Night 30: Main Hallway, 1-East
[From here]
Homura had to pause for a moment when he came to the main hall, just long enough to grit his teeth against the pain. His eyes were never still, however, his guard never lowered as he lingered. One minute, two, then onward, refusing to delay any longer than absolutely necessary.
He hated being this way.

Homura had to pause for a moment when he came to the main hall, just long enough to grit his teeth against the pain. His eyes were never still, however, his guard never lowered as he lingered. One minute, two, then onward, refusing to delay any longer than absolutely necessary.
He hated being this way.

"Kuroba?" he asked in a low voice. The gloom was a bit too much for him to be sure of the identification, but he was fairly sure. "Careful. Someone's fighting over there." A slight lift of his chin indicated the direction.

It was probably still a little too early for Hattori to show up since he had to make a detour, but it was worth asking anyway.
no subject
As long as they avoided involvement in the fight -- and was it a random aggressor, or a private disagreement? He wished he could see more clearly -- they could stay here. But Hijikata had seen street fights explode into broader violence in the past. He wasn't willing to bet that things in Landel's were that different from home.
no subject
He thought about his discussion with Okita earlier. He'd suggested that Kaito might be able to 'convince' Hijikata to show him how to use a sword or better use the wooden bar, and now that they had time to kill waiting, it could have been the perfect opportunity... were it not for the fight. It would probably be best to keep an eye on it (even if it couldn't be seen very clearly from here), just in case they were forced to get involved.
no subject
That left time to fill. "What did Souji talk to you about?" he asked.
no subject
He held out the wooden bar from Hattori, inspecting it. "Also, since all you guys are swordsmen and I'm not, we talked a little about someone teaching me better swordsmanship. I did okay with this thing last night, but any sort of weapon is dangerous if you don't know how to use it right, y'know? And swinging it around like a baseball bat only goes so far."
no subject
Of all those things, there was one he hadn't heard of. "Who is the weaponsmith?"
no subject
He paused. "Of course, if I can get a weapon that shoots, it won't matter so much... but it would still be a good thing to learn in any case. The weaponsmith's name is Adelheid Bernstein; Okita-san kept refering to him as a 'weaver', which I'd guess is our code for what he does. I don't know what sorts of things he can make other than swords yet, but Okita-san indicated he might be able to make just about anything."
no subject
Perhaps there was some supernatural explanation. It would hardly surprise him anymore.
And the fight did not seem to be calming in the least.
"We should get out of here," he said in an undertone, his gaze sweeping quickly around the hallway until he spotted the nearer flight of stairs. "Let's wait on the stairs."
no subject
He glanced around, locating the nearer flight and then heading towards it cautiously. "Hope Hattori steers clear of the fight when he shows up."
no subject
He moved after Kuroba, remaining between the younger man and the battle. He could see bits of lightning sparking off some attack that one of the combatants had used. Not a simple swordfight, that. Some other power was involved, something like Homura's fire.
He moved a little faster.
no subject
Kaito sat down on the bottom step when they reached the stairs, looking back towards the fight. He couldn't, wouldn't relax as long as it was going on; he was ready to jump up at a moment's notice if it spread in their direction or if any other threat popped up.
no subject
From the tenseness in the younger man's posture, though, he didn't need to tell Kuroba to be ready to flee. He wondered how many fights the boy had been in to have developed those reflexes.
no subject
"Hey, sorry!" Heiji panted, running up to both Hijikata and Kaito out of the darkness. Just in case, he had his pipe in hand... he wasn't going to get caught unawares by anyone again. "Homura and I... took longer than expected."
The detective frowned at the thought. Unbeknown to him, he had a rather telling slash and matching bloodstain on the bandages around his neck. Bastard was a nut job for sure.
"But let's get goin', yeah?" He grinned, "I'm all set for action!"
no subject
"You look better," he said, hopping up from the step. Running was definitely a good sign, especially considering he'd had trouble walking last night.
The dark spot on the bandages around the detective's neck caught his eye. "Run into any trouble on the way?"
Apart from the blood, Hattori didn't exactly seem worse for the wear, so whatever had happened to delay him and Homura couldn't have been too bad... Of course, Homura could have been the trouble. He and the demi-god had barely spoken at breakfast, but who knew what would've happened if it weren't for the riot?
no subject
There was no reason to waste time on speculation -- or on conversation. Hijikata started up the stairs, a wary eye lingering on that fight.
"Let's go," he said gruffly to the two teenagers. "We can talk on the way."
