Nightshift 26: 2F Hallway near Stairway and Nurse's Station

[From here.]

By now the Colonel was just surprised.

From everything he'd heard earlier that day, he was expecting monsters to pop out of every orifice of this Institute. Instead, it remained all but blissfully quiet, and in a way it was a big disappointment. Though as they say, knock on wood or he'd regret what he just said (or thought). Yet the silence gave him time to think, a small bit of time to contemplate to himself without the loud chatter of other patients around him.

By then he was venturing in territory that left him alert despite whatever bit of introspection came to mind. Eventually, Jade chose to hug the wall, fingers pressing lightly against the cold surface as he continued along his way.

"One hundred Improbable prisoners, to boot," Max commented absently, glancing up and down the hall. When it came down to it, she fit under that category herself.

"Well, we've got right or left or straight ahead. I don't know what's left or right, but I did go straight ahead my first night here. There wasn't that much that direction, and I didn't find any big locked room, but there is a way outside that way, from what I remember. I didn't get much further than that, though."

"Keman?" Valyn looked to the dragon. Keman had been rather reliable and good in choosing directions so far, Valyn decided he may as well keep it up. At least they knew not to bother going straight ahead, if Max had already been that way.

Though it was good to know you could get outside from the second floor.

Keman wasn't used to being looked to for directions. Usually, he was just content to follow whoever happened to be leading them at the time--be it Shana or Valyn or Mother or Father Dragon. Suddenly being thrust into a leadership role made him nervous.

"I...I don't know." Don't look at me! This stupid body's killed my sense of smell and direction and I can't even fly. I'd be a terrible guide!

The young dragon shuffled nervously, looking uncomfortable. "How about...this way?"

He picked an arbitrary direction and started walking.
