Nightshift 30: M-A Block Hallway

[from here]
Renji paused just long enough to open the door into the first M-block, then ran in, leaving it open behind him. He headed toward the last hallway.

He did switch his flashlight on now, though.

...just in case there was another spider. And no Daemon. In which case he would do more than punch the shit out of the man when he got to him.

As Alec roamed the hallways in search of more giant bugs to smash, he happened upon Javert. He didn't notice at first, because his brain had simply blocked the Frenchman out of his mind due to the situationally improbable clothes he was wearing. Then again, he realized as he did a double-take, he couldn't have been the only person who got his own clothes back, could he?

"Hello, Inspector," he said, turning the gilded key over in his hand thoughtfully. His brain raced for a smart remark before finally settling on "Nice outfit. Is there any point to wearing a waistcoat and cravat in here? It's not as if the monsters will care if you're looking nice."

He'd blame the quality of that remark on the drugs. Yeah.

Oh, wonderful. As if the day - or, for that matter, night - could possibly have gotten any worse.

Trevelyan, it seemed, had also gotten his clothing back, though Javert hadn't the faintest idea what it was the man was wearing. He narrowed his eyes slightly; loath as he was to admit it to himself, the man's words had stung his pride ever so slightly. The truth of the matter was, of course, that what little familiarity his clothing provided was more than welcome in a hellhole like this one, but he'd rather face a hundred undead cats than admit that to a smug bastard like Trevelyan.

"It offers considerably more protection than the clothing the institute provides us," he said, with a hint of irritation in his voice. "I could ask the same of whatever it is you're wearing."

Even though he still felt like his head was full of sand, Trevelyan still caught the narrowing of Javert's eyes. Good. Let him get pissed off. It wasn't like what the Inspector was wearing was all that practical, anyway.

Unlike, of course, what he was wearing. "Simple," he said, a smug grin on his face. "It's comfortable, dark, built for stealth, and has more pockets than anyone could ever possibly want or need." Truth be told, he really did feel better in these clothes rather than the ones provided for him. Even if his head was full of sand.

How much sedative did they shoot him up with, anyway?

"I'm certain the creatures out in the halls will be able to find you anyway," said Javert, turning back toward the door. "Good evening, M. Trevelyan."

He didn't have time for this tonight. Leon and Kagura would be waiting.
