Day 69: Intercom, Evening

Patients might hear the wind blowing outside as the intercom turned on and they were gradually moved from the courtyard or somewhere surrounding the Sun Room and back to their rooms. The wind made a howling noise, something that almost seemed to hint at what was to come when darkness hit and night began.

But for now, everything was as pleasant as it always was during the day, with the Head Doctor chiming in to explain what was on the menu this evening.

"I'm sure you all had a nice, relaxing day as you continue on your journey toward good health, but now it's time to head back to your rooms and have dinner with your roommate before lights out. Tonight we're serving some seasoned salmon with rice pilaf on the side, and for those of you who are vegetarians we have a black eyed pea soup along with a dinner roll.

"Whatever you're having tonight, eat up and get some rest! We'll be seeing you again tomorrow!"

The nurses didn't say much about the fact that some patients had roommates who had been missing for a few days now. Normally there would be someone to take their place, but that didn't seem to be the case for a few people. The mystery behind that was clearly one that was going to remain unanswered, but at least the patients had a hot plate of food waiting for them on their desks.

"Yeah, of course!" Korra couldn't imagine staying in. "I figure I'll try to get a look around like I did last night."

And hope the night didn't end before she had hardly gotten anywhere.

She almost wished Korra didn't sound so enthusiastic about the prospect... Despite her best attempts to stay calm, Tsubaki couldn't help but worry for everyone's safety with danger closing in on all sides.

"I see... Well! I made copies of some maps today, if you need one?" she said, tilting her head.

If the other girl wouldn't accept a knife, maybe she would accept that if she hadn't already gotten a map from somewhere else. Making copies had been more productive than doing nothing, at least, even if it provided only a false sense of comfort.

"That'd be great! Thanks!" A map would be very useful. Korra really needed to make a habit of checking that bulletin board for information.

"Anything I can help you with?" Probably not, but she felt like she at least ought to offer. Tsubaki had been helpful and nice to her these past two nights.

Ah, now that was something Tsubaki could help with, then... She rose from her seat and moved over to her storage box. "Hold on, I have them here..." After fishing for a moment, she pulled out her journal and the maps that were tucked within its pages. "These cover most of the first and second floor."

Approaching Korra's bed, she held them out for the other girl to take. Hopefully they would be of some use. Tsubaki had sketched out each area, labelling them carefully with names and note on whether or not the doors were locked. The few areas left blank were those that required key access, something she didn't know many people having.

Korra's offer to help her in return made her smile, but she had to shake her head. "It's all right, it's enough knowing you'll be careful out there."

"Thanks a ton." Korra tucked the map into the waistband of her sweatpants. She shrugged at Tsubaki's polite refusal of her offer.

"I guess all we do now is wait for Intercom Guy." She laid back in her bed, resting her hands behind her head. Korra was slightly distracted, tonight. She missed home.
