Day 30: Cafeteria, Breakfast

Hitsugaya woke with a start.

His entire body ached, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it had been the night before. His injuries had been tended two with clean gauze and bandages, and he found every movement wasn't agony. He wasn't in the best of shape, but thanks to the miracle of landel's strange time distortion, he had mostly recovered from the vile poison without having to waste anyone else's talents.

And in his hand, still...there was the key.

He dressed quickly, sliding the key onto the key ring from his desk drawer and stuck it into his pocket. Whether the key stood to gain them anything or not, it stood as a vital reminder that they could succeed in this place. There was hope, as insignificant as it often seemed. They could beat this place.

That small shred of hope made getting up worth it.

The nurse who escorted him to breakfast was cheerful, and commented idly about how wonderful it was to see young Tommy Winters up and about again after his unfortunate run-in with a bad case of food poisoning. He smirked slightly, knowing that any lies the institute forced into their heads were only that: lies. He wouldn't buy it for a second. And on top of that, the concept of muffins sounded almost appetizing. While he still preferred his authentic Japanese cuisine, the food here was slowly becoming more and more bearable. He would have preferred a warm bowl of sweet nattou over rice over the mufffins, but they would do. The plain yogurt and fruit, on the other hand, was excellent. He piled his plate high with fruit as usual, and got several small bowls of yogurt as well.

Finding the most convenient table to the end of the food line, he took a seat and scanned for the new arrivals. New arrivals meant people who would be lost and confused. Renji did a good job of making a bulliten post last time...he should recommend abarai-fukutaicho do the same again this time.

Cliff was right, Fayt thought, fighting back what must have been the hundredth sigh that day. There were times when he did need to just keep his mouth shut. The young man ran a hand through his hair, a small frown forming on his face. Technically, the UP3 had already been bent and broken out of shape long since Elicoor II, but that still didn't mean he couldn't accidentally influence the events that would take place here...

And considering this was supposed to be Earth, there was the very big possibility that he could pretty much ruin everything. But that was to say it was Earth... If it wasn't and this was just the Creator messing with them (which would explain why Maria or Sohpia were nowhere to be found, they were the ones who made getting to the 4D world possible) then...

This was more difficult than it should be. If he didn't get involved in any of the events and didn't reveal too much he should have been fine. ...Right? Fayt shook his head and, after a long moment replied,

"Well... Based on what you're saying, I'm eight hundred and-" he did the math in his head. "-Eighty three years ahead of you..." That should go over well.

Eight hundred years should've provoked much more of a audible and visual reaction out of the rogue, but all Haseo could honestly muster was a blank stare in Fayt's direction. There was a profound difference between a decade that the last person had differed by, and a few hundred years that Fayt seemed to differ from his own time. After a second or to he tacked on a verbal notation to his thoughts: "...Huh." Over Eight hundred years in the future. Though he wanted to pry further and see if he could recall ever hearing something about the network crisis at that point he didn't think it even mattered. How much did he himself know about eight hundred years before his time? That was assuming that this person was from that time period at all.

It might've seemed a little curt of him to say, but since there was a gap in profound thought he voiced the next string of words that came to mind. "You know," the tone with which he spoke wasn't too very sarcastic but laced with unbelief all the same, "the more I listen to people around here, the more I'm convinced this deserves to be a mental institution. Everything that everyone has said to me sounds completely nuts."

Fayt would have bristled if he wasn't already expecting that sort of reaction already. After all, he wasn't the one going around telling people that monsters were running around in this place on top of saying that they were also almost a century in the past.

Then again, Fayt had heard worse, so he wasn't quite so sure anymore. Maybe he was crazy. The boy sighed and opened his mouth to respond before the sound of fighting caused him to look up quickly. What was going on?!

It seemed like right on cue that as soon as he mentioned the place being insane that things had to get even weirder. People in the same room because fighting amongst themselves, Voices were raised and all Haseo could do was look in the general direction of the noise in bewilderment. A battle had started between some of the people up front. People began running up to join in or even fight amongst the other people in white who weren't even involved. "What in the--" The rogue remained generally seated as the incident began to unravel itself, and merely tossed a confused look to Fayt shortly after. The incident happening in such an emphemeral fashion didn't provide him with an ample amount of time to think of joining in or not; a nurse came slowly after and beckoned he leave the room.
