Night 50: Main Hallway, 1-Center

[From here]

Unlike the western section, the central portion of this hallway was completely deserted. On any other night, von Karma would have used this to his advantage to arrive at one of the upstairs locations before anyone else did. The Janitor's Closet, for one, contained a large cache of metal that he could use to compensate Mr. Geeste for the work he would do for him three nights later.

But for now, von Karma merely had to go as far as the very first doorway to his right, which led straight into Waiting Room 1. This was far more important -- though less pleasant -- than his prospective metal scavenger hunt. Besides, by the time he had replied to Mr. Geeste's notice, Ms. Taura had already accepted an assignment from that blasted History Club. He would simply have to try to contact her tomorrow morning as soon as possible before she could accept another one.

Shaking his head, von Karma turned the door knob, expecting to have to jimmy it open, but instead discovering that the door wasn't locked after all.

"It's usually what I carry around in Tartarus with me. Okay, maybe I tend to go for the European stle two-handed swords, but I do know how to use this," Junpei replied. "I am taking lessons too."

Evangeline gave him a dubious look. "So he isn't just teaching you basics?"

The person he was learning from was extremely good, it was true, and if he really used a blade alongside that incarnated spirit she'd seen he would have to be rather skilled with it for it to make even a small difference.

"Nope. Don't need those. He's teaching me control."

Junpei was the beatstick of SEES, so he had to use his sword more than his Persona. He wasn't like Yukari who could just use hers over and over again; he just didn't have that much psychic spirit. He just had the stamina to hold his own, even when it became painful to use Trismegistus.

"Control is pretty basic, Junpei." Evangeline was arguing mostly out of habit at this point; she was slowly starting to admit to herself that he might have some basic competence and qualification for this whole nightshift business, albeit on a level far below hers. To be sure, foolishness and power were not exclusive. One had only to look at her own peers to see that.

Or Asuna.

Junpei shot Evangeline a withering glare. "Not that kind of control, babe. But the finer type."

He really should be proud of what he was about to tell the little vampire, but he was, in a way, proud of it. "You really want an idea, Eva-chan? When we sparred, not just technique but sparring, I held my own and even pressed enough that Okita-sensei kinda... slipped into Godmod Mode and tried to skewer me."

"Hn." That was more than she'd expected. "Not bad, I suppose." If he hadn't just been going easy on him, of course; Eva was of the opinion that lessons on combat should be hard things, but there wasn't much of a point if you never let the student actually do anything.

She did not think Souji was the type to 'go easy' in any sense less strict than she did, though.

"And you've fought against proper demons in that Dark Hour? I wonder how you would do against Setsuna were she here..." Evangeline ventured idly.

"...she some kind of demon?"

The chick probably was if Evangeline thought highly of her. Which is exactly what Junpei concluded since this was the first time the vampire had mentioned her and there was no sarcasm, snide comment or condescension when her name was mentioned.

[identity profile] bullygeneraleva.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Half-tengu. But not like you mean. The worst you could say about her is that she's a hard person, and lately she's not even that. She probably has more in common with you than me now." Evangeline looked vaguely annoyed. "Not nearly as fun to watch as she used to be."

[identity profile] whos-da-man.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh. Is she cute?"

Junpei opened the Sun Room door and gestured for Evangeline to proceed. "Ladies first."

[identity profile] bullygeneraleva.livejournal.com 2010-08-08 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
"When she's struggling." Evangeline grinned. Well, she thought that about most of the people she cared enough about to think about at all. "I'd like her better if she showed her true appearance, but like I said she's not like me; she wants to get along with the ordinary humans so she dyes her hair and hides her wings. Looks very traditional, if you're into that sort of thing."

She laughed, then paused. She hadn't really answered the question... not that she felt especially obliged to, but Setsuna was one of her favorites and a topic of conversation she didn't especially mind.

"Yes, she's cute. Too bad for you she isn't here, Junpei. Not that you'd stand much of a chance with her."

"And servants second," was her retort to his courtesy. She loved shows of respect, but a lady she was definitely not.
