Day 30: Cafeteria, Breakfast

Hitsugaya woke with a start.

His entire body ached, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it had been the night before. His injuries had been tended two with clean gauze and bandages, and he found every movement wasn't agony. He wasn't in the best of shape, but thanks to the miracle of landel's strange time distortion, he had mostly recovered from the vile poison without having to waste anyone else's talents.

And in his hand, still...there was the key.

He dressed quickly, sliding the key onto the key ring from his desk drawer and stuck it into his pocket. Whether the key stood to gain them anything or not, it stood as a vital reminder that they could succeed in this place. There was hope, as insignificant as it often seemed. They could beat this place.

That small shred of hope made getting up worth it.

The nurse who escorted him to breakfast was cheerful, and commented idly about how wonderful it was to see young Tommy Winters up and about again after his unfortunate run-in with a bad case of food poisoning. He smirked slightly, knowing that any lies the institute forced into their heads were only that: lies. He wouldn't buy it for a second. And on top of that, the concept of muffins sounded almost appetizing. While he still preferred his authentic Japanese cuisine, the food here was slowly becoming more and more bearable. He would have preferred a warm bowl of sweet nattou over rice over the mufffins, but they would do. The plain yogurt and fruit, on the other hand, was excellent. He piled his plate high with fruit as usual, and got several small bowls of yogurt as well.

Finding the most convenient table to the end of the food line, he took a seat and scanned for the new arrivals. New arrivals meant people who would be lost and confused. Renji did a good job of making a bulliten post last time...he should recommend abarai-fukutaicho do the same again this time.

"Essentially?" Nakago asked as he took another sip of his tea. "This place is hell, and that the creatures and the healers in this place are possessed at night." Granted, Lust hadn't put things in quite those terms, but it was really the only thing that made sense to him. Granted, the dogs that had attacked him and Mozenrath had easily demonstrated the problem.

Speaking of Mozenrath, where in the name of the Four Gods was he?

"Also something about a"--he paused, attempting to recall the word Lust had used--"radio, but I had never seen such a device before."

Admittedly, he was purposely leaving out quite a few of the details from his conversation with Lust. Perhaps this man would be able to fill in a few gaps for him or give him more beneficial information on topics she had already elaborated upon.

"The Radio... you'll find it in your room, if you carry it around with you it will give you useful information and warnings, but you have to figure out what he's talking about."

Since Mr. couldn't just say it straight, and instead spoke in Riddles. Although some of what he said was fairly straightforward.

"They also brainwash patients at night and make them attack one another, and kidnap people at night to do things to them..."

[identity profile] heartofrevenge.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"So then his radio is meant to be used as some sort of communications device?" he asked, frowning a bit at this. If the man on the radio could communicate with them with this radio, could they talk back to him...? No, that was just silly. Strange little boxes like that weren't meant to speak to anybody! The world of the priestesses was certainly a strange one indeed.

"They also brainwash patients at night and make them attack one another, and kidnap people at night to do things to them..." This Mister Cole continued on to say.

Nakago paused, raising an eyebrow at this. Lust hadn't exactly covered this part last night. He did his best to look properly horrified, however. "Brainwash patients? Kidnap people? Why would they feel the need to do such a thing? Are we not prisoners of whoever runs this place?"

Clearly, prisons functioned differently here than they did back home if their captors felt they had to "kidnap" their prisoners to interrogate them... Nakago wasn't quite certain that he liked this particular arrangement.

"Usually, a Radio is used to listen to music or news being broadcast from a specific location, it's a good way to distribute information to a large number of people at the same time. There are also two-way radios that let you talk back and forth, but the ones here are the listening type," Nakago was clearly from a world or a time period where they didn't have this type of technology. Marcus had never had much of a great interest in technology himself, not the way Stefan did.

"They're doing this to torment us, to turn us against our friends and break our will." He wasn't exactly sure why they were doing it, just that they were.

[identity profile] heartofrevenge.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
If he had thought the world of the priestesses was strange before, he was certainly having second thoughts about that now. These radios seemed like they were more trouble than they were worth. What was wrong with simply sending runners for news or... something? He refused to let the confusion show on his face, however, and kept his face as blank as possible as he consumed a piece of his fruit and nodded. "I see."

Lust hadn't quite gone into that much detail with the radio devices and Nakago considered himself fortunate that this man had gone into such detail about the strange things. He stored this information away for later and nodded, devouring whatever information he was given to use later. He was beginning to think he would need whatever information he as given to survive in this place.

