DAY 26: Men's Showers (Second Shift)

Gluttony didn't want to leave his Lust, not after he'd just found her!  But the mean tasty nurses said he had to.  "You can't join her in the women's showers" was a bad excuse.  He didn't like the mean tasty nurses.  Maybe Lust would let him eat them later.  Still, he knew he would see his Lust again, and that was good.  He liked Lust.  She was good and beautiful and smart and kind.  Why did they have to take him away from his Lust?

Still, he would see her again.  And she would tell him it was okay to eat the tasty nurses, and that would be good.  His new friend liked eating people, too.  That made him happy to find a friend who shared a love for eating people.  Today was a very good day.

As he entered the showers, he stood under a shower head and opened his mouth wide to drink up the water.  It wasn't as good as eating people, or eating waffles that didn't scream when he bit into them so weren't nearly as good as eating people, but it was still swallowing something, and that made him feel better.

Recluse would have nodded, but not with how his head felt. "The lights are near-blinding." Especially in the mornings, when he was trying to readjust after the darkened hallways.

"Ah, light-sensitive?" That was a common problem among most demons that he knew, many were averse to bright lights. The human world was a very bright place to be compared to the darkness of the underworld.

"Very. Usually even more so outside this place, but I can control it there." Now, whenever the red glow returned to his eyes for even a moment, it just got worse.

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, the human world is quite bright, isn't it," His eyes were normally more sensitive than they currently were, Sparda was beginning to notice that his vision wasn't as sharp as it normally was.

"Yes." For the months preceding and following the change, his eyes had been so totally unable to deal with the light. During his fight with Marcus after Nemesis tried to destroy Paragon City, the feeble light from the moon and stars had been almost as painful as the light here was now. But since then, he had brought it under control... Until this place made him as weak as he had been before the events in Greece.

"Forgive me if this is too personal a question Tartaros, but what are you?" He was curious, Tartaros sounded quite a bit like he was demonic in origin, but there was a chance he was something else entirely.

There was no reason to lie here. Not as there had been with Jack. "I have inherited the power of Tartaros. The name is simply one that I sometimes use. I was human, before then." Weak, and unable to see how much his life was being wasted because of a 'friend'.

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
So he had been human originally, interesting. "So you are not in fact the Tartaros of myth, and merely the inheritor of his powers. Interesting... and how old are you then?" Probably not, very, if he had started out as a human before gaining the power of Tartaros.

[identity profile] tartaros-avatar.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"109." Not as old as some here, but at least one he could mention proved that some of the oldest here were just the ones who had wasted the most time. "In my dimension, Tartaros was originally human as well. However, the origin of his power is unknown."

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"So you're still young yet. Old by human standards, though... I didn't know Tartaros personally personally in my dimension, though I did know Cerberus," That was interesting to know, that the Tartaros from the other world had been human originally.

[identity profile] tartaros-avatar.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Most of those older than myself in my world have atrophied and have become complacent. I hope to become an exception." There were always opportunities to gain more power, and more dimensions to conquer. And as long as Marcus was still alive, he would never stop trying to kill his former friend

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am still quite active in the human world where I am from. While it is sealed off for the most part, weaker demons still manage to get through, and the weakest among the demons are more than a match for the vast majority of humans," Sparda had worked too hard to protect the humans two thousand years ago to simply stop protecting them now. And hopefully his sons would follow in his foot-steps and protect humans as well.

"Demons are not so much the problem where I come from. They do still find their way in, but the greatest threats from other dimensions are entirely different. Apart from that, those native to the dimension can also be... bothersome." There was a biblical monster asleep under Sharkhead Isle, for one. Calystix the Shaper needed to learn that he was not going to allow her insane doomsday cult to let the thing wake up.

And Mako needed to learn to never disobey him so rashly again. Memories of that whole affair made his scowl deepen.

Existence certainly was a strange thing, so full of variety. He had never really been too concerned with realities outside of the one that he inhabited, it was quite enough for him.

"It sounds as though your world has quite a lot of work left to do," his was doing quite well, as far as he was concerned. The humans were having trouble with the occasional war, and the past century had been particularly bad.

[identity profile] tartaros-avatar.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. I was working on that before being captured." He was, in a sense. Not out of any charitable intentions, but he didn't really need to mention that.

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose that being human, or having once been human, you are much more qualified than I to deal with human affairs. Have there been many human wars in your world in the past hundred years?" Sparda was curious to see just how similar their worlds were, and what humans were like where Tartaros was from.

[identity profile] tartaros-avatar.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Many wars. Humans are quite skilled at finding excuses to fight amongst themselves." It was both a threat and a necessity, with how things stood for him. "I fought in one, when I was still human. World War I." If it hadn't been for certain events there, he would have never gotten the chance to open the box.

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes... there have been occasions when I have been rather concerned for the humans of my world," It wasn't his place to help humans fight one another. Sparda had decided long ago that humans should decide human affairs, so long as they did not try to summon demons. It was when they dabbled in the supernatural as they called it, that he would get involved. "It is amazing, though, how quickly humans advance."

[identity profile] tartaros-avatar.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only when they have immediate need to advance, or for war. Most of the greatest advancements are used exclusively for millitary purposes for years, before becoming available to the rest." He was sounding rather like his old, actually technocratic self. Now, the philosophy was more of a means to an end. He supposed the sentiments would make good cover here, where he had to appear reasonable...

[identity profile] sword-and-demon.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes... I do not often keep up with the cutting edge of technology, though there are occasionally interesting human inventions," Like the airplane, for example. That was a truly amazing stroke of human genius.

[identity profile] tartaros-avatar.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, occasionally." He could think of several that Arachnos had been working on... Most of the recent advances had been from reverse-engineering Rikti technology, however. It didn't matter where it came from, really, as long as Arachnos stayed ahead of all the rest.
