Day 26: Intercom, Evening

The intercom clicked on with its usual jingle, the Head Doctor clearing his throat before he made his last shift-changing announcement of the day.

"Well, now that everyone is clean and having fun, I suppose it's time for everyone to be escorted back to their rooms for dinner! Yes, yes, I know the game room can be entertaining and doctor sessions can be fulfilling, but we only have so much time in the day, don't we?

"Ah, and speaking of dinner, tonight, we'll be having an old favorite--seasoned steak, a baked potato, and peas! Yum, yum. You also get a choice of vegetable soup or caesar salad--just tell your nurse which you'd prefer--and may also choose from our usual variety of drinks."

He made his usual pause, perhaps contemplating what the night would have in store once the sun fully set. Now, however, wasn't the time to reveal such musings, and so he ended on his usual cheery note:

"That's about all for now! I hope you all enjoy your suppers."

And again the intercom turned off.

Siegfried watched the blonde man sit down and begin to eat his dinner, and then decided to do the same. He noticed that the man ate his food in a way that he’d seen people of nobility eat, and it struck him as being rather out-of-place on the man, who had previously acted and spoke very casually.

The way the man mentioned the map caught Siegfried’s interest. A map would be very useful, and it would save him a lot of time searching and inevitably getting lost at some point.

“Could you tell me where I could find a map… please?” He hoped that this was ‘nice’ enough for the other man. He got the feeling that the blonde man was the type to tease.

Peony raised his eyebrows at his roommate (if that was even what this guy was.) Still, the way he was eating dinner right across from him on the other bed in the room was somewhat telling. The guy seemed almost - untalkative?

Still, he had the upper hand with him, and it would be fun to play around with him a little bit. He didn't entirely want to see him beg - yeah, the guy was pretty, and just as short as a woman, but he was not one, much as Peony would have liked to have a cute female roommate.

He laughed at the question, still not by any means ill-naturedly. "Oh man, you're tryin', but you gotta be a lot nicer than that. Give me your best smile. You may introduce yourself, while you're at it."

The emperor had been trying out different ways of self-introduction since this morning, but he hadn't quite yet figured out the one that suited him best.

“…Smile…?” Siegfried was a little stunned and a little confused. He’d been asked for many things in return for information, but he’d never been asked to smile.

…It couldn’t be too difficult to do, could it?

Very slowly and very carefully the corners of Siegfried’s mouth picked up and gradually formed a small, tentative smile. “I’m Siegfried Schtauffen, and I would appreciate it if you could tell me where I could find a map.”

He hoped that was good enough this time.

That had to be the most hilarious smile he'd ever seen. It was like someone'd asked him to enjoy a punch in the face. Oh, man. It made his grin grow exponentially.

Well, he guessed that was what he wanted. Better not to be mean for much longer, right?

"Right here," Peony replied as the intercom began to speak, signaling the end of dayshift (he supposed..?) and with that he held the two (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/misuchan/1stFloor.jpg) maps (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/misuchan/2ndFloor.jpg) he'd collected from Obi-Wan Kenobi in front of Siegfried's face. His grip was strong - even if Siegfried tried to grab it away, Peony doubted he'd succeed. "Maybe I'll let you have one tomorrow, hmm? Hope you've got it memorized!"

The doors clicked open; Peony grabbed his baseball helmet (which he put on his head,) the shine-tube, the bat, and the maps, which he'd torn out of his journal. "Well, I guess that means we can go out now. I'm Peony! Uh.. nice to meet you."

And then he disappeared out the door.
