Hallway Outside Sun Room

[[from here]]

The feeling was strong.  There was something out there.  And as he neared the Sun Room, it was even stronger.  It felt like an Akuma, but he couldn't be sure, not in this place.  As much as he didn't want to wait around here, he had to meet Emily.  He couldn't help thinking that they should have picked a safer place.  He'd never been very good at planning things though.  He just had to take things as they came, one at a time.

He leaned against the wall with a sigh and settled in to wait, moving his flashlight up and down the hall just to be sure nothing was coming after him.

Unfortunately for John, Kikyo had already used up his 'nice' quota for the night. And if you asked him, he would say that John had no place to be less than forthcoming with him, now.

In any case, the man hand long since forfeited any rights to civility from Kikyo, even before he incurred this debt.

With an unamused tone, Kikyo spoke again. "As have you. Now why don't you tell me how it happened?"

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Was I stabbed?" The Giant killer said with a good deal of sarcasm, "It must have escaped my notice. It would explain a few things."

Looking away from Kikyo, he added, "There's a guy in there with a sword stabbing people. That's how it happened."

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, extreme blood loss might very well explain idiotic and dim-witted behavior, Kikyo thought to himself. That still didn't excuse the man's attitude problem, but that was beside the point.

Kikyo cradled Kougaiji's head in his lap, his fingers brushing gently through his crimson locks. The boy was stubborn, he knew this much. But why would he risk so much, with a body already so injured? He could tell from that morning that he was gravely wounded before the fresh injuries inflicted this night.

"It appears then, your clever weaponry was not so sharp as you may have wished," he said with a dark smile.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack tutted and held up a finger on his good arm, waving it. "That's where you're wrong. I don't have any of my things today. Those bastards abruptly changed my room and those were all in the old room. Had I had HALF of what I used to have..."

The Fable went on to make a slew of claims as to the vast skill he himself possessed and how very untrained, unimpressive, and clearly lucky Gin had been this evening. Ordinarily, he kept insisting, he would have laughed at Gin's feeble attempts to wound him, but as things were, someone had intentionally stacked the cards against him. Clearly, he was at a handicap and had been taken by surprise, and did he mention that he was unarmed?

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Kikyo snorted, looking at John with contempt. If the man inside the sun room had any skill with the sword, no amount of forks, sharpened or not, could stand a chance.

As for all the claims to various skills and powers, it seemed the man was boasting without much thought to whether his words held any basis at all. Kikyo would believe it when he saw it. That is to say, if he even cared to.

"Then sharpen your wits, next time." He answered dismissively.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack rolled his eyes. "Look, buddy- I know you don't think to highly of me, but can we cap the attitude? I'm not in the mood right now. I appreciate the wound wrapping and the concern for Kou, but today hasn't been my day." It took him a good deal of swallowing his pride to say 'appreciate', but he had forced it out.

"If you wanna play protector and hero to Kou, I have no problems there. Hell, I'll even tell him that you personally saved him from an unknown fate worst than death if that floats your boat. I'm just saying that I would be a much happier camper if you'd keep the snide remarks to yourself."

That said, he tried once more to climb to his feet and make an exit, though it hurt so much to even THINK of standing...

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Rest assured that no such intervention is necessary on my behalf," Kikyo answered. He made no remark on the request to curb his attitude. He could very well ask the same from John, but he doubted the courtesy would be returned.

He arched an eyebrow as the man tried to stagger to his feet. He knew from the extent of those injuries that sustaining consciousness was a feat in itself, much less trying to walk.

"I suggest you stay where you are, lest your appreciation be for nothing," he said. And he added with a slight grin, "unless you do not trust to lose your consciousness around the likes of me."

It was beyond him why he should warn the urban ninja of something he was probably well aware already. Perhaps Kougaiji's kindness was getting to him, thought that was highly unlikely.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Eyes narrowing, Jack shot a glance at Kikyo, doubting the other would see it in the dark. "If you don't mind me saying, pal, not all of us can afford to be as trusting as Kou."

He managed to struggle somewhat upright (albeit, leaning on the wall for support and an odd angle) and take a few steps before toppling over again. It wasn't fair! His legs still worked fine--it was the damn blood loss and wounds to his torso that were keeping this from working out as he planned.

Forcing himself out of the faceplant, Jack struggled again to get to his feet. If he could make it to another hallway, at least, that would be a fantastic accomplishment...

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Suit yourself," Kikyo answered. If John was foolish enough to try to move in his condition, he was not going to be one to stop him.

Though John was right about one thing - one could never afford to be so trusting as Kougaiji. Not in this world, and not in the world Kikyo came from either. Ironically, it was his trusting nature that moved Kikyo to help him in the first place. Such a fragile thing, in the palm of his hand.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Several subsequent attempts to wander off proved just as fruitless and Jack was forced to admit he was stuck here for the long haul. If nothing else, maybe Kou would wake up and tell Kikyo to keep his claws sheathed. Until then, it was just him and the assassin, huh? Well, Jack wasn't one to sit silently and Kikyo didn't seem like one for words. He'd obviously have to initiate and control the conversation. How to do that subtly...

"So," he sighed, helping himself into a less awkward position, "What do you want to talk about, then, since we're stuck here like this?"

REAL subtle.

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
We? Since when did occupying the same hallway turn into a 'we'? Kikyo didn't think it was really necessary to force any kind of dialog, especially since the other was just as reluctant to be sociable as he was.

He sighed as his palm came to rest upon Kougaiji's forehead. The youth's breathing was evening out, not so raspy or in pain as before.

