Day 24: Intercom, Dinner

The intercom jingle rang out both inside and outside the institute on speakers loud enough to broadcast clearly across the recreational field.

"It's been a busy day, hasn't it? Well, fortunately for all of us, it's nearly over, and we can all look forward to some rejuvenating shut-eye--that is, after dinner, of course."

The Head Doctor chuckled.

"Supper for tonight is going to consist of individual servings of chicken pot pie, with mashed potatoes and peas as sides. You may ask your nurse about the usual selection of drinks, and... Oh! Some of you might find that you have some new guests in your rooms belonging to... Group 5, I believe...? Please see to it that our new patients spend their first night at Landel's Institute as peacefully as possible!"

He paused, then added:

"Oh, and Nurse Hondor? Could you please report to my office? Thank you."

The intercom clicked off.

[ OOC: Remember how dinner shift works--everyone posts to this post with individual threads for each room. New characters waking up during this shift will do so in their respective threads, though if your roommate's player is unable to play with you during your intro, feel free to work something out so that your roommate is taking a nap or something. Hisoka wordlessly allowed himself to be escorted back to his room. His actions were still somewhat slow, but he was more awake than he had been in the last several hours and that was good enough for right now. The empath had bigger problems to worry about, like what was in the waistband of his pants and who he was going to have to kill.

That and his head was throbbing.

Stepping into his room, the nurse was quick to depart-- probably still pissed over being tackled, though Hisoka didn't see why considering she got to sedate him in the end. Bitch. Hisoka took a glance at his red-haired roommate, the guy seemed busy and the boy wasn't really in the mood for pleasantries. Maybe they'd be able to--

Shit.

Hisoka sighed and walked over to his dinner, eying it critically. He was supposed to introduce Tsuzuki to Renji... he had completely forgotten.

Renji glanced up, taking a look at his roommate. He was moving a bit slowly, and Renji was rather familiar with that feeling. "Enjoying the house cocktail?" he asked, grimacing.

He turned the page in his notebook. He'd be done sketching anyway. "Someone gave me a map that covered about half of the second floor, and I trust her to be honest. Want a copy? I don't have the original any more - I gave it to Hitsugaya-taichou - but I remember everything just fine." He grinned. "I'm pretty good with maps."

Oh yeah. Hisoka didn't know about the captain. "Hitsugaya was brought here this morning," he said. "I want to introduce you tomorrow when there's time. And I still got to talk to that idiot partner of yours, right?"

Hisoka scowled slightly. "Is that what they're called?" It was no wonder he hated alcohol. First sake and now a cocktail, it was a damn sign from the celestial heavens to be the sober one so he could kick Tsuzuki's ass for making him worry.

The empath pitied the alcoholic idiots if that sedative was really the American beverage so popular in bars. He shook his head as he turned his attention back to Renji.

"Yeah, I could use a copy. Might as well seeing as how we're not going anywhere for a while."

As for the introductions...

"As long as he isn't touchy-feely we'll get along just fine-" Maybe. "-And a few other people I know just arrived as well. You may want to talk to them too."

Renji chuckled. "Not actually," he said. "It's just what Eric called it." He hadn't seen Eric for a while, and that was a bit worrying, now that he thought about it. He'd look for the other man during the day tomorrow, then search for his spirit thread if he couldn't find him. Right now, he wanted to conserve his strength and stave off the headache.

He started sketching out a new map for Hisoka.

"Doesn't get much less touchy-feely than Hitsugaya-taichou," Renji remarked. "And yeah... I'd like to to talk to 'em. Would you mind introducin' me tomorrow? I gotta head out soon as the door are open." Well, he could probably delay a little, since he doubted that Sora and Kairi would leave without him, but all the same...

"Ah." That explained everything and at the same time didn't. Oh well, there was too many people here and it really didn't matter.

Hisoka sighed, pushing away his tray. He hadn't eaten so far today, but with all the drugs in his system he wasn't hungry enough to attempt to brave the shit they were handing out.

"Yeah... if nothing goes wrong I'll tell them to talk to you." The boy moved to sit then froze in place, suddenly remembering the file beneath his mattress. Last night he hadn't looked much into it, angry and outraged that his personal life was gossip to some fat fucker who didn't give a rat's ass if he had been raped, let alone if he really was insane. Now that he was much calmer-- and even more sluggish-- he should probably look through the file more...

"Just take it easy," Renji said. "Hopefully you get it out of your system faster'n I did. Took me a couple hours and I still wasn't fuckin' right in the head."

He glanced over his shoulder, hand still moving to sketch straight, light lines on the paper. "At the risk of soundin' parental, you should try to eat. The mashed potato things are okay if you get past the texture."

It'd work if Hisoka sent them his way. He was hard to miss in a crowd. One eyebrow crept up as Hisoka froze.

Hisoka nodded slowly. If he didn't return to normal by nightshift he had no choice but to deal with it, but for now he'd avoid the strenuous work of... well, whatever he was doing now.

The boy scowled slightly, but it was more aimed at the food rather than at his roommate. Why couldn't they just provide rice? As a side dish or something, he could handle rice... It didn't burn or leave him wondering if he'd have to preform surgery on his stomach in order to rescue whatever creature he was currently digesting. The quasi-eggroll from yesterday's lunch was good, he could live off that if need be. "Is it spicy?"

But first things first, Hisoka narrowed his eyes and took the paper from his waistband before walking over to his bed and retrieving the manila folder from underneath the mattress. He'd read whatever the paper said first then go through the folder again, this time without freaking out like an idiot.

