Night 50: Main Hallway, 1-West
[from here]
It looked like the hallway opened up over here. Guess he couldn't expect to just run around and follow a linear corridor forever, but now he had to figure out which way he wanted to go. Normally, he'd just run down whatever hallway he happened to lay eye on first, but again, he was running a liiittle blind here.
He still wasn't seeing any people anywhere. Maybe everyone was hiding. If everyone knew the staff turned into monsters and tried to eat them, then it'd make sense that they'd try to keep low. Thankfully, he'd be taking care of whatever was wandering around this place, so they wouldn't have to stay hiding for long. Once that was done, they could blast their way out of there and he could find his way back to the others. Couldn't keep everyone waiting on account of him, right?
[running across Rita, The Trickster, and hopefully, a freaking flashlight]

Whoever was responsible, they obviously had more than just a clue of what they were doing. The Founder's Council? No way. John Gilbert, Jr. Jr. Jr. ad nausem aside, the rest of the council...well, hell, Damon had worked with these people. The only advantage they'd had at first was that they'd known something Damon hadn't. Beyond that, they were mostly comprised of soccer moms and experts in the field of fundraisers. The only one who'd remotely resembled a threat had been the history teacher, and by "remotely", Damon meant possibly might go so far as to break into my house to stab me. Unlike the others.
"Whoa, hey." Elena looked like she was about ready to rip her pendant in half or cut herself trying. Damon caught her hands. "Just take it easy. Here—" He pried it open, careful even though it was no mystery by now that it would be empty. She wasn't the only one who couldn't smell it. It wasn't normally something he noticed—would've defeated the purpose of it if he could tell from a mile away—but now that she mentioned it...still, instinct said not to dump the only poisonous substance to vampires on himself.
The locket laid open in his palm. Empty. Dammit, what the hell was going on?
Either way, this was so monumentally not good. Nor very reversible. Removing memories was one thing, getting someone to remember it again was another. It couldn't be done. Well, no, scratch that. It could. He could plant new memories of the old ones, for instance, but it wouldn't be the same. Anyway, he highly doubted Elena wanted him messing around in her head like that. The only cure was if she made the transformation into a vampire, but that was completely out of the hemisphere of potential options.
He snapped the locket shut. "Look, we'll figure this out, okay? But right now, we need to keep moving before you lose more than your memories." He tugged the flashlight from under her arm and held it out towards her, one eyebrow cocked as he waited for her to take it.
If she wasn't up for going to the second floor, he supposed a turn down the other direction was as good an alternative as any. At this point, even he would admit he had no idea what he was doing.
But not out loud.

"Right. Okay, yeah."
She took another second to convince herself that it really was okay, then turned back to the staircase. "Maybe we should just head up." Elena peeked back at Damon to make sure they were on the same page before starting up the stairs, trying to gain her focus back as she did so. She kept the flashlight angled up so they could see a few steps ahead of themselves, but the dark was pretty unnerving.
