to the side, to see if the thing was actually distract it, or if it hurt it, considering that it stopped moving when the beam actually hit it. He moved to the side a bit as well, to see if it would be distracted by the movement. At first he was just trying to figure it out, to see how best it would be to either fight it or run from it.