Conversation was not John's forte, in Kikyo's opinion, and the less he had of it the better.

"What is there to talk about?" he finally said.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, we can talk about you and Kou. How do you know him?" Surely they hadn't just met at breakfast? Kikyo seemed far more committed to him than he would someone he only eaten one meal with. The Fable cocked his head and added with a smirk. "Or we could play 'Truth or Dare'. Is that more your style, 'sweetheart'?"

A jab at Kikyo's feminine appearence was probably not the way to go, but he couldn't help himself.

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
By that morning, Kikyo had thought that this place was no hellish afterlife at all, but now he was beginning to reconsider. Maybe this was a kind of hell...surely he must have done something horrible to deserve being forced to sit in the company of such an insufferable idiot.

His brows furrowed with annoyance.

"I would rather not," he answered curtly.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Aw, come on," The Fable chided. "What would you rather do then? Sing songs in the dark?"

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Entertaining as that sounds, I would rather not," Kikyo repeated. "As a matter of fact, why don't we dispense with all attempts at society? Surely such a prospect is just as welcoming to yourself as it is to me."

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Whatever you say, Babe," Jack grumbled, scowling and turning his gaze to the ceiling. It didn't even occur to him that he had mistaken Kikyo honestly for a woman. He knew Kikyo was a man; he had never been confused, like he had with Haku. However, for some reason, looking at his outline in the darkness, Jack had forgotten. Not that the Fable would admit his mental facilities were shutting down due to his injuries. Oh, no- He was getting the hell out of there and there was nothing this lady was going to do about it.

Wait, not lady. Man. Kikyo was a man.

"...wow," He blinked, shaking his head and trying to clear his mind of the haze that was beginning to creep in.

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
Babe?? For the second time while in John's presence, Kikyo wondered where his katana was.

To think that instead of letting the man bleed slowly and painfully to his death, Kikyo had actually helped him...strange things happened in this place they called Landel's.

The good news was, the urban ninja's consciousness was fading. Kikyo longed for the darkness and silence that would follow.

And actually, John had nothing to fear of passing out in Kikyo's presence. He would wake to find all his belongings still on his person - including his life.

"You are luckier than you think, urban ninja," he said absently.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack snorted. "Oh, really? Cause I don't think I'm particularly lucky today."

Between the humilation (and beating) at Haku's expense, THEN the beating from Gin, and now THIS, Jack was beginning to wonder if being the greatest and most powerful Fable who ever lived was really all it was cracked up to be.

"Ahhh," He sighed, shutting his eyes for a moment and opening them again, "If I'm lucky at all today, that in and of itself is pretty lucky."

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hn," Kikyo snorted. He leaned his head to the wall behind him, still cradling Kougaiji's head in his lap. The boy's warmth felt so familiar, bittersweet. Like a trusting child, he'd fallen asleep, leaning into him as his world went black. How old will he be when Kougaiji discovered that those he trusted could hurt him the most?

"If you find any value in your life, then yes," he said drily. He didn't expect John to realize how close he had come to his own death, foolish and proud as he was.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack snorted and mumbled a "I don't need to worry about my life, you mundys won't let me die, you all love me too much" under his breath, and turned his head back to Kikyo.

"So, where's your tea today?"

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
And here again, the mention of tea. An odd fact to fixate on. Was it such an unusual thing to come across a man drinking a cup of tea? Perhaps it was unheard of in his part of the world.

The last time Kikyo was having tea in this godforsaken place, he was wearing it all over himself. A courtesy of Ran and his hand that flew across his face with force.

"I had some at lunch," he answered indifferently.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lucky you," Jack wished he had some tea right now, to take his mind off his pain. Actually, he didn't want tea; he wanted cigarettes and booze, though he didn't think Kikyo could deliver either. He pursed his lips and arched an eyebrow at Kikyo. It sucked that this guy was being such a bitch to him. Might as well try and resolve this rift between them since he was gonna be stuck with the man for awhile anyhow.

"So, why have you got such a nut against me? I only suggested that sane people don't drink tea in a place like this when they could be looking for a way to leave. I didn't think insulting tea is something to hold against a guy, unless it was the uber tea of all teas."

He smirked. "Or was it? If so, I need to get me some of that tea..."

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm?" Kikyo turned to glance at him, and he chuckled.

There were any number of reasons why Kikyo had a 'nut' against this man, as he put it. The tea had nothing to do with it. Though quite frankly, Kikyo was not inclined to take a liking to much of anybody, regardless of civility (which John lacked).

"And what makes you think I am sane at all?" he replied with a dark smile.

[identity profile] i-slay-giants.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's rude to imply otherwise, ain't it?" The Fable retorted with a mischievous grin. "But if you're aware of the fact, babe, then don't take it out on me!"

Huh. 'Babe' again. He knew he wasn't a woman, he really did. Why was his brain shutting down? This time he was certain he had said 'babe' when he meant 'pal' or 'buddy' or 'fellah' or 'asshat'.

"So, is it your lack of sanity that found you here to Landel's or what?" He quickly said, changing gears to try and distract from his failing logic.

[identity profile] black-ageha.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Because this social nincompoop was the expert in gauging his own rudeness, for sure...

Kikyo grimaced at the 'babe' that John let slip yet again. Was this guy purposely trying to get under his skin? Thankfully, Kikyo was not feeling too annoyed or homicidal at present, so he let it slide.

"That is the idea, is it not? A place to hold in the madness of our minds," he said. "Or perhaps, to bring it out even more." He chuckled mirthlessly.
