Day 30: Cafeteria, Breakfast
Hitsugaya woke with a start.
His entire body ached, but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it had been the night before. His injuries had been tended two with clean gauze and bandages, and he found every movement wasn't agony. He wasn't in the best of shape, but thanks to the miracle of landel's strange time distortion, he had mostly recovered from the vile poison without having to waste anyone else's talents.
And in his hand, still...there was the key.
He dressed quickly, sliding the key onto the key ring from his desk drawer and stuck it into his pocket. Whether the key stood to gain them anything or not, it stood as a vital reminder that they could succeed in this place. There was hope, as insignificant as it often seemed. They could beat this place.
That small shred of hope made getting up worth it.
The nurse who escorted him to breakfast was cheerful, and commented idly about how wonderful it was to see young Tommy Winters up and about again after his unfortunate run-in with a bad case of food poisoning. He smirked slightly, knowing that any lies the institute forced into their heads were only that: lies. He wouldn't buy it for a second. And on top of that, the concept of muffins sounded almost appetizing. While he still preferred his authentic Japanese cuisine, the food here was slowly becoming more and more bearable. He would have preferred a warm bowl of sweet nattou over rice over the mufffins, but they would do. The plain yogurt and fruit, on the other hand, was excellent. He piled his plate high with fruit as usual, and got several small bowls of yogurt as well.
Finding the most convenient table to the end of the food line, he took a seat and scanned for the new arrivals. New arrivals meant people who would be lost and confused. Renji did a good job of making a bulliten post last time...he should recommend abarai-fukutaicho do the same again this time.

But then Hikaru laughed.
Kaoru's heart very almost broke. But his lips cracked first, eyes still watering just a little. "You're not angry?" he half laughed. "I feel like such a loser. I don't want to be so scared that I can't protect you," he admitted, feeling a little better. He pulled Hikaru into a half hug. "Don't ever laugh at me like that again," he added, grumpily. "But thanks."
He leaned into Hikaru once more, happier this time. "We'll fix the comms and I'll come to YOUR room tonight." He had to defeat the scary corridor.

He grinned, eyes twinkling. "I promise nothing," he said evilly. He was quiet after that, happy just to listen to his brother's breathing. He knew how close Kaoru had come to crying, just now. That's why he'd tried so desperately to lighten the mood. There was no way they were going to break the rule about crying in public. Not if he could help it.
"Either way. I'm perfectly flexible."

"You have to promise me that though," he said.
"You don't need to tell me! It's Milord who needs the advice." Maybe that ought to be todays task. Educate Tamaki in the ins and outs of boys love.

Life was so hard.
"Yes, yes he does. Let's make that today's goal."

"N-n-noo-no-noo-hoo-hooo," he wheezed, tears coming to the corners of his eyes. He attempted to fight back, but Hikaru won most of these fights. And he was sure he only won the odd few because Hikaru LET him.
Once his laughter died down and he wiped his eyes, clutching his side with the free hand, he cuddled his twin. "That's why I love you so much. You think just like me."

Taking a look around, he spotted Tamaki and smirked. "And there's our Idiot Lord now, with that blond guy. Shall we go over to meet him, or leave him be for the the time being?"
no subject
Kaoru looked over towards Tamaki and groaned. "Another blonde? Let's give him breakfast. Next shift, we attack. I wonder if they'll let us in the Library for some study time?" he winked.
