Day 57: Cafeteria
Edgar's charming company had raised Anise's spirits enough that not even the Head Doctor's voice could bring them back down. Besides, she was feeling pretty sure that Landel wasn't actually around. To begin with, it wouldn't make sense, and secondly, his announcements sounded suspiciously like ones she'd already heard before. While Anise wasn't very familiar with Earth technology, she'd seen the little devices in the Music Room that could play recordings of people's voices. This had to be something like that.
It wasn't long before Anise was escorted to the Cafeteria, and then to the section where edible food was being served. As she filled her plate with waffles, fruit, and sausages, she looked to the other side of the counter with a look of sympathy. It was hard to enjoy her own meals while knowing what the other patients had to suffer through.
She wasn't about to refuse her meals just out of guilt, though. Anise needed her strength for tonight. There was still a bit of a nervous twist in her stomach whenever she thought about what could happen down in the basement... but she wasn't going to back down. Not after promising her friends they'd go together.
With her tray in hand, Anise seated herself at an empty table in the middle of the room. She preferred to have company while eating, but it looked like she was one of the first patients there, so there was no one to sit with. Maybe if she minded her manners and tried to look her cutest, she'd attract someone handsome! Holding her utensils delicately, she began to cut her waffles into smaller pieces.
[For Battler.]

So he'd been an attorney? In an accident. That left him sour and with his face half-covered like a mummy? There was a story there and Grell's fingers itched to rip into Harvey and spill his blood, to force his Record to play and uncover just what sort of things he had done to upset someone so terribly they would leave him looking like that. Or what sort of pub brawl he had instigated. Or whose parent had gone absolutely nutters and come after him in a fit of parental rage over a seemingly just acquittal, or a failed trial.
Attorneys could have such interesting lives if they allowed themselves that luxury.
The smile came back as Grell lost himself to these fantasy lives and he slid his gaze back to the former attorney. "Extremely risky. But as I remember, you're the sort to pry and yet reveal not a thing yourself. Cheeky thing you are, Harvey Dent. Very cheeky. It's a shame you don't trust so easily. I should have liked to play partner to your dramatic life."

All right. On second thought, that happened pretty often here.
While Grell was calling him on the fact that he was barely revealing a thing about himself, he wasn't demanding more details either. He probably wanted them, but that didn't mean Harvey had to give them. Instead, he raised an eyebrow on the unmarred side of his face at what Grell said next.
"Play partner? What does that mean?" Was Grell trying to imply that he wished he could reap his soul or something? Harvey didn't want anything to do with that, mainly because it sounded kind of violating. Luckily, the intercom sounded not long after that, and while it meant that he had to listen to Landel's annoying voice again, it also meant he had an easy out from the conversation. "Looks like that's it. Good luck waiting for your boss to come pick you up." His tone hinted at sarcasm, but he made sure it wasn't too obvious. He got the feeling that when it came down to it, he didn't want to be on Grell's bad side. With that, he stood from his seat and searched for the closest nurse-slash-soldier.

"What does it mean indeed....? Perhaps one day you'll take a chance and try to find out, hm?" Grell waved then as the pseudo-nurses began to move about the room, picking people up and taking them elsewhere. He would wait until everyone was out of the room to go - that way he'd know which areas held the most entertainment. "Don't be a stranger, Harvey."
And don't die - he wanted to add. It would make this place ever so boring.
