Day 51: Arts and Crafts [Second Shift]
They actually listened to some of the suggestions people put in that box? Anise thought the Head Doctor had to be joking when he said that, but she soon heard him mention something that she herself had suggested: sewing supplies. They were really going to get some? Anise could finally get a real needle, so she could make repairs to Tokunaga whenever she needed to. She swiped one of their blunt, plastic needles before, but using that just left big holes in the fabric. Using it on Tokunaga made her feel bad, like she was hurting the poor doll.
"Isn't that nice, Dolores?" The nurse must have caught Anise's hopeful look. "But remember, you'll need to be on your best behavior until then."
"I know, I..." Anise began with her usual dismissive reply, but quickly remembered that the intercom had said 'behavior and attitudes', and instantly changed her tune. "I'll do my very best! Hee hee!" She forced a smile for the old hag.
Unfortunately, the sewing supplies weren't here today, so Anise had to find something else to do for now. Stepping inside the Arts and Crafts room, she quickly found that several tables already had paper craft ('origami,' they called it?) supplies laid out for them, so she guessed she'd just occupy herself with that. The girl sat down at one of the tables, opened up one of the books, and started looking through it.
Cranes, frogs, horses, turtles... There were lots of familiar animals, and a few unfamiliar ones, too. The rabbits looked kind of cute.

Kay scowled at her nurse, pulled away from the well-okay-not-that-productive conversation with Beelzewatchum, and grudgingly let herself be deposited at a table. "Why don't you draw something, Alice?" the nurse suggested, brightly, and Kay scowled darker.
"My name isn't Alice," she insisted, again, and nursey-lady patted her head, with a way-too-cheerful smile.
"Don't worry, dear, we'll make sure you get better," Nursey-lady said, and left Kay to her own devices.
Well, fine! If they were just going to leave her here, she was going to do something useful with all this kiddy craft stuff, so there! With a toss of her head, Kay went to the cupboards, ransacking them for stuff what she could use for Justice!
[Kaito! :D]

To be honest, he wasn't sure what that meant—if she'd been sent back home where she belonged or if, like the nurse said when he'd asked after her to be sure, she had 'gotten better' and been 'released'. If it was the latter... The only thing he could guess was that she'd been brainwashed like he had that one day, and bought into the other life they tried to sell... And if that was the case, did that mean she was at least with her dad now?
Kaito had spent most of breakfast thinking about it, and he was still feeling glum when the nurse led him to the arts and crafts room afterwards. He needed to cheer up—to distract himself with something. Maybe he could make some more makeshift props for tricks, or...
...Or maybe some energetic company. The long-haired girl that was currently raiding the supply cupboards seemed like an enthusiastic choice, plus she looked to be about his own age. Putting on a grin, he came up alongside her, peering into the cabinets. "Looking for something specific?"

"I... guess?" he said as she started moving towards one of the tables. He did understand the sentiment of needing certain equipment for proper dramatics, even if he wasn't sure what she meant by the rest. Kaito took a moment to grab some tissue paper and pipe cleaners from the cabinets for himself before joining her at the table the girl was depositing her stash upon.
He was tempted to ask for some clarification right off the bat, but then she introduced herself and held out a hand towards him. He paused for a beat, setting his materials down, and then shook her hand. "Kuroba Kaito," he said. "And I've been here for a while."
Kaito pulled a chair up to the table. "Just how new are you?"

She plunked down in a chair next to him and set into the cardboard with a pair of ridiculously annoyingly blunt scissors.

"Was 'the guy at breakfast' trying to tell you about what goes on around here?" Kaito asked casually, setting to work on a sheet of tissue paper, folding and twisting it to get a flower-like shape. "Because that doesn't make much sense until you have no other choice but to believe it."

"I've heard about some people around here not being human, but I'm not sure if I believe it, myself; they all look pretty human to me," Kaito continued, deciding to clear things up a bit first; he could hear about the Yatagarasu afterwards. "But the monsters are definitely real. You never see them during the day, but everything changes at night. The door to your room will unlock, the nurses will be nowhere in sight, and it seems like no matter where you go, you'll wake up in your room again come morning."
Ah, there it went. Satisfied with that part of the flower, he went to work on the other side.

She listened to his explanation, closely, and her grin faded into a thoughtful frown. "That sounds... weird," she mused. Also unlikely, and totally irritating if true. She picked up the cardboard again, snipping at it some more.
no subject
Kaito stared at her.
It was... a noble-sounding endeavor, to be sure. He could easily understand what she was after—he himself spent his nights pursuing a similar goal, though his had a more specific target for the endgame—but just sounding good wasn't enough. She had actually come right out and told him that she was a thief, without a moment's hesitation. With that little caution, he almost had to wonder if 'the Great Thief' bit was supposed to be a metaphor.
He blinked, and then matched her grin with one of his own, resuming his work on the paper flower. "Admirable... and not a bad speech, either," he said. "But you may want to be careful who you tell it to, Ms. Great Thief... I know a couple of detectives here who may not take kindly to thieves, even if they are bringers of justice." Or maybe that grudge was reserved only for Kaitou Kid, and Kay would get along splendidly with Kudou and Hattori. At this point, he really couldn't be sure.
Do you wanna backthread? :3
I'd love to! \o/
Then again, Kay had said she'd just started. Kaitou Kid, on the other hand, had already gained an impressive reputation to live up to by the time Kaito had first donned the costume to take his father's place.
"As long as they don't take you seriously, that's great," he continued, his tone light. "I'd just hate for them to decide to arrest you all of a sudden when you were just trying to help them out."
He reached for one of the pipe cleaners he'd grabbed, and then twisted it around the bottom of the flower for a stem.
"Oh, right... one other thing. The nurses have been calling you by the wrong name, haven't they?"
awesome <3
She snagged a pipe cleaner, too, and carefully attached it to the back of her cardboard pin, then attached the pin to her collar. There, now she felt a little more like the Yatagarasu! (She still needed her gloves and scarf and hair done up tall, but the pin was a good place to start.) "Yeah, they have been. I don't even know any Alices, I don't think."
Re: awesome <3
Then again, he didn't make a habit of telling people he'd just met about what he did.
He finished with the paper flower and tucked it away before reaching for a new sheet of paper to start anew. "They're going to try to make you think you are Alice," he explained. "Everyone here gets called by a name that isn't theirs and told that their life was made up; they've even brainwashed us some of us into believing it. They'll tell you that you're not the Yatagarasu and that the people you know aren't the people you know, like that Detective Gumshoe and—"
Wait.
"Did you say 'Edgeworth' earlier?" Kaito asked. "Miles Edgeworth?"