However, he was also starting to consider himself fortunate. After all, he had no friends in this place. Mozenrath was an associate, and, inadvertantly, his charge. That was it. And the demons that ran this place would have to be strong enough indeed to break his will.

"Hmm. That doesn't seem very fair, now, does it?" At least whenever he had done something, he gave his opponent the option of fighting back. Granted, that had been more because he had been amused to watch them fall, but watching them try had been a source of amusement for him...

Was it the same for this Martin Landel?

[identity profile] zeus-incarnate.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not very fair," Marcus agreed, but he was much more distracted by the fighting erupting in various parts of the room, with people even jumping up on top of tables to get higher ground.

"It looks like the patients are rioting," He couldn't just sit here. The more people that fought the better their chances of success.

[identity profile] heartofrevenge.livejournal.com 2008-02-13 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hearing noises behind him, he turned, cup of tea in hand, to survey what appeared to be an all-out riot. Although not unexpected given the circumstances of their imprisonment here, actually seeing it was another matter entirely. Nakago shrugged a bit at this and took a sip of tea, turning back to his breakfast and shifting slightly to dodge a fist that had errantly swung in his direction.

"I cannot say I blame them given the circumstances," Nakago confessed as he eyed what remained of his breakfast. Ah, well, it seemed as though he wasn't going to be able to finish his breakfast. It wasn't a major loss, of course; as a soldier, he was used to eating little while in a warzone. It was something of a pity, however; Nakago was quite fond of that tea, whatever it was. With a sigh, he shifted to his feet and eyed the man across from him, the barest hint of a smirk crossing his face. "Are you going to join them, then?"

He, however, had other ideas, gracefully jumping on top of the table to properly survey the madness, eyes scanning the room for Mozenrath. Where had that idiot run off to...? The tribesman was most likely getting himself into all sorts of trouble and cursing the lack of Nakago's presense at his side by now, he was certain.

[identity profile] zeus-incarnate.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I'll be joining in," Marcus got up out of his chair, picking it up and throwing it at the nearest nurse. The table was probably too heavy for him to throw in his current state, and it was large enough to potentially hit other patients in the chaotic situations.

The chair had the desired effect of knocking the nurse over, and Marcus grabbed another to throw at whatever staff member came at him next.

[identity profile] heartofrevenge.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Throwing objects was hardly suitable combat. It lacked the finesse of martial arts, that much was certain. However, Marcus had quite impressive aim, and Nakago allowed himself a bit of a smirk as he watched it fly, striking the nurse he had aimed it at dead on.

"Impressive." Nakago spared one more look about the room before settling on the edge of the table, picking up his cup of tea once again. A good fight shouldn't really go to waste, but the man he was supposed to be protecting was nowhere to be found and, to be honest, this wasn't exactly his fight.

For now, he supposed he would be perfectly content to watch the madness unfold. If he came across Mozenrath in this insanity? Then he would jump in. Not before.

[identity profile] zeus-incarnate.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Marcus managed to throw one more chair at a nurse before he was forced to deal with orderlies closing in.

"Sure you aren't going to help? This might be our chance to get out of here," When an orderly tried to grab him, Marcus threw a quick jab in at a sensitive area just below the shoulder.

The attack made his injured hand throb with pain, but the orderly pulled away the hand.

[identity profile] heartofrevenge.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it was like Marcus didn't know Nakago at all! But of course he didn't; they hadn't even met prior to this. However, Nakago didn't get involved in petty squabbles such as this. He had seen such ridiculous fights break out in poorly controlled prisons, after all. Prisoners were quickly subdued and then everyone else went about their business soon afterwards.

"If our jailers went to great lengths to obtain us, I highly doubt they would let us go so easily," he pointed out, although he did set down his teacup and eyeing the man curiously.

[identity profile] zeus-incarnate.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
"They'll probably just sedate us. There isn't much else to do during the day anyway," Marcus followed up his earlier attack with a punch to the face that broke the man's nose and sent him stumbling back, however, an orderly and a nurse quickly took his place.

"Might as well give them a little trouble for everything they're putting us through."

[identity profile] heartofrevenge.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"This may be true," he admitted. However, what was there to gain? Fighting the healers like this would give him nothing useful for when it really mattered at night. And, besides, if there wasn't anything useful to gain out of it, why bother? "However, I see no point in it when we will clearly be subdued."
