Day 65: Intercom, Evening

As some of the clouds from earlier began to clear, the intercom jingle sounded over the intercom once again.

"Hello, patients!" came the Head Doctor's cheery voice. "I hope you're all feeling fresh and clean this evening! To top it all off, we've prepared a scrumptious herb chicken dinner for you to eat before bed. Of course, we have vegetarian options available, so please don't hesitate to ask the nurse if you're interested in that.

Also, since we have the pleasure of welcoming a few new patients into our family, some of you will be receiving new roommates. Let's do our best to give them a nice, big Landel's Institute welcome, shall we?"

The Head Doctor gave a friendly chuckle. "Well, anyway, enjoy your dinner!"

With that, the intercom shut off.

[Note: All dinner threads are posted in response to this entry. Be sure to check the Roommate Assignments if you're not sure what room/roommate your character has! Thanks.]

Niikura was finding it really hard to eat his chicken, just because everything was starting to taste like that gross pink slop they'd been forced to eat a while back. It wasn't that it was overcooked, it was just that he had so much stuff on his mind, that somehow, even his tongue couldn't be bothered to operate properly, or his appetite, for that matter.

Where am I even going to start looking? One freakin' tiny bird that--

And then his thoughts were interrupted by his roommate, who had suddenly found himself in the mood to socialize, to put it nicely.

"WAUGH!" The teen nearly fell out of his chair as Sechs slammed his hand down next to his plate and angrily accused--no, warned--no...what was going on? Niikura stared at his roommate for a few seconds in utter confusion before his brain gave up and went on auto-pilot.

Unfortunately, auto-pilot meant that he just shouted whatever came first to his mind, but this was like the straw that had broken the camel's back, and honestly, he didn't really care anymore if he looked like a total idiot.

"What the--the hell is your problem?!" Niikura sputtered, jabbing his index finger at his roommate. "What--didn't anyone even--what--I'm just mindin' my own business! Didn't anyone tell ya to--" Oh great, and he was staring him right in the face too. Niikura hastily pushed his chair back and jumped to his feet to put some space between the two of them. He was not going to be intimidated by this, damn it, not when he was a Shou and therefore capable of incapacitating fully grown men in twelve different ways...!

"I'm not thinkin' of killing anyone, okay?!" - for once - "I got friends who are sick too, y'know! And I know how to handle myself! Sheesh! I mean, I mean, I don't even know your name! I've never even met you before! How would I even--rrrrgh just--just calm down, okay?! I get it! You're sick! Terrible! I got it! I'm on your side!"

As his panicky target scrambled off his chair, Sechs released a beastly growl through his teeth and stepped even closer, hunched over and bristling like a wolf about to pounce in for the kill. The youth's reaction was more than enough proof to the delirious Replica that he had been up to no good. Keeping his feral eyes fixed on his target, Sechs' hand reached for Niikura's abandoned utensils and viciously swiped them off the desk with a clatter -- he wasn't going to give the spluttering, white haired youth any chance to kill him! Not even with a damn fork!

Now the unnatural chill inside Sechs' spine was rapidly spreading like growing cracks upon a sheet of thin ice. The shadows of the room had begun to stretch and slither into the Replica's vision -- even Niikura's face was beginning to change. The closer Sechs approached the youth, blackened numbers which only he could see flickered over Niikura's forehead. 3... 7... 9... Just some of the AR agents Sechs himself had killed. Another threat to his survival and identity... Kill or be killed...

Sechs' balled his hands into fists and took another step closer, pushing his roommate into a corner. If he could knock him out long enough to get out his machete...

"I'm on your side!"

The former battle android paused, his wild eyes blinking with sudden confusion. Wait...! The deep cold in his back, the unnaturally moving shadows, Niikura's mentioning of knowing someone else who was sick...! Damn it!

Akin to a flustered bull that was just charging at its target a mere second ago, Sechs took a confused step back, giving out a disgruntled snort through his nostrils as he did so. He took a moment to close his eyes and give his scruffy head a little shake, banishing the mental images the drug had forced upon him. He couldn't believe it! He had allowed the parasite in his back to incite him into attacking someone he barely knew! If he hadn't stopped himself in time...!

Finally, Sechs forced himself to reopen his eyes and deal with the mess of a first impression he had dropped on his new roommate. Thankfully his vision of Niikura was clear of any provoking numbers this time, but it didn't help fix the situation much for him. The Replica could only stand there, uncertain and reluctant to give Niikura full eye contact. What the hell was he supposed to say? That not only was he sick with a virus that would turn him into a monster, but that he was afflicted with a sentient drug out to take over his entire mind too?!

"...Fine," he finally said with a snort. The Replica tiredly turned away and dropped back down on his chair with a grunt. "My bad... Just... Just under a lot of pressure, ok?" was all he could say to explain his actions.

Another moment of silence and he gruffly added with a brief glance at his roommate, "...You can call me Sechs."

Wow, now he was going to be killed by a fork. This had to be the worst day ever. Yeah, not if I can help it. Instantly, the sputtering teenager act disappeared, replaced by the familiar chilling calm of Akumetsu. Absorb the blow, and then use his momentum against him...

He waited, slowly moving back until he could feel the corner behind him, and then--

Niikura couldn't help but sigh deeply in relief as his roommate abruptly turned around and went back to his chair. He didn't mind a good fight, but he also didn't like fighting when it could be helped, especially when it meant the possibility of being stabbed by a fork. As skilled as he was in these kinds of situations, he usually found himself up against opponents that were less...feral.

That didn't mean, of course, that he had totally let his guard down. He regarded his roommate warily as he replied, "...aye. I get it." Sort of. He was feeling pretty stressed at the moment, and he didn't even have the virus; he could only imagine how someone who was actually infected was feeling these days.

Niikura gave Sechs a weak smile as he waved again. "So...guess we'll do this over again, huh? Nice to meet ya, Sechs-san. I'm Niikura."
