Day 30: Music Room (Third Shift)

The last intercom had spelled out everything.

Misbehavior. Someone had started a riot - quickly quelled from the sounds of it. He didn't want to say it was good thing he'd be stabbed, but from the looks of it, it was probably best he was absent from whatever shift this had happened during. The warning siren, and all of the habub about it; blood had probably been spilled. In his current condition, he might have been tempted.

Well, there was no might in that. He would've been.

Despite protests from his nurse as well as his own body, Edward politely asked for an escort to the music room, wanting nothing more than to get out of his little cell. The cream-colored music room was quiet, spacious, and had plenty of seating.

He was surprised to see it empty this time, and made no hesitation in moving to sit at the large keyboard. It was no parlor grand, but it was accessable. Couldn't really complain about it.

Edward sat for a moment, lost in his memories. It had been a while since he had played anything... something old sounded satisfactory. Maybe a song from his childhood? Popular song, maybe. Gus Edwards?

Nodding to himself, he let his fingers settle against the keys, keeping his back straight for the hole in his chest. Without an entrance, his fingers began dancing along the keys to the tune of By the Light of the Silvery Moon. A quirky little tune, but a personal favorite.

She'd asked him if he was part of a war so what was wrong with asking further questions about it? That question had been pretty normal, she'd though, especially after she'd covered her little bout of excitement with a believable story.

Staring right back a moment, she tried a little at reading his heart, but got nothing. It was so hard with him. Not only could she not read his inward emotions, but he showed none outwardly either. She didn't know if that was possible for a human, even if he was part of a military, but she didn't like it very much. Not knowing her enemy/playthings/whatever was not fun.

"Ok, so can we play that then?" she asked. "Basketball?" It sounded fun, even if she'd "misunderstood" him earlier. In her mind there were decapitated heads and killing machines playing out the game, but she could play the basic human form of the game to learn. She'd use the knowledge to make the game her mind was creating become a reality once she got back home.

"Basketball?" Sousuke repeated, frowning slightly. "In this room?" The sergeant shook his head, "It's too small. And we don't have a ball to play with."

Plus, Sousuke versus a tiny girl like Rhode wouldn't have been much of a challenge. He didn't know how to hold back without letting her have the ball, and crushing her easily would just frustrate her. Children were so difficult to consider sometimes.

"If you want to play a game, perhaps the Game Room would be a better place to go?" Sousuke suggested. It sounded cold, but he meant well.

"Oh, so you need a lot of room for it!" Which made sense really. Balls and giant killing machines would need a good deal of room. She'd have just needed her mind to think up a dimension, but she couldn't do that here.

She debated his suggestion a bit, but wound up with her thoughts interrupted by her nurse. Apparently it was time to change rooms. Maybe she'd be going to the Game Room next like he'd said. "Bye bye, Sagara~" she waved playfully back at him before skipping off with the nurse.

That had gone well.

"Yes, you need a space that's relatively wide-open and free of obstacles. The ground has to be somewhat hard, otherwise the ball won't bounce correctly, and--"

The nurses bustled over to end their conversation. He frowned slightly, a little upset that he hadn't gotten a chance to listen to more music.

"Stay safe, Rhode-san," Sousuke called with a small, meek wave.
