Day 29: Cafeteria, Brunch
Hitsugaya left the chapel no less frustrated than before. The head doctor once again had chosen not to hide his face, yet promised he would be making an appearance at some time in the near future. He didn't like being patient, but there wasn't much choice. Either the head doctor would show his face, or he wouldn't. Renji had already seen him, and knew how to find him. That was enough.
The thought of eating made him slightly nauseous as usual, but he knew he needed to get his strength up. He could either be weak and try to force his way through brunch without eating anything, or he could be smart and actually give himself something to eat. And there was rice. Rice and fruit. He took a heaping pile of rice, and grabbed as much watermelon as he could fit on his plate, then proceeded to an empty table. He scanned the room, watching for Momo. He wasn't exactly looking forward to their conversation, knowing how she'd acted yesterday; however, he knew he had to speak to her, and there was a good chance that she would show more restraint now that the drugs were out of her system.
Thoughtfully he consumed his rice and waited.
[free at the moment, pester if you wish]

He smiled at Valyn, struck for a moment at how normal it felt to be breaking his fast with the elf. It had been too long since they had been able to share a leisurely meal. "I wanted to thank you for looking after Shana last night," he said. "I promised not to pester you any more for details, but she seemed rested and in a better state then she was last night. I'm just glad you two were able to survive a night without talking each other senseless."

"It was fine. She babbled on some, senselessly at points, and I told her some about the Hernalth family. She told me about draconic family units and then she fell asleep. On top of me - I couldn't move, I'm amazed I still have circulation in my arm. She's heavier than she looks."
He wasn't about to mention she'd attempted to kiss him. Or that he hadn't pushed her away.

Shadow pointed over to where Daemon was sitting. "Occupied by him, actually. His name is Daemon and he had some strange obsession about putting me to bed. Whether it was his idea or someone else's, I'm not entirely sure but it seemed as if he was being influenced by someone else."

"I see," was all he could manage, his expression closing off in a tell tale sign. He knew this place could control its inhabitants for a night, but to the end of harming and corralling those not controlled.
And they stayed in largely traveled areas, not private rooms. The institute's power for some reason didn't reach the rooms at night.

How was he supposed to not worry about Shadow?

"They do one one night, the other the next, back and forth."

"I know people have tried. No one's ever succeeded. The power that these people have is staggering." Frightening was what Valyn really through, but even to Shadow he wasn't going to admit to that. "And as weakened as we are..." He shook his head. He hated to sound so pessimistic, but it was the reality of the situation.
"We just have to hope it doesn't happen to us."

Shadow looked around and caught sight of Daemon sitting by himself and staring down at his breakfast. "I think I'd like to hear what happened from Daemon himself," Shadow said, standing up. "Besides, it isn't as if he can send me away for asking questions now, is it? And he has yet to see how persistent I really can be. Care to join me?"
