Nightshift 60: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

Taura pondered the announcement she'd just heard as she jogged down another empty hallway. Who was she? Jill? Who he'd tortured himself, though that could have been an act on her part as well? Whose side had she been on? And what could have happened to her that would be permanent?

Death was usually pretty permanent, but even that had its exceptions around here. Taura didn't have to like it to know it was true; what had General Aguilar done that could change that? And why was Doctor Landel so angry?

It was an uneasy thought to stomach; revenge drove people like nothing else did, and being one of the people in between was a hell of a way to go.

Though Utena had told herself that she would think on the things that piqued her interest in the Head Doctor's announcement, she had to admit, she really didn't know where to start on puzzling them out. There just wasn't enough info to work with, especially not for someone who wasn't naturally good with deduction or puzzles. Possibilities swirled in her head, but nothing gelled into a right-sounding idea. Maybe Lydia was some important military person; maybe she had been kidnapped by Aguilar after Landel took control back; or maybe she was an alien from planet Kashira and had been called back to the mother ship. Who knew? There really was no way to know right now. Suddenly Utena found herself wishing she could talk with Marc about this; he would probably know a bunch of things she didn't.

She felt the radio bouncing against her hip as she jogged down the hall, its weight more present with Marc in her thoughts. Would he say something tonight? Again, who knew? Here's hoping the basement gets radio reception, she thought as she rounded the corner into the main hall.
