Day 65: Intercom, Evening

As some of the clouds from earlier began to clear, the intercom jingle sounded over the intercom once again.

"Hello, patients!" came the Head Doctor's cheery voice. "I hope you're all feeling fresh and clean this evening! To top it all off, we've prepared a scrumptious herb chicken dinner for you to eat before bed. Of course, we have vegetarian options available, so please don't hesitate to ask the nurse if you're interested in that.

Also, since we have the pleasure of welcoming a few new patients into our family, some of you will be receiving new roommates. Let's do our best to give them a nice, big Landel's Institute welcome, shall we?"

The Head Doctor gave a friendly chuckle. "Well, anyway, enjoy your dinner!"

With that, the intercom shut off.

[Note: All dinner threads are posted in response to this entry. Be sure to check the Roommate Assignments if you're not sure what room/roommate your character has! Thanks.]

On the plus side, Landel hadn’t seen fit to pair him up with one of the new prisoners as 'roommates'; that was something to be glad about. The vampire glanced over at Ippo’s tossing and turning. He had at least gotten used to this particular human and could ignore him when need be.

He’d set his journal down by his tray at the start of dinner, and once he was finished eating he picked it up again, setting the tray aside. "Well, I’m here, so…" he started, pushing his chair back to rise, "it must be dinner time, no?"

The journal, he set in amongst his other belongings. There wasn’t going to be much time for reading and writing once the lights went down.

"Oh, right," he mumbled behind his sheets and turned his eyes to the meal on his bedside table. A growl came from his stomach like a beast that hadn't seen a meal in day and, frankly, it felt like that. Swallowing on a dry throat, he sat there for a moment looking a little stunned and overwhelmed. It was rather unlike him; Ippo was a morning person, bouncing out of bed in the morning to start a new day with zeal. Right now he felt miserable and almost thought about just going back to bed, but he knew that would only add to his problems down the road.

So, trying to keep his sheets across his arms to keep them covered, the boxer took hold of his tray and pulled it toward him where it sat on his lap. There he remained quiet as he stared down at his chicken, munching thoughtfully.

Great, someone else's stomach was rumbling? Like he needed the reminder of how horrible a feeling an empty stomach was. He sighed at the noise.

Although the boy's blood lacked the same evidence of sickness that Aigis had, Aidou still cast Ippo a glance as he returned to his seat. "You're not hiding a rash under there, are you?" It didn't hurt to ask.

"A rash?" Bemused, Ippo stared at him for a minute before clarifying. He figured he might as well lest his roommate try and yank the sheets right off him for answers. "N-No, not a rash, exactly...." The young man revealed his hands to him at the very least since the scars were much higher ups his arms.

"It's nothing contagious if that's what you're worried about..."

Aidou lifted an eyebrow at the reaction his question generated. "Yes, a rash," he echoed. "I hope by now you've gotten an idea of what a rash might mean, or have you been holed up in here the entire time?"

The boy wasn't the brightest, that much had been made clear from the very beginning, but surely Ippo had heard about Landel's latest experiment by now, hadn't he? The news was only... well, everywhere.

"If it's those injuries of yours making you nervous, I already knew about them. It's the symptoms of infection I'm more concerned with. It'd be nice to know if you were set to transform into a mindless beast."

"I-Into a mindless beast?!" Oh no, how did Aidou know about that? He had only told a few people! But he should have been more careful. Secrets never stayed secrets for long, he knew that better than anyone what with the friends he had at the gym. It was like those guys could pick up on brain waves and just knew what deep, dark secrets you housed in your heart!

"N-No, I won't! It only happened that once!" It was out of his system after this many days! Since then Ippo had been careful not to take any pills from the nurses, though after his accident there were plenty of times he was too weak to really put up any protest against pain killers. He supposed they could have slipped him another dose.

Oh no, he didn't want it to happen again. The boxer could feel his body break out in a cold sweat as his heart hammered against his chest.

If Ippo was hoping to lose Aidou’s interest, then he was going about it the completely wrong way.

Aidou pinned the boy with a thoughtful look, eyes narrowed. "That once?" he repeated. "It’s already happened to you?" Well, that just didn’t make any sense under the current circumstances. Still, it was clear that the topic had had a sincere affect on the human; his fear was practically sloughing off of him like a second skin. If he wasn’t sick but he’d been involved in Landel’s demented experimentation, then…

After a moment of mentally retracing the time that he’d known Ippo, he had an idea. "Ah. Was this about a week ago? The drugs they tried to convince people to take?"
