Day 29: Cafeteria, Brunch

Hitsugaya left the chapel no less frustrated than before. The head doctor once again had chosen not to hide his face, yet promised he would be making an appearance at some time in the near future. He didn't like being patient, but there wasn't much choice. Either the head doctor would show his face, or he wouldn't. Renji had already seen him, and knew how to find him. That was enough.

The thought of eating made him slightly nauseous as usual, but he knew he needed to get his strength up. He could either be weak and try to force his way through brunch without eating anything, or he could be smart and actually give himself something to eat. And there was rice. Rice and fruit. He took a heaping pile of rice, and grabbed as much watermelon as he could fit on his plate, then proceeded to an empty table. He scanned the room, watching for Momo. He wasn't exactly looking forward to their conversation, knowing how she'd acted yesterday; however, he knew he had to speak to her, and there was a good chance that she would show more restraint now that the drugs were out of her system.

Thoughtfully he consumed his rice and waited.

[free at the moment, pester if you wish]

Munching experimentally on the sausage, Shana had to agree with them; it was good, and she happily reached for another piece. "I woke up here the afternoon before we all went to town," she explained with a nod towards Maes and the new man who'd introduced himself as Roy.

At Alfons' question, she couldn't help but grin. "No, the elves would have killed me if they'd have found me when I was a baby. I was raised by dragons."

She wasn't sure anyone here would believe her tale, but she was starting to find amusement in their expressions when she spilled it.

Roy didn't take any note of Heiderich's behavior - he didn't know the boy well enough to realize there was any change from the norm, really - and was instead caught up in what the redhead was saying.

Dragons? That was just preposterous, as far as he could tell. He raised an eyebrow at her, but he knew better than to come out and say something like that was impossible. He had met so many people here with wild stories, and some of the other patients had even found his world hard to believe. There was no reason she would be lying, really.

It still sounded ridiculous, however, which meant that he had no proper way to respond. Roy decided to on eating and let the conversation play out however it would.

Elves, dragons... Hughes raised his eyebrows but had been there long enough not to be leap to disbelief.

"That sort of stuff's all kid's stories, where I come from," Hughes said, remembering the fairy tales and things he read to Elysia. "And dragons... well, they aren't usually the sort of creatures that take in orphans. What are they really like?"

Alfons seemed more interested in the girl Shana than in talking to Roy or Hughes. Hughes picked up on this, but attributed it more to the fact that Alfons was a young man, and Shana was a very pretty young lady.