"You got someone you're stickin' with tonight?" Renji asked. He was rather concerned; if Hisoka was still loopy when the doors opened, he really wouldn't be in condition to take care of himself.

"Not spicy," Renji said. "Pretty bland. Tastes like potatoes and that really salty butter they like here. So it's okay." He shoved his now cleared tray away. "The peas were okay too. They're the sweet type. But if your stomach's botherin' you, dunno if you'd want the pie thing. It was really... Western. Really Western." He wished he could just have some rice again.

He continued to sketch out the map, glancing over his shoulder again as Hisoka messed with his matress. "What's that?" he asked.

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-05-31 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hisoka just shrugged. He was sure he was supposed to meet Tsuzuki and the others somewhere, just couldn't remember if the idiot said where. Or when. Well, duh, nightshift... Hisoka was going to kill every last idiot who pumped him full of drugs, he couldn't even think right now.

"I'm supposed to find the people I told you about. Somewhere." He'd figure it out eventually. It'd come to him in a vision.

Hisoka glanced at the food again, now with a suspicious look rather than dangerous. None of it looked remotely edible, but at least he wasn't being mothered into eating it. Or haggled like Tsuzuki had done. Maybe he'd try a small bit of it and if he didn't die again then it was alright.

He shook his head and dropped the paper and the folder on his bed. "It's the file that they have on me." He took a silent, deep breath before continuing. "Seems they know a lot." Too much.

"If you need a hand findin' 'em, tell me before I leave," Renji said. "I've met your partner, so I can track him." He frowned at the map he was drawing and went over a few lines, then began to darken some of the lines.

"Is it actually about you, or is it a file on the person they say you are?" Renji asked. "When I met with that doctor - Wilson, I think - last week, he let me look at my file. It was... accurate, to a point. Like they fit all the details of my life to the framework of a human's existence."

Re: M42

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-05-31 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hisoka forced himself to take a step back (not literally) to organize his thoughts. They were just about everywhere at the moment and being drugged was no excuse to have it that way, regardless of how difficult it was. He shook his head.

"I'll find them." It was better than tagging along like a little lost puppy and he was sure Renji had other, far better things to do. Summoning his courage and any deathwishes he may have had, the boy picked up his fork and took a bite of potatoes.

The texture was definitely.. odd. To put it simply. But his roommate was right, the food itself was not that bad. Like the quasi-eggroll had been.

"It's about who they say I am, but that makes little difference to me. Everything has been 'normalized', but they still know too much regardless of if they think my empathy is 'psychosomatic' or not."

Re: M42

"Okay," Renji said. He'd offer. He wasn't going to push; Hisoka was a Shinigami, so he ought to be able to take care of himself. And maybe Hisoka could do something similar, though he kind of doubted it since the kid hadn't even known what spirit threads were.

He watched Hisoka at least make an attempt at eating, then returned to his map drawing.

"I bet all the files are like that," he said. "Tryin' to make us sound normal. I just wonder, why go to all the damn trouble? Unless maybe most of the staff's not in on the game." Which was a little annoying, since it meant that it was a lot less acceptable to hurt the nurses and such in the process of escape if they were, in fact, innocent bystanders. "And yeah... it's worrying that they know so much. About Shinigami, especially." He frowned. "I died when I was 'bout four or five, so most of my 'life' happened in the spirit world. So how the hell would they know about that? And do they just know events, or exactly what we can do as well? They didn't mention any of my spirit abilities in the file Wilson showed me."

Re: M42

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-06-01 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hisoka scowled, pushing the potatoes around on his tray.

"The head doctor wants to screw with us, doesn't he? Why the hell he's doing it is beyond me, but if there was ever a way to fuck with someone's head it'd be to slowly make them believe everything was just a lie." Whether or not he was succeeding and how much he was doing so was yet another unknown that the boy would leave alone. Hisoka quietly watched the potatoes slide off the spoon as he listened.

"In my world, there were a few living people who knew about shinigami. One of them even had the means of traveling between the two realms and Martin Landel appears to be much stronger than they are by far. Not only that, but he has the ability to choose what times he wants certain individuals to be brought here, would it be such a stretch to say that maybe he can see into their pasts too?" Hisoka frowned thoughtfully at the idea. "Then again... there's so many people here... he'd have a lot of work to do."

And Doctor Martin Landel did not seem the type to want to waste time looking at each new captive's past which only left the boy even further in the dark.

"As for our abilities... I'd think they'd have some idea. They limited each one, but they didn't remove them entirely."

"I think that's exactly what they're tryin' to do, with these new names and everything. Break us for what, I don't know, but... if I was an evil bastard, I bet I'd love to have a bunch of people like us under my control." He frowned. "Though that doesn't explain some of the people here, like that Tamaki guy. He sounds pretty worthless. Unless maybe he's got some hidden potential."

He frowned. "I don't know. I just don't know. We need more information, and that's just not happening."

He put the finishing touches on the map for Hisoka, labeling the rooms he knew about that hadn't been on Namine's map. "Maybe they do about our abilities. But to us, it feels like they've just put a powerful binding on our reiatsu. So anything that uses a lot of that energy... just not happening. I don't know how it feels to other people, though."

He carefully tore the page from his journal and stood, then put it down next to Hisoka. Then he lifted the mattress of his own bed to retrieve his katana, still wrapped as it had been last night. He tied it around his waist. It made him a little sad; almost made him feel like he had Zabimaru back, except for that continued, terrible feeling of emptiness. "At least some abilities, they can't take from us."
