Day 30: Cafeteria, Breakfast
Hitsugaya woke with a start.
His entire body ached, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it had been the night before. His injuries had been tended two with clean gauze and bandages, and he found every movement wasn't agony. He wasn't in the best of shape, but thanks to the miracle of landel's strange time distortion, he had mostly recovered from the vile poison without having to waste anyone else's talents.
And in his hand, still...there was the key.
He dressed quickly, sliding the key onto the key ring from his desk drawer and stuck it into his pocket. Whether the key stood to gain them anything or not, it stood as a vital reminder that they could succeed in this place. There was hope, as insignificant as it often seemed. They could beat this place.
That small shred of hope made getting up worth it.
The nurse who escorted him to breakfast was cheerful, and commented idly about how wonderful it was to see young Tommy Winters up and about again after his unfortunate run-in with a bad case of food poisoning. He smirked slightly, knowing that any lies the institute forced into their heads were only that: lies. He wouldn't buy it for a second. And on top of that, the concept of muffins sounded almost appetizing. While he still preferred his authentic Japanese cuisine, the food here was slowly becoming more and more bearable. He would have preferred a warm bowl of sweet nattou over rice over the mufffins, but they would do. The plain yogurt and fruit, on the other hand, was excellent. He piled his plate high with fruit as usual, and got several small bowls of yogurt as well.
Finding the most convenient table to the end of the food line, he took a seat and scanned for the new arrivals. New arrivals meant people who would be lost and confused. Renji did a good job of making a bulliten post last time...he should recommend abarai-fukutaicho do the same again this time.

[Waiting for Angel]

"So... since they obviously don't serve waffles with breakfast, you wanna give it another try tonight? Or you got something better you want to do?"
no subject
"Sounds good." He replied, avoiding Mason's eyes.
no subject
"Hey, a fight," he pointed out, nudging Zel in the ribs. He grinned at his new friend, and quickly stuffed some food into his waistband for later. "This looks like fun!" he exclaimed, eager to take out some of his annoyance at getting his face set on fire. The reaper sprung up from the bench and punched the nearest orderly in the nose.
no subject
Without thinking, Zelgadis headed after Mason in the hope of dissuading him from getting involved.
"Mason! Mason!"
no subject
Two orderlies noticed the reaper and headed straight for him. A punch from one hit Mason squarely in the jaw.
"Fuck!" he screamed. His skin was still tender from the fire. "Fucking fuckety fuck!" He kicked the orderly in the groin and dug his thumbs as deep as he could into the man's eyes before he was tackled by the other orderly. Screaming incoherently, Mason rolled around in the ground with the other man, trying to get the upper hand.
no subject
"Mason, you idiot!"
Dodging other patients and a couple of orderlies, Zelgadis made it to where Mason and another orderly were rolling on the ground. It seemed impossible to extricate the two of them.
"Mason, stop! Mason, get out of there!"
Zelgadis ducked under a nurses outstretched arm, narrowly missing a needle.
"Mason!"
no subject
When he was satisfied that the bloke was unconscious, Mason stood up and grinned at Zel. "Isn't this fun?" he asked, before he was tackled again.
no subject
Finding himself pinned on the floor, Zelgadis kneed the orderly in the stomach and rolled towards Mason,
"We should get out of here, before it gets worse!" He yelled over the crowd.
no subject
"Bloody hell!" he gasped as the orderly continued to beat him. His nose was bleeding and he could tell he was going to have a black eye.
He managed to avoid the orderly's fists long enough to crane his neck upwards and bite hard into the orderly's ear.
no subject
"We're getting out of here."
no subject
"Naw, c'mon mate!" He laughed and gave Zel a friendly slap on the shoulder. "It's just starting to be fun!"
no subject
"You listen to me! This is the perfect opportunity to get out of here! Don't you want to escape, muscle-head?"
no subject
"Yeah!" he agreed. "We can sneak out while they're all distracted and stuff!" He grinned and Zel and grabbed him around the wrist, tugging him towards one of the doors.
no subject
"You hadn't thought about making a plan before hand, had you?" He asked, not expecting Mason to hear of the violence.
no subject
"What?" he shouted, still dragging his young friend along. He glanced over his shoulder to see if Zel responded, but this proved to be a bad move. His shin hit a bench, and with a shout of pain, Mason tried to reach down to touch the sore area, but wound up tripping over the bench. He flung out a hand to catch himself, but his legs tangled in that fucking bench and he found himself flipped over and falling backwards. The back of hid head hit the edge of the table, and everything exploded in stars and then went black.
