Nightshift 27: 2nd Floor Hallway near Nurse's Station
[[From Here]]
Allen followed, though his childish face was set in a firm line. Clark couldn't be that much older than him, why was he being treated like a little child while Clark was leading the group? He pushed his bruised pride aside. It probably didn't help that he wasn't exactly the picture of health either. Still, he kept an eye out for enemies from either side as the others lead the way.
Hadn't Renji and Rukia gone up the other staircase? They were going to get lost at this rate and then Renji and Rukia would trust him even less than they did now. But that wasn't important, what was important was getting these people free from whatever monsters had captured them. He'd been under Komui's knife more times than he cared to remember and if it was anything like that, he just hoped they'd make it in time. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if they were late only because he'd been pulled aside and wasted their precious time.
He tried to keep his hand steady as they reached the second floor. This was right near where she had been last night. That terrible spirit. He shuddered at the memory. As long as nothing like that found them tonight, it would be alright. He just prayed they'd have a safe journey this time.

By the time they reached the second floor, she didn't see Renji or the others anywhere. Without question, she was lost. It was up to the others to lead the way...which was fine. She mentally followed their steps so that she could get here again if she needed in the future.
As they stepped into the hall, however, Allen somehow looked worse. He was shaking! The obdurate anger that she was feeling before gave way to a sincere and deep concern for her friend. She still wasn't happy with him, but she couldn't sit idly by while he was feeling that way. As they walked, she put a hand lightly on his shoulder. There wasn't need for words.

Hold up, he thought to himself, my ears don't twitch properly anymore.
He prodded one with his pink fleshy finger, sadly. The lack of a tail had been so traumatic that he hadn't really noticed the ears before. He'd noticed the nose only a little. It was pretty much the same. He had to point it upwards a little and sniff. It worked. So did the mouth. But his ears didn't move unless he played with them. That was terrible. No wonder it was uncommon for these creatures to fight young. It must take so long training their senses. Stubbly little noses, no fangs, pointless ears, strange tail-less balancing acts.
He sighed to himself, remembering to continue listening out for danger, even if his skills were limited in this form. When he looked up, he realised he had no idea where they were. Hopefully Kent knew where he was going though, and even if he didn't, this was the second floor, so they weren't as lost as they could be, right?
"So. You guys all hooman?" he asked, wanting to make conversation. It was so quiet. "Amazing all the stuff here, isn't it? Lights... water....and those beds! Softer than a Bunny's bottom."

Still, better not to take chances. "Yeah. I mean, what else would you be if you're not human?" Clark asked. He figured that powers and stuff aside, he looked and acted as human as the next guy, so that was close enough.
He wasn't sure what to make about Robin's comments on the lights and beds. They were...okay, he guessed, but he would've given anything to just be back home, back with his parents and back with his friends, and in his own bed. If this was a prison, it seemed to be a pretty nice one (aside from the night stuff), but he just couldn't muster up the same optmism that Robin had.

When Noah made for the stairs, Edgar glanced over towards the beast, then at Celes and Larsa. Then he nodded. "Hm. At least they already have help," he muttered, though his voice still held a moment of uncertainty. He couldn't help it; after all, kingship meant it was his duty to protect everyone, didn't it? But it also meant he had to be rational, and Edgar was nothing if not a rational man. Sometimes. Even if he didn't like it.
He was quiet as he followed Noah up the stairs, listening to the echo of his own steps. When he stepped into the hall, he flashed his torch carefully, inspecting the dark corridor. Luckily, it seemed this part of the building was less eventful than the one they'd just left.

For a moment, they were at least guarded by the weak metal. Anyway, with the rotted cat behind them, back to the matter at hand. She'd not been to the second floor, but there was tell of stronger monsters. Or so she'd read, and wondered if it was simply that the people who had run into them were weaker than a usual person. "Shall we go left, or right?" she asked the back of Larsa and Noah's heads as the child and the man came closer to the door.

"But there would appear to be some kind of lounge for doctors in the second hall to the left. My map was not as detailed when pertaining to the second floor, but that would be the most likely area where a kitchen would reside."

Stopping upon entering the hallway from the stairs, Cloud flexed his grip on the weapons that he was carrying before looking back. He stepped to the side to allow Barret and Cid to come up, more comfortable following. He needed to learn where things were before he wanted to take the pulge ahead towards their mission.
The last thing they needed at this point was to have him get them lost. He was certain it was something he would not live down, especially if Rufus suffered more damage because of a turn around.

"Hey... Hey, guys!" He called back towards his group, his pace quickening as he headed a little ways down the hall. Sure enough, he saw a door open and hanging from its hinges as the volume of fighting increased. "Looks like we're near the party!"
Still, even as he approached, a sense of foreboding dogged his steps and made him recall the thing he'd run into that other night that had seemed to sap the life out of him. It felt like it'd happened a damn long time ago, and as he thought back on the event, he remembered other things too, like Vincent's Hellmasker and another Cloud's death and the fact that he'd spent so much goddamn time in this place.
Cid shook his head and pressed onwards. It was a good thing he wasn't a sap.

