Day 29: Chapel

Hiei didn't give a damn about religious services, meditation, or pretending to be social. The always sudden waking after night put him in a bad mood, this one particularly so. Even with Kurikara licking him like some perverted moron, the warmth the dragon provided was welcome in Hiei's bed, and missing when he woke, giving the surrounding air a greater sense of chill.

But the perfect thing to relieve his anger might just be making an appearance that morning, and that at least gave Hiei hope for a decent day.

Hopefully Kurikara and Kurama both would be clever enough to figure it out for themselves. Without hesitation, Hiei demanded to be led to the temple, taking a seat in one of the rear pews. Humans had a way of overdoing things, and this place wasn't really much exception to that. Granted Hiei's limited knowledge prevented him from realizing there were much more outrageous churches, but to the demon, the colored pieces of glass and polished wood seemed to be much.

It didn't matter, however. Either could be turned into weapons, perfect objects to slice into that damned head doctor's throat or bash in his skull. That was a thought worth grinning about.

[Feel free to pester. Just, uh, be aware that he's not exactly nice.]

"I do not know how he was summoned, but I have gathered that the rules of the War are not upheld here in the same manner." Saber frowned again, put off by the inconsistencies between the world in which she'd served and Landels. "I... cannot say whether or not the rules that would bind him to this new Master would be of the same nature as they were when I fought in the War. To be honest, the very nature of this place confounds me, though I am shamed to admit such weakness. Perhaps if you are capable of seeing the threads that bind us, it would be possible to discern his Master's location, but it will be a dangerous task to undertake." The Servant wasn't fond of another run-in with Gilgamesh in control of his full power. His Noble Phantasm alone would be enough to strike them all down if it were his whim.

Of course, Momo caught on to her implications; truth be told, Saber hadn't expected it to slip by her. The death god was keen on details and subtle hints dropped in conversation. Not wanting to let on how difficult it was for her accept, Saber forcefully kept her expression neutral.

"Indeed," she said simply, nodding once in affirmation.

Contained fury flashed in Momo's eyes as Saber answered the question posed by the shinigami. Not only did the shinigami find the very existence of Servants, given what they were, an acute violation of the balance, but to have such a wrong righted and then violated once again... She could do nothing but equivocate what had happened to Saber's soul throughout the course of becoming a Servant, returning to the cycle and then being once again ripped out of it again, as nothing less than spiritual rape.

She closed her eyes, drawing in a deep breath to calm her emotions. "I cannot forgive..." She stopped upon hearing her anger threading into her voice. After another moment longer, she spoke again and her voice was once more even. "Yet another reason this place needs to be destroyed along with the ones that have violated us all. You deserve you rest and return to the cycle. Especially if the truth is even a shadow of the legend," she opened her eyes, "Saber-sama."

Saber was taken aback by the anger that Momo seemed to be experiencing on her behalf. It was still such a strange thing to her, that someone she scarecly knew could be so offended on her behalf. The nature of Master and Servant perhaps had jaded her, but it was not impossible to believe that she was sincere. People were capable of it, she had learned, and she supposed it should be something of a comfort, were she not so taken aback by the thought of it. Unsure of just what to say without making it apparent that she was surprised, Saber kept her composure and agreed,

"I will not stop fighting until those in charge of this place answer for their crimes against each and every being here. They are little more than cowards for their tactics, and they shall not be shown mercy when it comes time to face those that they have wronged."

"I am glad to hear that, Saber-san," Momo said, shifting back to the honorific she normally used with the knight. "Last night on the buses showed us that the staff are not mere humans caught up in this sick game of Martin Landel's and to treat them as if they are innocent victims would be a mistake. I do not like taking a human's life, but I cannot see the spirit threads of any of the staff. As far as I can tel, they don't even have a soul."

She sighed, her thoughts turning back to last night's encounter. "As Gilgamesh seems to have a personal interest in you, do you believe he will stalk you at night? Also, was last night the extent of his power and what was the thing with all the weapons he conjured up in the hall?" A lot of questions, yes, but the shinigami needed to know.
