Day 24: Intercom, Dinner

The intercom jingle rang out both inside and outside the institute on speakers loud enough to broadcast clearly across the recreational field.

"It's been a busy day, hasn't it? Well, fortunately for all of us, it's nearly over, and we can all look forward to some rejuvenating shut-eye--that is, after dinner, of course."

The Head Doctor chuckled.

"Supper for tonight is going to consist of individual servings of chicken pot pie, with mashed potatoes and peas as sides. You may ask your nurse about the usual selection of drinks, and... Oh! Some of you might find that you have some new guests in your rooms belonging to... Group 5, I believe...? Please see to it that our new patients spend their first night at Landel's Institute as peacefully as possible!"

He paused, then added:

"Oh, and Nurse Hondor? Could you please report to my office? Thank you."

The intercom clicked off.

[ OOC: Remember how dinner shift works--everyone posts to this post with individual threads for each room. New characters waking up during this shift will do so in their respective threads, though if your roommate's player is unable to play with you during your intro, feel free to work something out so that your roommate is taking a nap or something. "Statement: Meatbags are generally illogical. Biological imperatives usually work against any logic from higher cognitive processes." Meatbags didn't really seem well designed for intelligence, really. "I have not observed many of the prisoners, but there do seem to be trained fighters here, apart from the two Mandalorians. The first meatbag prisoner I encountered gave his profession as assassin. It is strange that these meatbags have not attempted coordinated attacks, at least." But, they were meatbags after all...

HK remembered something said by the diminutive female meatbag. "One of the patients mentioned that any abilities that might distinguish them from the normal human have been greatly limited or inaccessable altogether. Contemplative: It is possible that this suppression field or other unknown source could be extended to other metabag functions and consciousness." It was not a happy thing to speculate about.

"Well, some of us can separate our logic from our more base functions," Citan said, his voice a bit distracted. Sometimes. Even he, trained as he had been, devoted to the glory of Solaris as he had been, had withdrew troops from Shevat. And why? For the love of a woman.

"I imagine without ties outside of this place, trust and cooperation don't come easily. Ah, yes, I did feel distinctly as though I'd been given a limiter when I woke up. I do wonder how they managed to abduct me and sedate me for such a length of time." They clearly took him from his bed. He and Yui were both light sleepers, and he knew she kept a katana beneath the mattress. One of them would have heard something. Was Yui here, as well? He was going to have discover just how many of his friends and family had been taken.

"Acknowledgment: I am aware of that fact. It is unfortunate that many meatbag legal systems are unfairly biased against such individuals." Until you were ranked high enough in the power structure, that is.

"Statement: I was fully engaged and conscious, as of my last recollection before booting up here. A properly calibrated ion blast could have disabled me, but I was guarding my Master at the time- she would have been able to sense almost any intruder's presence before they would even be within my normal sensor range." Unless Master was trapped here, too... No. He had been carefully scanning the crowds before, and there was an infinitesimally small chance that he would have overlooked his Master. Or maybe she had only just awoken, like this meatbag? What if she was injured?

HK was working himself into a state of distress, his eyes showing the worry he felt for his Master.

"I suppose so," Citan said, once more a bit distracted. It wasn't as though he ever worried much about legal systems. He had always been above them.

"Yes, I'd know if someone had rendered me unconscious," he agreed. He prepared his own drinks, Yui prepared his meals. It wasn't as though someone could have drugged him. Though again, why would anyone want to? "It's rather distressing, I agree. But there's no need to work ourselves up over it. Calm heads always prevail in these sorts of situations. And stress isn't good for organic bodies."

In response to the meatbag's statements, HK forced himself to drop the hypotheticals. His yellow-orange eyes became blank and emotionless once more. "Agreement: Yes, It is. I have observed the effects of stress on many meatbag species. Preformance dropps significantly." Usually he was at least partially the cause of stress.

"Query: You seem unfocused, meatbag. What is distracting you?"

"I'm simply trying to determine how they could have abducted me without my knowledge," Citan explained, drumming his fingers on the desk. "It wouldn't have been easy. That's what distresses me most. And certainly it sounds as though they would have encountered difficulty abducting you, as well."

He eyed the food that HK-47 had seemed to be less than pleased with.

"Performance in organic creatures also drops without the proper food for fuel. I'm afraid human bodies need a great deal of upkeep."

"Affirmative: It would have taken a very powerful individual or group to subdue me. My Master had recently repaired me and upgraded several systems, therefore I was in top condition. I would never willingly allow myself to be captured, and would resist attempts to do so as long as I had a little functionality." That made him worry about the state of his chassis. Even if he was able to find it, how functional would it be? And how would he be able to return his consciousness to it?

HK sighed and looked at the (still smelly and disgusting) tray of organic matter. "Statement: I am aware of that fact, however..." He moved the tray closer, picking up some of the 'pie' on a fork. He nearly gagged again. "Distress: It is so unpleasant. The food does not want to stay in my digestive tract. And I know well enough by observation what it does when it wants to leave."

"And both my wife and I are very light sleepers. One of us would have woken up if anyone attempted to break into our home." Most distressing indeed.

Also distressing was realizing that mad or not, his companion most likely had little idea how to remain healthy. "Eat it slowly, in small bites, and drink plenty of water. It's going to leave your body eventually, but that will help ensure it leaves in the correct manner."

HK picked up some of the most boring looking food on the plate- the off-white paste which stuck to the fork. He put it in his mouth and tried not to think about it. Since it was so mashed already, he didn't have to masticate it. The stuff still was unpleasant, but when followed immediately by a mouthful of (mercifully tasteless) water, it complied much more peacefully than the 'pie'. "Statement: I have been forced to do more repulsive things than even this... I suppose I will manage."

"Your body will thank you for it," Citan said, nodding some. It really wasn't bad food. He'd eaten worse, most likely. "We humans need to eat three times a day. For optimal performance, at least." That didn't mean meals weren't skipped. Many a times, Yui had brought him a tray in his workshop that remained untouched while he was absorbed in his projects.

"We also need sleep, exercise, daily cleaning, mental stimulation...."

HK groaned quietly, forcing another mouthful of paste down his throat. "Statement: I am aware of all of those requirements, meatbag. I was simply... hoping I might be leaving before I was forced to deal with such things." He certainly didn't want to be around when the food left the body through the opposite end.