Making it upstairs was one thing, but now there was the minor issue of where to go. Not the right - that led to the chapel and the pharmacy and whatnot, all of which Reno had come across the last time he'd gone up here with Schuldig.
Forward, then, seemed to be their best option.
"Up head, likely," he said.

or 'Yiffie', so her annoyance was somewhat mollified. It was more respect than she'd gotten from a Turk previously, that was for sure. Even if it was only because she'd ticked him off.The ninja waited for both Turks to head up the stairs before following after them, refusing to be stuck with one at her back and one at her front. She reached the upper landing just in time to hear Reno's comment about their destination.
"You'd better not get us lost," she muttered, hanging her free hand off the waistband of her jeans.
no subject
Well, it looked like she was having her chance now.
The annoying ninja started whining again. Elena had just about had enough of her. She turned around, lifting her shirt just enough to show the pistol she'd stuffed in her waistband.
"See this?" she hissed. "I've only got a few bullets. I'm not going to waste them on you. But if you question Reno's judgment one more time, God help me, I'll--"

He spun around, although his glare was mostly directed at Yuffie. The end of the pipe slammed into the wall. "Enough. Holy fuck. You don't wanna be here, walk. Otherwise, shut the hell up."
He headed down the hall without bothering to wait for a response. Too dark to tell if he dented anything with that minor outburst. Probably. Whatever.

But whatever Yuffie intended to snap back at Elena, Reno's sudden outburst made her shut her mouth fairly quickly. The offer to 'walk' was tempting, but they were so close already. That, and Barret would probably give her hell for skipping out. Not that she cared, but she didn't want to listen to his bitching the next morning.
"This had better be worth it..." she muttered under her breath before grudgingly following after Reno.

"Okay. It'll probably just be a little bit longer."
Clark wasn't sure he agreed that all Kyon needed was to go back to his own room, but he probably wouldn't like being brought against his will to the other room and handled like luggage. It wasn't that picking him up and carting him over would be hard, but he had to respect Kyon's decision and that pretty much included not dragging him anywhere he didn't want to go. Clark bit his lip, frowning as he led the way back down toward the stairs.
He was careful to keep it slow for Kyon, chewing over all this silently for a moment. What if Kyon really was a vampire? And if this, uh, thing wasn't temporary? He couldn't let Kyon help himself to the other people here, even if he couldn't help it and didn't mean to hurt anyone.
And maybe you're getting ahead of yourself, Clark thought, annoyed. So far Kyon hadn't done anything wrong.
He glanced over at Kyon. "If you feel like you need a rest, just tell me, okay?"

Haruhi was going to find this hilarious, he bet. If she was still going to talk to him after what happened earlier in the day.
He did his best to pick up the pace a little, so that Clark didn't have to take it so slow for him. He looked around a bit and realized that didn't recognize the area they were in at all.
"Where ...are we exactly, anyway?" He didn't mention that he could see almost perfectly in the dark now, he had yet to realize this himself.
no subject
"I'm guessing near the stairs," Clark replied. That was the plan, assuming they didn't get themselves turned around on the way back. "I think," he said, feeling like it'd be a lot better to admit he wasn't sure rather than lie. "I haven't been up here before. What about you?"
It was pretty quiet now. Kyon seemed to be improving a little - he was actually walking on his own and not looking as much like death warmed over, which Clark took to be a good sign.
no subject
"I've never been up here, before. I've only been here for ...two days? Yeah, two days." Though it seemed like so much longer than that. It felt like it had been forever. Kyon knew he couldn't think like that. Even though he was separated from the people who usually came to his rescue, he wasn't about to give up. He'd get back home without them.
Somehow.
"How long have you been here?"
no subject
"About the same," Clark said. It was great that he wasn't alone feeling lost here, but it didn't help when they were lost in the dark like this and still in possible danger. "Did you just wake up here? Without any idea how you got here?"
It seemed to be a common theme in Landels but maybe he'd run into that someone who was different, who could provide some answers. At least, that was what he hoped. He was still holding out that he could figure out this himself, help these people and bust them all out, preferably in that order. After that...well, he still had to get back to Smallville, back to his parents, his friends. And back to a life that was already weird enough before coming to Landels.
no subject
And it sucked, because while Kyon wasn't always the well informed on his end, he at least some something behind him, backing him up when something went wrong. That's who his friends where. No matter what went wrong, or what he had to fix, they were always there somehow or another.
Haruhi was here, but she hardly counted. She didn't think of him as anything but dead weight, so he could very well do the same.

"So this is the second floor, huh?" Heiji said, looking around and shouldering his pole. "Fun stuff. Which way is this famous closet?" He smiled at Bella. "D'you remember?"
no subject
His eyes narrowed against the darkness, still playing the sightless, blind human. For as far as he could see, it was just one more nondescript hallway in a completely symmetric building. And there were a lot of doors. A lot of rooms that could be wrong. A lot of wasted time. How were the patients supposed to explore and get back to their room all in one night? The hours seemed severely numbered.
"Running?" He questioned, voice flabbergasted. "Remember the part where you can't run along a flat surface without falling?" He gave her a playful grin, the rush of blood to her face another welcome burst of scent. "I suggest the slow approach. Hopefully you remember the way?"
no subject
Sticking out her tongue at the vampire quickly, Bella composed herself before Edward had a chance to have a miniature freak out over her accelerated heart rate. Turning toward Heiji, she nodded her head. “It’s … to the right. Then I believe we just keep going. I couldn’t see much last night, after that stupid thing stepped on my flashlight.”
no subject
"Well, if Cullen thinks that running's a bad idea, then perhaps we could just walk quickly?" He grinned and shined his flashlight down the hallway. "The hall seems pretty straightforward from here on out--let's hurry though. No telling how long we've been walking around here."
