Day 51: Breakfast
Yuffie Kisaragi, indomitable bouncing ball of sunshine and unfathomable ebullience, was tired. It'd been a long night full of gibberish and getting nowhere fast.
"Can't I—"
Plucky, who had been busily loading a plate full of French toast and bacon, tittered. "I'm afraid not, Hanna, darling. A chat over a nice, hearty breakfast would do you a world of good, don't you think?"
"Aaaaactually—"
"Come on, let's find you a seat. Plenty to choose from this morning!"
For a long moment, Yuffie seriously considered doing something—anything—to act out. Punch her nurse, rub jam in an orderly's face, climb a wall and hang off the ceiling, jump on a table and parody Loveless… A ruckus like that would definitely jolt her back into gear, right? Sedation aside. And it'd turn Plucky's good day right on its head, which was always a bonus worth shooting for.
But, by the time she'd reached a decision—and it was an epic decision, a really awesome one; everybody'd appreciate the genius, she was sure—she was already alone. Her breakfast tray had been set down neatly by the nurse, who had left with an infuriatingly winsome smile.
"Wow," Yuffie muttered. Shaking her head, she picked a chair at random and threw herself into it. She kicked back, one arm slung across her eyes, to wait. For what, she wasn't totally sure. Some moron to decide that she looked like good company? That was how it usually went.

Twilight Town had never been so quiet. There had always been a sort of silence at the top of the clock tower, but it was a silence still graced with chirping and the sound of the wind curling around the golden structure, not to mention the clock itself, ticking away behind them and vibrating under their fingers.
"You know, she's changed," Axel said out of the blue, cutting through the utter silence. He dropped his blue popsicle between his knees, his feet still next to Roxas' swinging legs. He smiled after the words, but Roxas thought it didn't seem like he was happy. Not that Axel could be happy, but... sometimes they came close. When they relaxed, when they did something like eating ice cream on the top of a clock tower together... they came close to happiness.
Roxas didn't answer immediately, instead taking a bite of the cold treat, savoring the bitter and sweet taste. "Who?"
The blond swore the sound of waves accompanied his best friend's voice when he said, "Well..." Axel trailed off, never picking up the thought.
"You okay?"
The redhead turned to him at the question. "Roxas, we should go - just the two of us!"
"Huh?" Now Roxas knew something was wrong - running was not something Axel did. He'd never run away from his problems. He might have hid them, but he never ran. Anyway, Axel wasn't the one who had gone... it'd just been him. Number XIII.
Maybe recognizing the weirdness had been enough to wake him up, because that's what he did - woke up from his dream. He was still surrounded by white, lit up in electric light, still on a bed that was uncomfortable as the one he'd had at HQ. He felt well-rested instead of fatigued, and he got out of the bed with renewed vigor. Had he slept the whole day away? The whole night? Axel hadn't come to his room, unless... it had been night and he'd gone into the same kind of coma Axel had been in that one time. He'd never hear the end of that. Zombie this and bedhead that...
"Rise and shine!" his nurse announced with her entrance into his room, rushing him into getting dressed for breakfast. "I hope you had a nice rest last night. You look much better today, Keanu!"
"I feel better, actually." He squished his toes into the fuzz of his slippers, rubbing his eyes against the light as he followed her into the hallway. The cafeteria smelled as good as ever, sweet smells soaking into the air of the room. The woman who led him everywhere seemed to be nice enough, so he took her recommendations of french toast and syrup with him on a tray. Maybe he could find Axel and tell him about that dream? Because that was what the Nobody was sure it'd been - not a memory of Sora's, because the brunet hadn't been in it, and it certainly had never happened.
Could Nobodies dream things that weren't memories?
She'd left him with his food tray alone, so he took a seat across from a girl who didn't look much shorter than him. Okay, what had Jim said? Accept that he was going to screw up. Easy.
... maybe if he didn't ask any questions, he wouldn't screw up that bad. But he probably would anyway, since women were incomprehensible.
"Um." Good start. "I hope you don't mind if I sit here."

Haku looked up at the young man and smiled politely, gesturing to the seat across from him. "Go right ahead. I'm not expecting anyone this morning." The face was familiar, but there wasn't a name to go along with it. So, he wasn't new, but Haku had yet to meet him.
"I'm Haku." It cost him nothing to be somewhat social, right?

"M'Roxas," he said, stuffing a fork full of french toast into his mouth. Whatever it was, it was good; the nurse had been right about the syrup making it even better. And whatever that white powder was? It was just as good. It was really sweet altogether, but still had a taste like bread. That must've been the toast part. "Have you ever eaten this stuff? It's really good. I dunno what french is, but it tastes awesome."
html? What's that? *facepalm*

This girl seemed that way, too. First impressions and all. Maybe Jim had just had bad luck with girls. Really, really bad luck. He'd seemed kind of like... a fatalist.
Whatever that was.
"I like sweet. They should have a lot more sweet stuff. I think this syrup could improve basically anything."

Even if the guileless behavior was an act, it was nice to talk to someone that wasn't angry or upset or just plain insane. It actually worked to calm Haku down considerably and he was grateful for that.
