Night 50: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]

It looked like the hallway opened up over here. Guess he couldn't expect to just run around and follow a linear corridor forever, but now he had to figure out which way he wanted to go. Normally, he'd just run down whatever hallway he happened to lay eye on first, but again, he was running a liiittle blind here.

He still wasn't seeing any people anywhere. Maybe everyone was hiding. If everyone knew the staff turned into monsters and tried to eat them, then it'd make sense that they'd try to keep low. Thankfully, he'd be taking care of whatever was wandering around this place, so they wouldn't have to stay hiding for long. Once that was done, they could blast their way out of there and he could find his way back to the others. Couldn't keep everyone waiting on account of him, right?

[running across Rita, The Trickster, and hopefully, a freaking flashlight]

"...not that there's any sense in any of this," Evangeline finished derisively as she emerged into the main hall. At least Junpei had managed to be mere recipient instead of target for her little lecture this time.

"Hey, hey! I get -- C's." Okay so that wasn't as impressive as it sounded in his head. He was used to his friends being under the impression that he failed most of his classes or just barely passed. In that case, a C was an impressive grade for him. Mostly he had such bad grades because he didn't study or do homework, not because he was stupid.

Junpei listened to Evangeline's explanation, really glad she was using Japanese cause that he probably wouldn't have been able to follow. "So... it's just magic? Huh. Simple explanation." He could have guessed that much himself. "Maybe whatever magic they use is just making us use our own minds to synch up the lips since we kinda naturally know and reject those really bad dubs."

[identity profile] bullygeneraleva.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not all magic is the same, Junpei." Evangeline supposed she shouldn't have expected any more from him... she really wished the boy was here, sometimes. Though his grasp of theory was excellent; she would not have needed to give him this kind of broad overview in the first place.

Another shrug. "It's possible. Cognizance disruption doesn't work well on someone who's focusing, though. They'll be actively manipulating perception, if it's not outright reality distortion."

[identity profile] whos-da-man.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course it's not. Otherwise there'd be more than a handful of people that had Personas forced onto them instead of naturally developed," the teen replied, not realizing he'd never mentioned that tidbit about forced Personas to Evangeline.

"But, as a broad catch-all explanation, it is pretty simple. People used to call all sorts of things magic before they understood the whole science behind it. Hell, this all could be the work of some kind of really damn advanced technology that we can't remotely understand... which still makes it magic."

[identity profile] bullygeneraleva.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"If you use the word like that it's not an explanation, it's just a name you made up for so you'll feel like it has some sort of place in your world and you can stop thinking about it." Evangeline resumed lecturing. "And magic is something I understand. The greatest dark mage, remember?"

But no, she hadn't missed the new information he'd let slip. "Is that how you ended up with yours, hm?"

She leered at him, hoping the topic would set him off-balance.

[identity profile] whos-da-man.livejournal.com 2010-07-26 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, yes, greatest dark mage. I remember. Terrifies me to my very core," Junpei replied flippantly. It wasn't the dark mage that terrified him so much but the vampire part did.

His eyes flickered over with her question. "No. I'm all natural. I just... know someone who had it... yeah." He was a bit uncomfortable, but not like Evangeline was expecting. He seemed... sad almost.

[identity profile] bullygeneraleva.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
The flippancy was annoying, but she'd already threatened to kill him once tonight. It was probably enough.

Besides, he was showing a more interesting vulnerability than simple fear. "That girl, right? What was her name?"

Whether Eva had genuinely forgotten or was trying to make him drag up memories by association for some purpose or another was anyone's guess.

[identity profile] whos-da-man.livejournal.com 2010-07-28 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Chidori."

Junpei said her name softly, fondly, sadly as he did every time he spoke of his dead girlfriend. He'd managed to not deal with her loss and the loss of everyone else when Landel had sent them away. The others he knew were probably back home - hopefully back home - but Chidori... She was dead.

He rubbed his chest idly, almost wishing there was a scar even if he could still feel her inside him. He then decided to change the subject.

"Why do you think that douchebag decided to make the translator thing not work? Other than to irritate us?"

[identity profile] bullygeneraleva.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Evangeline could actually bring herself to like that Junpei; the wistful, worldly one that knew loss and fought alone and without the prospect of reward. Unfortunately it was trapped under an extremely annoying teenager and could only, it seemed, emerge for a few seconds at a time.

She sighed.

"How would i know? I'm evil, not insane. He's showing his hand much too early. If I was him I'd save changing the established rules of the game for a time when we're a real threat to him. As it is people will know to plan for this in the future."

Maybe. Some of the patients here were pretty stupid.

[identity profile] whos-da-man.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think it's us he sees as a threat." Junpei took his hat off, rubbed the top of his head and put it back on. "That radio dude. Or something. Maybe."

He then shrugged. "And I, uh, just thought maybe there was some kind of diabolical reasoning that only the really evil understood." As Junpei, clearly, wasn't evil and would not understand.

[identity profile] bullygeneraleva.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
"If the radio was a problem he could just jam it. Unless you think he's sitting up there with a giant board of unlabeled switches and knows as much as any of us about what he's doing. That's what my evil genius intuition is telling me, Junpei. Whatever powers he has he doesn't have close to full control of them, he's just making everything up as he goes. I'm surprised he hasn't been eaten by his own monsters yet."

Speaking of which... she looked back at the sword she'd almost nicked him with earlier. "Do you know how to use that thing?"

[identity profile] whos-da-man.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe he can't jam it cause that's the simple solution." Junpei shrugged. "I'm just glad you speak Japanese."

He then gave Evangeline a bit of a glare. "Duh. Of course, I can."
