Day 30: Cafeteria, Breakfast

Hitsugaya woke with a start.

His entire body ached, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it had been the night before. His injuries had been tended two with clean gauze and bandages, and he found every movement wasn't agony. He wasn't in the best of shape, but thanks to the miracle of landel's strange time distortion, he had mostly recovered from the vile poison without having to waste anyone else's talents.

And in his hand, still...there was the key.

He dressed quickly, sliding the key onto the key ring from his desk drawer and stuck it into his pocket. Whether the key stood to gain them anything or not, it stood as a vital reminder that they could succeed in this place. There was hope, as insignificant as it often seemed. They could beat this place.

That small shred of hope made getting up worth it.

The nurse who escorted him to breakfast was cheerful, and commented idly about how wonderful it was to see young Tommy Winters up and about again after his unfortunate run-in with a bad case of food poisoning. He smirked slightly, knowing that any lies the institute forced into their heads were only that: lies. He wouldn't buy it for a second. And on top of that, the concept of muffins sounded almost appetizing. While he still preferred his authentic Japanese cuisine, the food here was slowly becoming more and more bearable. He would have preferred a warm bowl of sweet nattou over rice over the mufffins, but they would do. The plain yogurt and fruit, on the other hand, was excellent. He piled his plate high with fruit as usual, and got several small bowls of yogurt as well.

Finding the most convenient table to the end of the food line, he took a seat and scanned for the new arrivals. New arrivals meant people who would be lost and confused. Renji did a good job of making a bulliten post last time...he should recommend abarai-fukutaicho do the same again this time.

She grinned wide at that, flashing one of the brighter smiles she'd managed while being trapped. "They are!" she readily agreed. As strange as it was for someone to be in agreement with her, Rhode accepted it easily. She needed a conversation like with with someone. Now, there was one matter she needed to know before continuing. "Are you human?" she asked, feigning some semblance of innocence. The question had become regular for her to ask, but for the person asked, it was still likely to be strange.

"Physically, yes. But whether or not I have a human soul is apparently debatable." Farfarello chuckled coolly, eye half-lidded with pleasure for a moment as he thought about some of the things his victims had called him. And while he might have wondered at being asked that question--when he hadn't even done anything yet--in another place and time, in this place there were enough non-humans (allegedly) that it was a commonplace thing.

"Hmmmmm~?" she cocked her head once again, now more curious than before. What he said hadn't been exactly what she'd been expecting. It sounded like he was some kind of reverse Akuma - human in body but not in soul. Of course, he could be speaking metaphorically, but Rhode liked taking the more literal meaning of things. It was more fun that way. Lots more fun if she could get a few more positive answers out of him. "Do you like killing humans?"

Farfarello laughed at the way the kid put the question. So forthright! "I do. Very much. Haven't had as much opportunity here as I did at home, but I finally got to kill someone the night before last." Ahh, bliss. His injuries would heal--were healing already, thanks to whatever sped these things up here--but the pleasure he got from just remembering Caim's agonies, oh, that would last him a good long while.

Rhode's face lit up like a kid's at Christmas. She's finally found someone fun! And who wasn't afraid to say so! Even if he might be more human than she probably liked, she knew he had to be one of those insane exceptions that she tolerated much more than the regular, run-of-the-mill humans. Humans that honestly liked killing other humans just for the fun of it and not for some self-righteous reason. Just for fun!

"Ooooo, who, tell meeee~~~?" Now that he'd indicated just how fun he was, she couldn't very well leave him alone. She wanted to gory details! "And how? Slow and painful, I hope? Lotsa blood~~~~~? <3333"

Definitely an odd kid. But then, Farfarello supposed he must have given people much the same impression when he was that age.

"Some mute motherfucker named Caim." Farfarello rolled his eye, snorting in disdain--for a thieving bastard using the name of the first murderer*, Caim had had some serious delusions of righteousness. "And he put up a hell of a fight, but once I got him tied down yeah, it was slow." Farfarello idly touched the bruising along his jaw, noting that the swelling seemed to have died down already. He'd have to get Schuldig to check on his ribs and whatnot, later. "Of course, I don't have most of my favourite tools here, and had to finish before night ran out, but I did what I could."

Slow and painful was the best for a variety of reasons. Rhode's favorite reason was the bases for her next question. "Did he scream~?" she grinned, pressing down on the second muffin she'd yet to nibble as if to squash it, "Or beg?"

"I don't have any of my stuff either..." Stuff meaning her powers which gave her any play tool imaginable. Whatever this guy used, she could likely duplicate or top just with a thought.

"Well, like I said, he was a mute. But he made some great faces when I started skinning him." And most of the rest of the time, too. Caim hadn't been much of a conversationalist, but he'd been really easy to rile up. It was quite funny, really.

"With all the freaks and mutants around here, I'm starting to wonder if there's a lab I could get to. At least I could find some acid that way." Farfarello pouted a little, thinking of all the fun things he couldn't have here. No blowtorch was especially galling. But maybe he could find some pliers and acid.

"Whoops..." she giggled, sticking out her tongue at the mistake. She hadn't really registered the part about the victim being mute due to the more fun details. Like skinning! Oh that made her day! "Did you keep the skin like a trophy?" She would have in a heartbeat. Well, until the Earl told her to take it down because it was too un-lady like... humph!

She considered that there might be a place to get weapons, but she didn't know herself just where. "Probably," she agreed without much extra input.

Farfarello actually pouted, just a little. "I wanted to keep the ear I cut off, but everything was cleaned up by morning." Conveninent in some ways, but he didn't get any trophies.

A lab... he'd have to ask Schuldig. If anyone had been there, Schuldig would know what was in it. A little bit of H2SO4 or HClO4 or HCl... Not much good for actual combat, but really great to fuck people up with. Everyone had to have a hobby, right? Most of Farfarello's involved causing someone else extreme pain and/or disfigurement.

[OOC: Bonus points to any non-chem-majors who can identify all three of those acids without googling them or otherwise looking them up. :P ]

"Awwwwwww," she pouted right along with him. An ear would have made an excellent trophy! The full skin would have been better, but sometimes you had to make due. It was sad that he hadn't gotten to keep anything though. "You can kill someone else and make sure to keep something next time?" she suggested. That's what she would have done to make up for not getting a prize on the last kill.

Hobbies were fun ways to express yourself. Rhode wasn't so great with chemicals, but she had her own special ways of causing pain. Many, many special ways. If only her powers would kick in a little more here...
